Chapter 5

Chapter 5

The next morning, there was another letter on Harrymel’s desk. She had expected him to give up after her attitude yesterday, but it seemed this wouldn’t go as expected.

She thought it would be another ‘Meet me’ type of message, so she opened the letter, expecting a short note.

However, a surprisingly longer passage presented itself as she unfolded the letter.

She groaned inwardly. It read:

I’m sorry for yelling at you yesterday. But now that we’re dating it makes me sad that we can’t talk. You must be shy since you can’t speak when others are around. So, let’s meet alone in the courtyard after school today. I’ll be waiting.

~Rojis

 How annoying.

He’d be better off spending that time studying than trying to drag her down. Well, it’s not like she intended to give up first place.

“Ugh… what a pain.”

In short, he meant  ‘Meet me after class.’

She didn’t want to go, but he might demand something else if she declined. With no choice, Harrymel was in the courtyard after class, as the letter instructed.

“Remington!”

As soon as Harrymel appeared, Rojis waved her over with a triumphant look. Harrymel approached with a faint smile, trying to maintain a state of nonchalance.

“Now we can talk without worrying. There’s no one else here.”

“…”

“Remington—no, can I call you Harrymel when we’re alone?”

“…”

“Hey, are you listening?” he frowned, annoyed by her lack of response.

Since there was no one else around, she couldn’t use the ‘We can’t talk in public’ excuse.

Ignoring Rojis’s gaze, Harrymel pointed straight at the school building.

“What is it?”

“Look at the second-floor window.” When he did, he could see two or three female students chatting at a second-floor window.

“There are people there, so unfortunately, I can’t talk.”

“What? But that’s inside, and we’re outside the school building!”

“But the fact remains that there are people around. If those girls look out the window and see me with the Duke of Collins’ son, our secret will be out. It saddens me, but I have to leave this place to keep our secret. Well, excuse me.”

With that, Harrymel quickly fled the scene. He called out to her from behind, but without looking back, she returned to the school building and made her way to the library as usual.

“I guess I made him pretty mad,” she thought. Rejecting a false confession wasn’t easy because if she did so sincerely, those guys would probably laugh and say, “She took the confession seriously and even apologized.”

She didn’t want that, so she pretended to accept it, but only long enough for her nonchalance to irritate him and force him to give up. Wasn’t it okay to tease those who easily teased others?

Considering that there was a contract and his weakness of ‘not wanting to be exposed,’ she felt confident in her plan, even if she was being a little rude to a duke’s son.

Praying that he would not approach her tomorrow, Harrymel spread out her study materials on the table and began another productive evening.
