Chapter 12: chapter 12: Not all who wander are lost (Part 1)
Unlike the brutal and ferocious Elbaf warriors, Haguar D. Saul was truly a pacifist. Compared to other giants who were fanatically devoted to battle, Saul excelled in rational thinking.
Therefore, when he was assigned a top-secret mission by Admiral Sengoku to participate in the Buster Call as a Vice Admiral, he hesitated.
He couldn't understand why the government repeatedly ordered the Navy to arrest the ships conducting historical research. Saul flatly refused to carry out this mission and loudly questioned his superior:
"They're just scholars! Why go this far? If their research is truly so dangerous, couldn't the government simply supervise them? It's us who are doing the killing! Give me a reason why they deserve to die!!"
Images of archeological ships being hunted down and sunk flashed through the orange-haired giant's mind—defenseless vessels, unarmed scholars.
Saul was convinced that such cold-blooded extermination orders could never represent true justice!
"Are you doubting the government?! Follow the orders!" Admiral Sengoku retorted sharply.
Unwilling to comply, Saul went to the prison cell where Olvia was being held. He needed to hear the scholars' exact intentions from this woman. Perhaps then he could persuade Admiral Sengoku to revoke the military operation.
However, after talking with her, Saul realized why the government had resolutely ordered the Navy to carry out this operation.
He understood there was no way to convince Sengoku anymore. The only way to stop the Buster Call was to introduce an external disruption.
"Emergency! Vice Admiral Saul has escaped from the prison with the criminal!"
"He knows the plans for this operation. Capture Saul and Olvia! Dead or alive!" Sengoku gritted his teeth, making his decision.
"The pursuers are coming!" Olvia, her head wrapped in bandages, looked back at the sea.
Saul stood fearlessly. "Leave them to me! You hurry back to your homeland and warn them, Olvia!"
Olvia took a deep look at the giant with the orange beard covering his chin and hesitated. "Saul… you won't be able to remain a Marine anymore!"
Saul looked down at the white-haired woman. "From a legal perspective, this operation is far too brutal. I will begin my own pursuit of justice."
As he watched Olvia row away in a small boat, Saul was fully aware of the consequences of his actions today.
Being stripped of all military ranks and expelled from the Navy would be the least of it.
With a heavy sigh, he muttered, "But I don't regret it!"
"But I don't regret it!!" The ragged giant sprinted toward the direction of the evacuation ship. He could already see its silhouette—it was Olvia and Robin! Of course, he also saw several figures standing not far from the evacuation ship.
Looking at his former colleagues and close friends, now forced to face them as enemies, Saul asked himself in his heart: "Do I regret it?"
He knew full well the incredible strength of his friend Kuzan, and he was also aware of Sakazuki's power, who was known as one of the "monster vice admirals" alongside Borsalino.
Yet, for the sake of justice, even if countless enemies stood in his way, he would press forward without hesitation. Laughing heartily, he quickened his pace, repeating the words in his heart:
"Da-hahaha! But I don't regret it!!!"
On a nearby warship, Saul's massive figure could no longer stay hidden. "It's the escaped Vice Admiral Saul!!" The lookout on the warship recognized the giant.
A rear admiral under Kuzan's command decisively gave the order: "Fire on former Vice Admiral Saul!! Don't let him approach the evacuation ship! In the name of justice!!"
"Boom!" "Boom!" "Boom!" A barrage of cannon fire cut off Saul's path to the evacuation ship.
One precise shot directly struck Saul's chest. However, a giant's sturdy physique was no joke. His chest was merely scorched black with some minor scrapes.
"It seems I won't be able to get past without dealing with you first! Don't get in my way!!" Saul turned and charged toward the warship.
"That's… Saul?!" Hearing the intense explosions not far away, Kuzan furrowed his brows.
Beside him, Sakazuki spoke in a cold tone: "Well, this saves us the trouble, doesn't it, Saul!"
"Saul!! Why is he on this island?!" Olvia thought to herself in shock.
Sakazuki glanced at the frowning Kuzan and said indifferently, "You, or me?"
