Chapter 8: - Mock Battle
“You’re quite competitive, aren’t you? Just like Kyoshirou.”
“Hahaha! That so?”
My father laughed happily, looking at me.
His face was filled with confidence, the look of a parent who had been praised for their child.
“Alright, I’ll accept that challenge.”
Fuyuma-san said so and asked my father for training weapons.
“Here you go,” my father said, bringing the wooden sword we had been using earlier.
“Thank you, Kyoshirou. Well then, let’s get started right away.”
“Yes!”
“Heh, that’s a good answer.”
I received the wooden sword and faced Fuyuma-san, assuming a stance.
“Okay, here I come. But I should tell you, I’m stronger than Kyoshirou.”
Fuyuma-san lightly swung the wooden sword, and the sound of the wind cutting through the air echoed like a whistle.
“Wind, come forth.”
As he said that, a swirling wind formed around the wooden sword, wrapping around the blade.
“If we’re going to do this, I won’t hold back. I want to see just how strong Kyoshirou’s pride and joy is. Come at me from anywhere.”
“Understood.”
In that case, I won’t hold back either. If he’s going to use magic, I will too.
I gathered magic power throughout my body, increasing my physical strength.
Then,
I activated “Sozuka” Technique.
Fuyuma-san looked surprised. “To manipulate magic power and output at your age… Impressive. I can’t afford to be careless.”
“Thank you. Here I go!”
I kicked the ground with all my might.
With a resounding thud that shook the earth, I closed the distance between Fuyuma-san and me in an instant.
“Fast?! But too linear!”
There was a sharp clash of wooden swords.
My wooden sword was deflected by Fuyuma-san and was further pushed back by the swirling storm surrounding his blade.
“Not bad!”
I immediately adjusted my posture and transitioned to the next attack. This time, I swung with a horizontal strike.
But that too was easily blocked.
“Not a bad swordsmanship style, but it’s still rough!”
Fuyuma-san pushed me back forcefully, and I was sent flying backward.
As expected, his strength was formidable. In the original story, Fuyuma-san held the rank of First-Class, which meant he was stronger than my father.
And the core of his strength lay in the use of various techniques—his “Three Great Elements.”
True to its name, it allowed him to freely manipulate fire, water, and wind through his techniques.
I remembered him joining the game as a support character and how strong he was.
“Now it’s my turn.”
Fuyuma-san switched the wooden sword to his other hand and extended his free hand forward.
“Flame Spear.”
He muttered softly, and a magic circle-like formation of red flames appeared in front of his palm, forming a blazing crimson spear that was aimed right at me.
“Whoa!”
I hastily dodged, but it narrowly grazed my cheek.
“I’m not done yet!”
Without delay, another attack followed.
“Water Blade!” “Water Arrow!”
This time, two different techniques were unleashed.
“Water Blade” sent forth water slashes, while “Water Arrow” fired sharp water projectiles.
All of them were coming at me.
“Damn it!”
I didn’t have the luxury to deal with each one separately. I leaped backward.
“Haha, just evading won’t lead to victory!”
“I know!”
…Damn it, what should I do?
I couldn’t keep avoiding like this. I needed to come up with a strategy.
Facing Fuyuma-san’s versatile techniques one after another, I found myself in a purely defensive stance.
“If you’re getting frustrated with this, maybe you’re not good enough to reach my daughter? Well, my daughter is the strongest and cutest, so it can’t be helped.”
Seeing me in such a state, Fuyuma-san wore a smug grin.
…………………….
It irritated me.
I had enough of this.
He was provoking me like a child!
“Haha, that’s a good expression.”
I decided not to care anymore.
“I’m coming.”
I concentrated magic power even more intensely than before.
Then, I forcefully increased the output of “Sozuka”.
“I’m going all out.”
In an instant, I sprinted forward, leaving behind a trail of lightning that surrounded my entire body.
Fuyuma-san’s eyes widened.
“You still have more in you?!”
In a split second, he deployed “Flame Spear” and shot it at me.
I narrowly dodged it and accelerated even further, slipping into Fuyuma-san’s guard and swinging my wooden sword.
An indistinct high-pitched sound echoed repeatedly.
“Haha, indeed, this is… comparable.”
Fuyuma-san’s wooden sword went flying through the air.
The smile on his face, like he had found a new toy, oddly stayed etched in my mind.
