CHAPTER : 49
Episode 49.
Iros walked over, expressionless, and grabbed the woman by the throat, her body crumpled and misshapen against the cage.
“Grey hair. Are you the maid who was accusing the saint with her tongue earlier?”
“My, my, you came in here buried in the darkness, and no mere mortal could have detected my presence. Quite a sight, eh?”
Moringa, who swept a grotesquely crooked arm through her shaggy hair, asked, her red tongue flicking across her seductive lips.
“Are you this way by any chance?”
With a thud, Iros slammed Moringa to the floor, as if the question wasn’t worth answering.
Despite the force of the blow, which cracked the stone floor like a spider’s web, Moringa opened his mouth again, seemingly unscathed.
“Maybe I’m not as strong as I thought I was… Ouch!”
“Shut up, you’re waking the saint.”
Moringa looked at Iros in disbelief. If he listened carefully, he could almost hear a slight stirring.
Moringa immediately grabbed Iros’s hand in a crushing grip and pulled it away from his mouth.
“Is it a quarter and not a half, or does he not know he is this way yet?”
“…….”
Iros glared at her, his expression hardening at Moringa’s meaningless words.
“By your silence, I assume you know you’re a half-man-half-demon.”
“…….”
“Halfway scum, neither human nor demon. That’s what we are.”
“Shut up.”
Iros’s eyes flickered.
“I’m human, never have been, never will be.”
“Ho-ho, that can’t be right. I thought you were so confident with your sword that you didn’t use your holy power as a Guardian. You don’t have holy power?”
Her words were full of conviction, and Iros silently used his Holy Power.
Moringa shrank back from the small but bright glow of holy power in his hand and muttered.
“You’re using holy power? Real holy power, not that fake stuff?”
“Okay, now get lost.”
“I’ll spare you, though. I’ll have to kill the saint, though.”
“What?”
A dark flesh erupted from Iros’s body.
Moringa chuckled in amusement.
“You’re pissed at the idea of a half-demon killing a human, a hahaha, how cute are you?”
“Was it you who poisoned the food, too, to kill the saint?”
“Yes. Originally, I was going to be kind and kill her while everyone was happy and enjoying the Last Supper, but suddenly, the saint decided to eat the newly cooked food.”
Moringa snorted, turning into a black mist and slipping out of Iros’s grasp.
“That’s why I hastily donned this cheap maid’s outfit and put on a good act, hoping to somehow lure the holy woman away from the crowd.”
Moringa, who had a long whip and dagger drawn, smirked.
“I’ll have to kill her so I can go home. Speaking of which, that woman behind you. Why don’t you hand her over to me, and I’ll let you live.”
“No problem. You’ll never touch the hem of her dress as long as I’m here.”
In the prison cell where Sierra slept, Iros and Moringa clashed dozens of times.
Amid the tense struggle, which never tilted in either direction, Sierra never broke.
Moringa spoke up.
“She’s not waking up, and she’s not even making any noise with you fighting next to her?”
“Which is why I should kill you quickly before she wakes up and go sing her a lullaby.”
“You’re not a guardian by any chance, are you a Pomona?”
Moringa said in disbelief, gently dodging Iros’s fist.
He caught it in his hand and ripped it in half, scattering it into shards of darkness like mist.
“Kaaak!”
Panicked, Moringa quickly reverted to her normal form and grabbed his left shoulder.
Turning her head, she saw Iros holding her torn left arm and muttering to himself.
“So this is how you do it, I see now.”
“……!”
The muttering made Moringa bite her lip in surprise and laugh.
“My, my, you disqualify yourself as a gentleman if you rip a lady’s arm off so violently, you bad boy!”
With a crack that cut through the wind, Moringa’s whip came crashing down on Iros.
“……!”
Iros grabbed the dagger in his hastily torn arm and blocked the whip.
Kagangkagang! The whip was made of iron, not leather, and sparks flew as it sliced through the dagger.
In an instant, Iros was right in front of the bed where Sierra slept.
“Ugh!”
Iros glanced back quickly to see Sierra sleeping soundly and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
“You’ve been distracted by my pretty face?”
Moringa chuckled and swung her whip vigorously. The whip snaked towards Sierra, not Iros.
“Thwack!”
Before the whip’s tines could reach Sierra, Iros stepped in front of it.
Moringa smirked and pressed a button on the handle of the whip. The smooth, hard whip snapped open, splitting like a blade.
‘You can’t stop this!
There’s no dodging it. I duck, and the sharp blades strike Sierra behind me.
“Sierra.
There’s no question about it. Eyes tightly shut, Iros gritted his teeth and crossed his arms to block the whip.
“……!”
With a blinding pain, the flesh was sliced away. The dagger was shattered in an instant.
Moringa clicked his tongue at the sight.
“What a poisonous bastard. Not a single scream.”
“Ugh. Ha, ha.”
“Don’t you think I’ll wake the dear saint, I’ll put her to sleep forever, she’ll never wake.”
As if on cue, Moringa swung the whip wildly from top to bottom.
Iros didn’t dodge this time but parried the blow with his body.
His clothes were torn and a long gash opened up.
Blood trickled down his body.
Just then, the sound of running footsteps came, and a sword flew towards him.
“Get him!”
“How did you get in here?!”
“Pfft. The crown prince?”
As Moringa stepped back, Iros, who had caught the sword, looked up and saw a head of red hair.
There stood the crown prince, breathing heavily.
“What the hell is that!”
“Shut up……. You’re waking her.”
“That’s not the point right now!”
“To me, kuluk, it’s more important.”
“You madman!”
The crown prince bellowed, yanking open the prison door. As he was about to enter, Prince Rivier chased after him and threw his sword at him.
“Brother, here’s your sword!”
“Thank you. I can run a bit if I fight with my bare hands.”
The crown prince, his eyes fearsome, drew his sword from its scabbard and approached Moringa.
“I’ve seen you perform quite well, haven’t I?”
“I didn’t expect to be spotted already. There’s no way that stupid emperor would have noticed. You’re the one who noticed.”
“It was so perfectly framed, it was so flimsy.”
“……?”
“A saint wouldn’t have left any witnesses in the first place. She’d have killed him quite naturally. So that no one would suspect her.”
The crown prince smirked and swatted Moringa’s whip away.
“Besides, the Cyanine Empire would never have a grey-haired maid in the imperial palace, as they consider grey hair to be cursed in the first place, would they?”
“I forgot about that. White-haired people are treated like germs here, and it’s offensive.”
Moringa’s red eyes flashed as she hastily dodged backward.
Chak!
Iros, who had already drawn his sword, attacked Moringa, clutching his bleeding chest.
“I thought we were kin……!”
“Bullshit. I’m not one of your kind. I’m my saint’s cute little dog. So.”
Die.
Iros attacked Moringa furiously. The Crown Prince was behind him, parrying the whip.
“Come on! Come on!”
Prince Rivier said nothing, but he pumped his fists in support.
Moringa had never been much of a fighter in the first place, and as the seconds ticked by, she found herself at a two-on-one disadvantage.
Helplessly, Iros’ whip was taken away from her, and Moringa slithered away into the darkness, the tip of the blade tightening.
Her body gradually turned to dark powder and disappeared.
“Chet.”
“Go.”
Iros slammed his blade down hard on the scattering dust.
“Cak!”
“You’re free to go. No one said I’d let you go. Die here.”
Moringa, partially back to her original form, bit her lip hard.
“I’ll take care of the rest. Come out.”
“Yes, my lord.”
“Kill it.”
“Chong!”
At the crown prince’s words, the black knights appeared from the air and plunged their swords into Moringa in unison.
But their crossed swords caught the hem of a robe, and Moringa was nowhere to be seen.
“Has he fled?”
“He’s hiding in the shadows, fleeing.”
“How do you know that?”
“…….”
Iros, evasive, turned his horse.
“I’ll follow him.”
“Take half the Knights with you. She’s dangerous.”
“I will.”
Iros followed after Moringa, his body still shaking.
Prince Rivier went to call for someone, and the Crown Prince left in the cell, sat down beside Sierra, wiping the blood from his clothes and sighing.
“Mmm. Crown Prince……?”
“You’re awake.”
“You sent us to prison, why are you here…….?”
As she was about to finish her sentence, Sierra looked around at the stench of blood that assaulted her nose.
The blood was everywhere, signs of a fight, and blood on the crown prince’s clothes.
“Did you kill Iros?!”
“Not in my imagination. I don’t know how you could come to that conclusion, but no.”
“Then?”
Sierra asked, and the crown prince paused, averting his eyes.
“Let me begin by apologizing. I know you didn’t poison it, and I know you almost did. We have a real culprit.”
“What? I mean, what the hell happened while I was asleep?”
“The maid who screamed that you were the culprit was the real culprit. The maid who testified that you poisoned her is dead.”
“…….”
When I woke up, it had all happened so fast.
“I don’t know how he got in, but he wanted to kill you.”
“Is that why you fought him, to save me?”
Sierra’s mouth dropped open in surprise. The crown prince looked down at her, then nodded silently.
“I did. I saved you.”
“…….”
Iros, who had been listening outside, clenched his fists.
