Chapter 12: Hildegard Is Guided by Instinct
Chapter 12:Hildegard Is Guided by Instinct
Hildegarde was the daughter of a warrior from the female-only tribe called the Lepite, residing in a distant foreign land in the southern part of the Ruan d’Or Empire, where Vanitas lives.
Eirgard, Hildegarde’s mother, was the strongest and most outstanding of her generation, possessing a graceful beauty as a warrior.
The Lepite tribe was constantly threatened by monsters.
They fended off nightly monster attacks using a massive fortress made from natural rock formations in the form of an inlet.
They were a group of true warriors, fighting with only the faint light of torches to guide them, never allowing the flames to die out.
One day, the Lepite tribe encountered a formidable monster they had never seen before.
This monster devoured everything, whether it was soil, rocks, or solid stones, showing a ravenous appetite. For the Lepite tribe, whose fortress was the rocky mountain, this creature was their natural enemy.
Eirgard, who was highly admired by the clan, lost her life in the fight against this monster.
The once seemingly impregnable fortress of the Lepite tribe was partly destroyed, and many warriors, especially the strongest Eirgard, perished in the fierce battle.
The loss of Eirgard brought the Lepite tribe to the depths of despair.
Hildegarde, too, shed tears openly and unreservedly at her mother’s death.
However, misfortune continued to follow.
The slave traders learned of the vulnerability of the powerful and beautiful Lepite tribe after losing their protection and started to make their move.
Several surviving warriors were captured and turned into slaves.
Among them was Hildegarde, the young warrior daughter with an exorbitant price tag.
It was Vanitas Lindblum who purchased her.
The Lepite tribe admired strength.
They believed that the weak should be protected, and in that sense, the pre-reincarnation Vanitas was weak, both in physical strength and in handling magic.
For Hildegarde, he represented someone to be protected despite his unjust demands or occasional sulking, much like a rebellious younger brother.
Sometimes she felt frustrated, but as the only male among the female-only tribe, he became a subject of protection.
Hildegarde found herself puzzled before the present Vanitas.
(“Strong yet weak? Weak yet strong?”)
The doubts and astonishment of Christina and the confusion of being petted, by Lapana did not register in her field of view.
“Do you want to fight? Fight to find out! A mock battle! A mock battle!”
Her confusion turned into curiosity.
Without waiting for Vanitas to speak, she conveyed her instinctual demand.
“Hmm? A mock battle, you say… Ah yes, I remember now, Vanitas often uses you all as targets during magic practice… Very well, it might be a good opportunity to show you how I’ve changed. Alright then, let’s have a mock battle.”
“Mock battle? Mock battle!”
In her innocent joy, she was unaware.
The Lepite tribe instinctively admired the strong.
To leave stronger offspring and survive in this ruthless world, they held a deep admiration for strength.
Hildegarde instinctively sensed an unknown strength within Vanitas’ weakness.
