Chapter 422: Chapter 422 Checkpoint
Moses had a deep interest in the Divine Script and was quite invested in it.
His fascination didn't stem from the few fragments and scenes involving the divine script in the original story but from his personal experience during the last expedition to the unknown ruins, where he encountered the [Pipeline] Ability.
In an instant, he was transported to the top of the World Tree thousands of miles away...
Such a power not only filled Moses with awe but also sparked a desire to pursue it.
Thus, the mysterious and limitless potential of the Divine Script took root in his mind.
Perhaps, even if mastering Divine Script wouldn't allow him to create a power as incredible as the one from the ruins, which transported people across thousands of miles, it could undoubtedly assist him in achieving things he couldn't accomplish otherwise.
'Ging Freecss...'
Moses stared intently at the obscure symbols on the stone, and murmured to himself, 'If I want to find him, I'll probably have to clear Greed Island and bring out the [Magnetic Force] card… The problem is, only Gon can use that method."
When it comes to how to get in touch with the Divine Script, the only person Moses could think is Ging Freecss.
However, Ging was notorious for being elusive, even missing out on important Zodiacs meetings for years on end.
Finding someone like that was no easy task.
Moses thought about Greed Island, but the prerequisite for using the [Magnetic Force] card was having seen the person inside the game.
Therefore, only someone like Gon, who had previously been to Greed Island with Ging, could use this method.
'Even if I do find Ging...'
Moses shook his head slightly.
Finding Ging is one thing, but whether the other party would be willing to teach him the Divine Script was another.
Such an uncertain pursuit made Moses stop dwelling on the thoughts stirred by the Divine Script on the stone.
Shizuku and Menchi stood nearby, silently observing Moses in his contemplation, careful not to disturb him.
The torrential rain showed no signs of letting up, its cold droplets carried by the wind, lashing against them with a biting chill.
Moses stopped thinking about it and pushed aside the stone inscribed with Divine Script, finding no hidden secrets within.
If it weren't for the faint patterns of Divine Script hinting at some deeper meaning, these stones would seem no different from the common rocks found along any roadside.
"Let's go."
Moses stood up and looked at the faint light source that remained fixed in the rainstorm in the distance.
The Divine Script on the stone clearly required Nen to be activated, but there was also the possibility that their effects had already worn off.
No matter which possibility it was, Moses had no intention of pushing it further, so he turned his attention away from the Divine Script and continued moving forward.
After hearing Moses's words, Shizuku and Menchi subconsciously looked at each other.
They could tell that Moses was very interested in the so-called Divine Script. Though they were curious about it, they knew nothing of the subject and didn't even know where to begin asking questions.
Seeing Moses walking back to the path, they suppressed their curiosity and quickly followed him.
After walking through the wind and rain for about twenty minutes, Moses and the other two spotted a boundary marked by a line of steel barricades, as well as a series of simple guard towers built in between.
The spotlights atop the watchtowers moved back and forth at a steady pace, illuminating the area.
Wherever the light passed, the faint silhouettes of heavily armed soldiers standing at the boundary entrance became visible.
This was clearly one of the checkpoints marking the edge of the Taro Region's restricted zone.
Moyu could easily pass through the blockade of the Taro Region with the help of Rat Jewel's ability, but he did not do so. Instead, he went straight to the checkpoint where the soldiers were stationed.
After all-
Even if he managed to sneak in, without the proper permit or identity, he would still be at the mercy of the Luluci's military, which might hinder his hunting mission.
Rather than face that potential problem, why not see if he can use his Hunter License to gain access officially?
"Halt!"
Before Moses and his group could step into the spotlight's range, a stern voice came from behind the barricades.
As a visitor, Moses wasn't about to provoke the soldiers. He immediately stopped and looked at the searchlight that had stopped swinging and the several figures at the checkpoint.
"This is a military-controlled area. Unauthorized personnel must leave immediately!"
Seeing Moses and his two companions stop, the stern voice rang out again.
Moses raised his Hunter License high and called out in the direction of the voice: "I am Moses, a professional Blacklist Hunter. This is my Hunter License. I'm here to share important intelligence. Could you please ask your commanding officer to meet with me?"
"Without a valid pass, no one is allowed beyond the checkpoint. Be aware that we have the right to shoot anyone who trespasses."
The Luluci's soldiers who were in charge of garrisoning here only recognized the pass and did not care about the identity and motive reported by Moses.
The main reason is that the excavation of the tomb is of great importance. Otherwise, with the Hunter License alone, the garrison soldiers would have at least taken a moment to verify Moses' Hunter License.
This was Moses's first time using his Hunter License for official purposes, and he hadn't expected it to be so unsuccessful.
'Perhaps if I had been a Single-Star or Double-Star Hunter, I wouldn't have been rejected so quickly.'
However, the hardline attitude displayed by the soldiers guarding the checkpoint gave Moses a sense that something unusual was going on.
'It seems there's no other choice now...'
Since he can't enter the blocked area legitimately, then he can only sneak in.
Although there was no guarantee that he would find any trace of the Erimo Bandit Group within the blocked Taro Region, if he were caught without proper authorization or permits, the Luluci's military would definitely treat him as an enemy.
By then, it would be a troublesome situation.
Moses sighed softly, took a step back, then turned around and signaled Shizuku and Menchi to follow him.
Since the direct approach failed, they would have to find a spot nearby where he could use the Rat Jewel's [Rat's Path].
"Wait a moment, my superior wants to meet you."
Just as Moses had taken a few steps away, the stern voice called out again.
This unexpected turn of events made Moses stop in his tracks. He turned back to look at the checkpoint with a slightly raised brow.
The voice continued, "Moses, right? Only you can come forward!"
"No problem."
Moses naturally wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by. He turned to Menchi and Shizuku and said softly, "Wait for me here."
"Okay, be careful, Master."
"Got it."
Menchi and Shizuku both nodded at Moses.
Moses then slowly walked toward the checkpoint, and the Aura flowing out of his Aura Nodes steadily covered his body.
