I’m Not a Saint, Not a Priest, Just a Healer

Chapter 34 - An Unexpected Event (2)

Troll.
A demonic beast much taller than a lizardman and as bulky as an orc.
Its strength was as impressive as its size, so when troll subjugation requests came to the adventurers’ guild, they never allowed a single party to accept the quest.
Trolls were not only powerful but also had excessive regenerative abilities, to the extent that even if their upper and lower body were separated, they could survive if put back together. Unless the head was blown off in one go, it was practically impossible to kill them by inflicting injuries.
Being carnivorous and big eaters, they were the kind of demonic beasts that would inhabit deep forests with plenty of mountain animals-
In other words, not the kind of demonic beast that should appear in a rural village like this.
“It’s a troll?!”
The troll, using a huge stone pillar as a weapon, swung it around destroying everything in sight while constantly roaring.
Even as they looked down at the scene from the mountain ridge, Yona’s group couldn’t move carelessly.
“There’s no need to save them, Yona. They’re of no concern to us.”
Kairoc’s words made sense.
Trolls weren’t easy opponents, and even with four skilled adventurers like them, they couldn’t guarantee victory.
They hadn’t received a request, and even if they defeated the troll, there wouldn’t be any particular benefit.
“…But if we just ignore this and pass by, we’ll have troubled dreams too.”
“…Well.”
That’s- true.
Yona couldn’t readily nod to Kairoc’s words.
They were people of no concern to them, and even if they caught the troll, there was nothing to gain and they might even suffer losses.
Thinking rationally, there was no need to do this.
“Let’s go ba-”
Yona was about to say let’s go around the mountain, this isn’t our business.
She wasn’t particularly overflowing with a sense of justice, nor was she altruistic enough to risk danger for the sake of strangers.

Yona, you are a cleric before being an adventurer. Being a healer doesn’t mean you’re not a cleric. Keep the heart of a cleric who pities others and has compassion for humans. Don’t forget, you are a cleric.
She seemed to hear Eije’s voice.
That voice was holding back Yona’s steps.
At that moment, another loud noise rang out.
The stone pillar slammed down on the ground with a boom.
“Sister-!”
A child’s scream that seemed to tear the air.
As Yona was about to turn away, she saw a little girl screaming as if she was being torn apart.
Something bright red flowed out from under the stone pillar the troll had slammed down.
‘…Is this, is this right?’
Is it right to turn away like this?
Is it right to turn away saying it’s none of our business?
Is it right to leave like this?
She saw the troll slowly lifting the stone pillar.
With its mouth wide open, drool dripping down, the troll looked down at the girl while drinking the blood flowing down the stone pillar, its eyes rolling wildly.
The troll slowly raised the stone pillar over its head.
Is this, right?
Yona’s golden eyes blankly watched the scene.
The troll lifted the stone pillar high.
The target of that stone pillar was undoubtedly that little girl.
“- Mr. James!”
“I’ve been waiting!”
An arrow shot like lightning from James’ hand.
A sound of cutting through the wind followed as if chasing the flying arrow, and eventually, that arrow stuck into the troll’s head and quivered.
“Yona, well done!”
Kairoc shouted as he ran ahead.
Kairoc kicked up dust as he sprinted towards the village down the mountain path.
“Well done, Yona, your decision is the right one.”
Alec patted Yona’s shoulder and also ran off.
Dust rose hazily and immediately settled as Alec ran off.
After watching that scene blankly for a moment, Yona unknowingly let out a shout.
“Hey, go, go together! How can you fight without a healer! You idiots!”
Yona also kicked off the mountain path and ran vigorously.
As if to cover them, arrows that were clearly shot by James behind them kept flying towards the troll, cutting through the wind.
In the position of dealing with demonic beasts, the guard’s primary duty is basically to deflect the attacks of the demonic beast.
The guard takes the lead in receiving attacks so that warriors can focus solely on attacking without worrying about the demonic beast’s attacks, and the healer’s role is to stick close and heal wounds so that the guard can receive attacks without fear.
Sometimes warriors get too enthusiastic and disregard coordination with the guard, just pouring out attacks, and at such times, the guard tends to overexert themselves, and consequently, the healer too.
Kairoc had somewhat of that tendency.
Being large and strong, and wielding a two-handed weapon, each of his attacks was very destructive, but the openings were also big, so Alec’s workload increased accordingly, and so did Yona’s.
In cases of huge physical differences like with the troll’s stone pillar, if the guard takes a direct hit, they might get blown away, so they need to deflect or slide off the attacks appropriately, which is not easy.
“Alec!”
At Kairoc’s shout, Alec put his shield forward and dove towards Kairoc’s waist.
The stone pillar slid over the angled shield and hit the bare ground with a thunderous sound.
“You idiot!”
While Kairoc had already moved for the next turn of attack, Yona’s hand quickly wrapped around Alec’s arm as she saw it dangling with the shield.
“Aargh…!”
Alec bit his lip to suppress a scream.
The wrist was undoubtedly broken, and Yona had grasped it unhesitatingly, so the pain was considerable.
“Alec!”
Kairoc’s shout was heard again.
“Watch and move, you lizard bastard!”
Yona, unable to stand it anymore, yelled out loud.
It’s true that Kairoc is an excellent warrior, but the problem is that his standard is too high because of that.
“Yona, stop it. I just need to move more. Let’s go.”
Alec got up again, readjusting his shield.
Yona didn’t say much to Alec.
She just looked at him with a somewhat displeased face.
The weight of the stone pillar was beyond imagination.
Every time the troll swung the stone pillar, which must have been pulled out from some collapsed building, Alec got injured, and each time, Yona got busier.
“What are you doing! Come in quickly and fight!”
Even though Kairoc was struggling alone, the villagers were just standing around watching blankly.
It was already becoming increasingly difficult with Kairoc being the only warrior, and since Kairoc wasn’t the type to pay much attention to the guard, both Alec and Yona were exhausted.
“Yona! Tell them to knock this thing down! There should be ropes or something!”
Kairoc shouted loudly.
Avoiding the stone pillar wasn’t difficult, but the troll, being a humanoid demonic beast, had two arms and mixed in small attacks like hitting Kairoc with its hands in between swinging the stone pillar, and Kairoc also had limits to his stamina.
“What are you all doing?! Are you just going to watch?!”

Yona shouted as she turned around.
Yona herself didn’t realize it, but with bloodshot eyes, her appearance as she turned around was quite fierce.
“Wh-what should we do…?!”
“Rope… ah, shit!”
As Alec had already started running, Yona had no choice but to run along.
While doing so, she kept an eye on the villagers.
Some people were shouting something, and eventually, seeing them bring ropes, it seemed they understood roughly, but whether this would actually help was questionable.
To catch a troll with a small number of people, ropes are essential, not just for trolls but for most humanoid large demonic beasts.
The most basic tactic is to attach a spinning weight to the end of the rope, tie it to the legs, pull it all at once to knock it down, and then behead it in one go.
But not only was it unreasonable for four people to execute this tactic, they didn’t even have ropes, so cooperation from the villagers was essential, but they were just watching blankly, which was infuriating.
It’s not incomprehensible, but still, shouldn’t they do something when people are fighting for them?
“Wh-what should we do?!”
An old man who seemed to be the village chief shouted loudly towards James.
They were asking James, the orc archer who seemed a bit better, because the healer who had angrily yelled at them was far away and actually a bit scary.
“Do you have anything that can be used as a spinning weight?”
James pulled out two daggers from his waist and looked at the old man.
An archer needs to constantly replenish arrows, and when unable to do so, an archer without arrows must also play the role of an agile dagger wielder.
“Wh-what’s a spinning weight?”
“Hmm, then give me that.”
As James held out his hand, the old man gestured behind him.
A man quickly brought a rope, and James handed one end to that man and tightly tied the dagger handle to the other end.
“Hold this well. When I signal, all the villagers should gather and pull. Understand?”
James deliberately blew out a strong breath through his nose.
As he snorted, the orc-faced James, who was already difficult to consider good-looking, looked even scarier, making people flinch.
“We’re not fighting for nothing, understand? If you don’t do it properly, we’ll leave the troll here and depart. You’ll have to deal with the aftermath.”
“Ah, understood. We’ll try!”
As the old man and the men nodded with determined expressions, James picked up the rope and slowly swung it.
The weight of the dagger tied to it felt quite heavy.
“Pull!”
The dagger-tied rope thrown by James, using the dagger as a spinning weight, wrapped around the troll’s legs multiple times.
As soon as James confirmed it had wrapped around several times, he shouted like thunder, and the village men pulled the rope with loud shouts.
“Kairoc! Get ready!”
Seeing this, Kairoc quickly moved away from where he expected the troll to fall.
Alec and Yona also hurriedly distanced themselves from Kairoc, clearing the way so Kairoc could immediately behead the troll when it fell.
“Pull harder! More!”
Every time the troll struggled to break the rope wrapped around its legs, Kairoc rushed in to check it with his axe.
As the rope was pulled taut, there was a fierce confrontation between the people trying to knock it down and the troll trying not to fall.
Although the troll’s strength was said to be tremendously strong, it couldn’t ignore the pull of over ten adult men all rushing to pull together.
After almost losing balance once, the troll flailed its arms and dropped the stone pillar, which flew with a thunderous sound onto the roof of a house in the village, crushing the entire house as it fell.
“Yona, stay still.”
“You, what are you try- Hey, hey! Alec! Alec–!”
Suddenly, Alec charged straight at the troll.
Seeing Alec do this, Yona also ran with a scream that seemed to tear, but she was slower than Alec.
Alec charged at the troll with his shield in front.
With momentum built up to the maximum, Alec leapt at the troll’s front with his shield, and the troll, already struggling to maintain balance, began to sway even more severely.
The troll’s arm, swung in an attempt to somehow maintain balance, struck Alec violently.
“Aaaaargh—!”
With a scream, Alec lost his grip on the shield and flew backwards.
And colliding head-on with Yona who was running towards him, the two rolled backwards for quite a while, tangled together.

Thud…!
The sound of the troll falling was heard.
“Well done, Alec!”
Kairoc’s shout was also heard.
