I Obtained Sword God Level Talent

chapter 70

69 – 069. Ismael Subjugation (7)

The church we visited was unusually packed.

“Oh my! You’ve returned!”

The female priest we’d met in the village smiled brightly as she approached me. In her hands, she held a basket filled with bandages, holy water, and potions.

“You were in the middle of treating the people we brought from the village?”

“Yes! Fortunately, no one was critically injured.”

The young female priest replied with a clear smile. Silently nodding, I looked towards the front of the church.

Under makeshift tents, the injured lay with grim expressions. Their faces were filled with deep despair.

“By the way, the reason you came to the church is, of course, because of ‘that,’ isn’t it?”

“…’That’?”

‘That.’ I tilted my head, thrown off by the sudden word.

“Ah, ah! Could it be… you didn’t come because of ‘that’?!?”

“No. I don’t understand what you’re talking about at all.”

“Hmm! Just a moment?”

With that, the priestess vanished somewhere, leaving me to wait. After a brief pause, she returned with an elderly priest.

“Welcome. I am Bishop Dubong.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.”

The priest, who introduced himself as Dubong, was an old man who looked to be well over sixty. Perhaps because he was a priest of Aldehain, the god of war, he boasted a large build that belied his age.

“First, why don’t you come inside?”

“……Very well.”

And so, the three of us followed Dubong inside the church.

The Church of Aldehain, situated in a border city, was quite large. Unlike the opulent stained-glass windows and majestic atmosphere of the papal chapel, this place had a distinct, simple feel.

“First of all, welcome to the Church of Aldehain. And I have something I’d like to propose.”

“A proposal? What might that be?”

“Hmm. It seems it will be quite a heavy topic….”

Muttering to himself, Bishop Dubong looked at the two people behind me.

Geomma and Geum Harin were looking around the church with curious expressions. They looked like tourists rather than people on a mission.

“If the Bishop doesn’t mind, I think it would be good for those two to hear as well.”

“Hoo. I certainly don’t mind.”

Dubong then led us to a room tucked away in a corner of the chapel. It resembled a reception room. This place, too, was neat and tidy, bearing the hallmarks of the Aldehain Church.

“Please wait a moment. I’ll bring some tea.”

*Squeak!*

With those words, the Bishop left the reception room.

It was then, as Geum Harin sat on the sofa, glancing around the room, that she spoke first.

“It’s my first time in a church. It certainly has the distinct feel of the Western Continent.”

“Right. The Western Continent is a place inseparable from faith, after all.”

“Heh! Aren’t you a central figure in the faith? And yet, you seem surprisingly indifferent.”

Geomma chuckled as he listened to the conversation between me and Geum Harin. I nodded immediately. His words were true.

“Well, I didn’t intend to hide it. Unlike the rumors about me being a Holy Grail Knight or the birth of a legend… in reality, I don’t have much interest in churches or faith.”

“That’s unique. With the proof of God overflowing all around, can you explain why?”

“……Well, it’s nothing much. Just that it’s not really related to the path I’m taking.”

Whether the Sword Master was convinced by my short explanation or not, he gave a heavy nod.

‘Clearing the <Silver Ring> route. The fact that it’s unrelated to “God” is true, after all.’

I muttered inwardly.

God exists. That was common sense in this world.

But…

The important thing is, whether that “God” truly watches over humanity. And, further, watches over me, is another matter entirely.

Right now, wasn’t the God of War, Aldehain, advising us to stay away from Keres, the Goddess of Life and Death?

Screeeak!

“Sorry for the wait.”

It was about five minutes later that Bishop Dubong appeared.

He was carrying four cups of steaming tea on a silver tray, the aroma remarkably unique.

“Hmm?”

“Hah! This is…?”

As soon as the tea was placed on the table, the Sword Master and Geum Harin immediately reacted.

The tea Bishop Dubong had brought was clearly from the Eastern Continent. To put it simply… yes, it smelled similar to green tea.

“It seemed you two are from the Eastern Continent, so I prepared this specially.”

“Thank you. You’re more considerate than I thought.”

The Sword Master smiled faintly, and Geum Harin, with a look of interest, immediately took a sip.

“……”

Meanwhile, I wordlessly stared at my teacup.

It wasn’t that I felt any ill intentions from the bishop.

‘Something’s making me uneasy, though.’

My purpose in coming here was simple.

It wasn’t because of “that thing” the priests had mentioned, nor was it to support the survivor I brought. It was simply to receive Aldehain’s gift. That was it.

“Don’t you like tea?”

Bishop Dubong’s smile, etched with wrinkles, turned towards me. Without a word, I shook my head and looked directly at him.

“It’s not that I dislike it. It’s just… you seem to have something to say, Bishop.”

“……Hoo!”

A deep smile spread across Bishop Dubong’s lips. The Sword Master and Geum Harin, who had been silently sipping their tea, also cast curious glances.

“That’s right. As expected, a Holy Knight’s eyes cannot be deceived, it seems.”

Bishop Dubong chuckled, continuing his words.

“Were you aware? This place, the Aldehain Church in this border city, has a special legend.”

“…A legend?”

I couldn’t help but wear a bewildered expression.

‘An easter egg? Or is it just a hidden event?’

This was the world of <Silver Ring>, teeming with hidden rooms, myths, and such. Naturally, a strange curiosity arose within me.

“Indeed. The story dates back to a distant past… to a time when Hell and Heaven were at war.”

“……”

“I don’t know if you knew, but this place was the site of a fierce battle during that war. And by chance, the weapon used by that being sleeps within this very church.”

That being?

Probably, I guessed he was referring to Aldehain.

‘No way. Is there really a weapon used by a god here?’

How could I not be surprised?

A weapon used by a god is, by itself, a powerful symbol of divinity. Simply put, like the priests who wield all sorts of miracles.

Merely possessing and wielding such a weapon meant you could become an existence with limitless potential.

“Wait. Then… is the ‘that’ the priests mentioned…?”

“Heh! Your perception is truly remarkable. You’re right! ‘That’ refers to… the choosing of the ‘Holy Sword’ that slumbers in this church.”

‘A Holy Sword…!!!’

I felt goosebumps prickling all over my body. A Holy Sword, a Holy Sword. There was only one named “Holy Sword” that I knew.

[ Holy Sword – Excalibur ]

That weapon, beyond any standard, was a symbol of an “end-game item” itself.

Its appearance aside, the additional options were simply insane.

But…

‘Does this mean there’s another Holy Sword besides Excalibur?’

I, who had primarily played with sword-type weapons, naturally knew about the legends surrounding the Holy Swords.

‘Roughly, it was set as a weapon that the Primordial God forged by drawing out his ‘Justice’ to eradicate evil.’

Does this mean there are multiple Primordial Gods and ‘Justice’ as well?

“…I can’t believe it.”

I conveyed my confused and honest feelings to Bishop Dubong.

If that kind of setting existed, then why were others unaware of it? I mean, shouldn’t it be something that, if not the player, at least the people of this world should know?

“I understand. A legend is, well, a legend. Unless you see the reality of it with your own eyes, it’s just a story, a baseless rumor.”

Again, Bishop Dubong heavily nodded his head and rose from his seat.

He walked with heavy steps towards the reception room window, and with a *click-clack* he threw open the tightly shut window.

“Do you see it?”

An aged smile turned towards me.

“……?”

Following him, I rose from my seat, bewildered.

See what?

“Look out there.”

Following him to the window, I looked out at the world. Thanks to the Aldehein Church being situated on high ground within the city, quite a lot of scenery was captured in my vision.

An endless expanse of green barrier emitted an ominous aura.

Below it, the border city was filled with despair.

It almost looked like a lone ice floe adrift in a vast ocean.

‘…Huh?’

That’s when a particularly strange scene caught my eye.

It was a ‘sword’.

The majesty of the city’s walls. The nature of the nearby forest. The wildly flowing river.

They were all connected, forming a single shape.

“A sword…”

Frowning, I muttered to myself, dazed. And again, saying it aloud made me feel absurd.

Yes, the shape was a sword. But as a sword shape, it was ridiculously huge. The entire city… no, even beyond that, all of the surrounding environment completed the form of the sword.

“Heh, heh heh! Uhehehehehehe!”

“……Bishop Dubong?”

At my muttered words, Bishop Dubong suddenly burst into inappropriate laughter.

“Do you see it! The sword? Do you see the shape of the sword…!!”

“Yeah, well. I see it… is there a problem?”

“A problem, no! This is a blessing. It means you are worthy of becoming the owner of that sword! Hundreds of years since the church was founded. No one but you has ever realized the shape of the weapon! Finally, the weapon of the gods can dance in your hands!”

‘What is he even talking about.’

Seriously… how could you wield ‘that’ which is as massive as a decent mountain peak. Even though the city, the forest, the river all *look* like a sword… it’s not a real sword, is it?

‘Grasp it.’

*Flitch!*

It was right at that moment.

‘Grasp it.’

Someone’s voice resonated in my ears, no. In my head.

‘Grasp it.’

It was similar to when I conversed with the ‘gods’.

But the problem was, the owner of this voice wasn’t Keres, nor Aldehain.

‘What the hell is this?’

It was while I was in a state of panic.

DANGDANGDANGDANG────!!!

From outside the church, an insane bell started ringing. The bell’s sound, reverberating through the whole city, had a way of making people’s hearts plummet.

“Attack! We’re under attack!”

“Monsters, monsters are coming──!!”

DU-DU-DU-DU-DU……!!

At the same time, the ground, the air. Vibrated immensely.

[ Devour them all. ]

Ismael, a demon species and fallen angel, the devourer.

His voice shook the entire city.
