Chapter 35: CHAPTER 35
The room buzzed with the sound of everyone clamoring to volunteer. Hisashi, always one to step up first, was the loudest. "Look, it should be me," he argued, raising his hand as if presenting a case to the group. "In the original timeline, I was already dead, but Niikaz—" He gestured toward her dramatically, "—she saved me. Without her, I'd have been a goner. It's only fair that I bear the risk, right?"
Saeko, eyes narrowed with determination, wasn't having it. "I'm not sure I agree with that, Hisashi. Just because Niikaz saved you doesn't mean you should be the one to carry such a dangerous secret alone. We're all in this together."
Takashi nodded in agreement, his voice firm. "Exactly. No one here should have to bear that kind of weight alone. We all trust Niikaz."
Hisashi, not willing to back down, crossed his arms. "But—"
Before he could continue, Marikawa-sensei raised her hand like a child trying to get attention in class. "I volunteer too!" she said, her voice chipper. "I may not be the most skilled fighter, but I'm totally great at—uh, moral support!" She fluttered her lashes dramatically. "And you know everyone needs me around. Who wouldn't want to have a little fun while saving the world?"
Hirano, grinning ear to ear, jumped in. "Hey, count me in too! I know I get distracted sometimes, but I can handle the pressure. And who doesn't want to be in the know about Niikaz's mysterious abilities?"
Nishinoya, bouncing with energy, added his own enthusiastic offer. "I'm in! I mean, come on, what kind of team would we be if I didn't throw my hat into the ring?"
Takagi, ever the logical one, adjusted her glasses and said, "I suppose it wouldn't be fair to leave me out. I trust Niikaz, so I'll go along with whatever decision she makes."
Okada, still a bit nervous but determined, piped up, "I'll help, too. We're all in this together, right?"
Marikawa-sensei raised both hands in a victorious gesture. "See? Who could resist volunteering? This is the best team ever!" She giggled and winked at Niikaz. "I'm ready for whatever this secret is! Let's make it fun!"
Hisashi, clearly growing frustrated, spoke again, "But someone has to be the one who is level-headed enough to take on this responsibility. I've earned it!"
The others were in full agreement that Hisashi wasn't the only one who had earned the privilege. They were all arguing over who should bear the risk, the tension rising.
At that moment, Niikaz, who had been watching the scene unfold with a growing sense of amusement, finally spoke up. She stood up from her seat, looking as if she were about to address a room full of unruly children.
"Alright, everyone, calm down," she said, raising both hands in mock surrender. "Why are you guys like a I'm sort of a time bomb? I'm not a time bomb here, you know." She looked around the room with a slight grin, her tone teasing. "It's not like if you find out the secret, I'm going to explode or anything."
The group quieted slightly, unsure whether to laugh or stay serious.
Niikaz continued with a slightly more serious tone. "Look, the soul contract that comes with knowing the secret means that the people who are selected to know it will have to carry that knowledge... until the day they die. If the secret gets leaked, it doesn't mean I'll go on a killing spree or anything. It just means that, well, everyone involved will die at the same time. Me, and the three of you who know the secret."
There was a long pause as everyone absorbed the weight of her words. Hisashi, who had been brimming with argument, deflated a little. "So... basically, no one can mess it up, or we're all toast?"
"Pretty much," Niikaz replied, her smile returning. "But trust me, I'm not looking to drop any bombs here. I'm just making sure things stay... contained."
Marikawa-sensei burst out laughing, her usual carefree attitude back. "See? Niikaz is totally cool about this! No time bombs, no explosions! We just have to keep the secret—simple as that!"
Kazu, still processing, shook his head with a grin. "I can't believe how much you just made that sound so casual, Niikaz. But I still think I'd like to help. I trust you, Niikaz. And I think you can trust me too." His quiet determination seemed to catch Niikaz off guard, and for a moment, she regarded him thoughtfully.
Takashi, however, frowned. "Kazu, are you sure? You don't have to take on this kind of risk if you're not ready."
"I'm sure," Kazu said, his voice stronger this time. "If Niikaz needs someone, I want to be there for her. It's not just about fighting or being the strongest. It's about being dependable, right?"
Marikawa-sensei patted Kazu on the shoulder. "Aw, you're so sweet! But let's not forget who's got the maturity here."
Niikaz was visibly moved but hid it behind her usual calm demeanor. " I want Kazu to be one of selected three people"
The mood lightened as the teasing shifted back to Kazu. Nishinoya slapped him on the back. "Man, we're all risking our lives, and here you are getting special treatment."
"Leave me alone!" Kazu yelped, covering his face as the room burst into laughter again.
"Then can I be among three?" Mr Maresato stand Infront of her.
"I think its the best if it's me" Hisashi added. But this causing another argument among them. Its that they want to die but all of them feels thankful to Niikaz and willingly to support her by any means.
"Okay let's stop for a sec, since there no end on this-." She straightened and waved her hands dismissively. "We're postponing this decision. Number two isn't as important anymore, and frankly, you're all exhausting me."
The group began to protest, but Niikaz held up a hand to silence them. "All I can say for now is this: I can manifest almost anything within my capabilities. But! It's my decision whether I want to or not. That's all you need to know for now."
She stepped back and gave them all a sly smile. "As for the rest… it's a se-cr-et." She punctuated her words, leaning in with a playful wink.
Kazu couldn't help but chuckle nervously at her expression, and even Saeko giggle despite herself. The tension in the room finally began to dissipate, replaced by light-hearted laughter and groans of exasperation.
"Niikaz, you're impossible," Hisashi muttered, shaking his head with a grin.
"Better than being predictable," Niikaz shot back, turning on her heel.
As the group continued to talk and laugh, Niikaz sat back down, her expression warm as she watched everyone interact. Despite the tension, there was a sense of relief in the air. No matter how different their worlds were, they had all chosen to face the unknown together.
