I'm Lara Croft?

Chapter 32: Chapter 32

Amaru struggled to pull Lara off his back, but when he realized his arms couldn't reach her, he tried striking her legs, which were locked tightly around his torso. However, his blows lacked strength—his spine was constantly being stabbed in different places, and the celestial energy was being drained faster than the box could replenish it. Landing a solid hit became increasingly difficult.

Lara, perched firmly on his back, was relentless in her efforts. For every wound that Amaru managed to heal, two more appeared in its place. She wasn't aiming to kill him outright, as she wasn't sure what would happen if she did. Would the box stop releasing energy? Would the energy in Amaru's body disperse? Would his body, deprived of its healing ability, explode? Lara decided it was safer to keep him alive while she acted like a parasite, siphoning his energy until the box was depleted and Amaru's body was completely drained.

Realizing he couldn't shake her off, Amaru attempted a desperate move—he started running toward the edge of the temple in the volcano, intending to throw himself into the lava. But before he could reach his goal, his body began to falter. He lost control of his legs and collapsed.

Amaru tried to rise, but his fate was sealed. The celestial energy within him was tearing his body apart, and the relentless stabs from the crazy chick on his back only added to his agony.

Moments later, Lara delivered the final blow, almost severing Amaru's spine from his brain and draining the last remnants of energy from him. Though still alive, Amaru was dying. His once-powerful healing factor could no longer save him—his body was too destroyed, too exhausted to recover. The celestial energy had obliterated his X-gene, the very source of his abilities. The violent extraction of the energy had been the final blow, completely annihilating it.

Amaru's state could be compared to that of a jinchuriki from Naruto, whose tailed beast had been forcibly ripped away, while also destroying their ability to use chakra. In this case, the celestial energy was the beast, and the X-gene was the chakra.

As Lara climbed off Amaru's back, he turned with the last of his strength, clearly intending to say something. Knowing what he wanted to say, Lara spoke first. "Don't worry about Paititi. I will protect it."

Hearing her words, Amaru managed a faint smile before closing his eyes and succumbing to death.

Lara felt a small pang of sadness as he passed. Despite everything, she had a degree of respect for him. In the end, he was just a man trying to safeguard his home in his own twisted way. He could have even been a valuable subordinate if their paths had aligned differently. But fate had decreed that only one of them would survive this conflict. Amaru had killed her father, a cheap dad, but he still was her father and as a tribute to his memory, she knew she had to take Amaru's life.

As Lara stood, the celestial energy fully absorbed into her body, she felt an overwhelming power—the ability to reshape the world itself, or more precisely, to replan it. She came to understand the true nature of the Star Child: its role across the multiverse was that of a universal planner. Yes, Celestials exist simultaneously across the multiverse, with alternate versions of themselves acting as facets of a singular, unified entity.

The energy Lara had absorbed carried the extraordinary ability to replan the material world, down to the tiniest quark. However, its scope was not infinite; it was further constrained by the limited amount of energy available, restricting its effective radius to a single planet.

As she grappled with this power, the world around her faded into a blinding white space. Moments later, the scene shifted, and she found herself standing in the garden of Croft Manor. Before her, her father, Richard, and her mother, Amelia, were enjoying a picnic with a young Lara playing happily.

Lara recognized the vision immediately. She remembered that in the game, the box showed its wielder their deepest desire. It seemed that even here, the celestial energy tapped into its host's most profound longing.

"I don't even want this," Lara muttered, looking at the idyllic family scene. She wasn't hung up on the past. But as she spoke, she felt a wetness on her cheek. Raising her hand to her face, she realized with a start, "I'm crying?"

As she wiped away the tears, the young Lara in the vision stopped playing and turned to look at her. The young Lara smiled and said, "But I do."

Lara felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to reshape the world, to rewrite reality and make this vision a permanent truth. But she steeled her resolve, suppressing the desire. She repeated: replanning the world wouldn't truly revive anyone. She could recreate their bodies, but their souls belonged to Death, and the bodies would be nothing more than empty shells—mere vegetables without the essence that made them alive.

In an instant, the vision shattered, and she found herself back in the real world, standing beside Amaru's lifeless body, exactly where she had been moments before.

Looking toward the ceremonial table on the side of the temple bathed in sunlight from the ongoing eclipse, Lara spotted Crimson Fire. As she walked toward it, a powerful sensation coursed through her body—she felt like she was about to burst. Gritting her teeth, she strengthened her will to extend the containment of the energy from 20 seconds to 30 seconds. She knew that if she allowed the energy to erupt, it would minimally destroy the continent. The Earth itself would likely survive thanks to the protective forces surrounding it, but without those, even the solar system could suffer catastrophic damage.

Lara didn't waste time questioning how she was able to contain such a force. She understood that even a single moment of doubt, a faltering of will for just a nanosecond, would result in an implosion.

Reaching the table, Lara climbed onto it and handed the dagger to Crimson Fire, saying through gritted teeth, "Hurry up, or I'm gonna burst."

Crimson Fire nodded silently, channeling her energy into the dagger and performing a precise technique that activated its latent power. She then stabbed toward Lara's chest, stopping just before the blade pierced her fully. At that moment, the Star Child's energy began to transfer.

While invisible to the naked eye, Lara, still conscious, could perceive the energy being drawn out of her body and sent toward the sun at a speed so incomprehensible it was almost like teleportation. The transfer was rapid, controlled, and efficient.

Before Lara could observe further, her vision blurred, and her eyes closed.

Some time later, Lara awoke to the sensation of Jonah shaking her. His voice was filled with concern as he asked, "Lara, how do you feel?"

Smiling faintly, refreshed yet still a little sleepy, Lara replied, "You know how you feel refreshed after taking a really big dump?"

Jonah blinked, stunned by the unexpected answer. "Umm… yes?"

Lara's smile widened. "I feel like I just had the ultimate version of that."
