Chapter 1297: Lovich
Given the enhanced effects of the Innovation Potion, Yuga decided to increase its supply to the League.
Previously, Yuga had held back the monthly supply of Innovation Potion to the various League branches. However, with the improvements in its effects, he felt it was reasonable to increase the monthly allocation.
The League had always treated him well, and Yuga believed it wouldn't hurt to proactively make more contributions to them.
After leaving the Ecopark, Yuga contacted the head of the Distribution Department, Officer Jenny Nan.
The Distribution Department was responsible for delivering the Innovation Potion to the various League branches. Since Yuga intended to increase the supply, contacting the head of the department was the most appropriate move.
Officer Jenny Nan was delighted to hear from Yuga and immediately informed the League headquarters. The headquarters, in turn, quickly notified all the League branches.
The upper management of the League branches, upon receiving the news, was full of praise for Yuga. Thanks to the Innovation Potion, the League had been able to nurture plenty of fresh talent over the past couple of years.
Yuga's decision to increase the supply of the Innovation Potion also brought Hoenn's League division into the spotlight once again.
Yuga had always provided the Hoenn League division with the largest supply of Innovation Potion. With the increase, the Hoenn division also saw the largest growth in allocation, making other divisions green with envy.
The leaders of the other League divisions couldn't help but sigh once more: Why couldn't Yuga be one of their people?
Yuga informed the League that the Innovation Potion he was now providing was the improved version, not the older formula.
In truth, Yuga had no need to hide his research achievements. With his current standing in the League—both in terms of status and strength—no one would dare have designs on him, and the headquarters wouldn't allow it either.
Over the years, Yuga had made countless contributions to the League.
The price of the improved Innovation Potion had only increased slightly, with the change being so small that none of the League divisions had any objections.
Given the effectiveness of the Innovation Potion, the price Yuga charged the League was remarkably fair, far below its actual value.
Although Yuga's production costs for the potion weren't particularly high—most of the key ingredients were produced on his property, with only a few auxiliary materials purchased externally—the League had no idea. They even believed the Innovation Potion's production costs were extremely high.
All sales of Yuga's Innovation Potion, apart from his own use and that supplied directly to the League, were entirely managed by the League. Every single bottle was strictly monitored and controlled within League channels.
This was another reason why the League was so pleased with Yuga.
In a way, the Innovation Potion was considered a strategic resource. Although the production source was in Yuga's hands, the League needed to ensure that its final distribution remained under their control.
Soon, the day arrived for the monthly pickup of Innovation Potion by the Distribution Department. Yuga instructed Dou Dou and four Audino to bring out the boxes of prepared potions, ready for the Distribution Department team to collect them.
Around 9:30 in the morning, the team from the Distribution Department arrived punctually at the store's entrance. Suzuki-en welcomed them inside one by one.
Among the arrivals, Yuga spotted someone unexpected—Kerry.
It turned out that Kerry had been commended for her outstanding performance during her undercover mission against Team Radiance. As a reward, the League transferred her to Verdanturf Town's Distribution Department.
Ordinarily, due to her grandfather Bridges' influence, Kerry wouldn't have been considered for a significant League position. But exceptions exist for a reason.
Not only had Kerry excelled during her last mission, but she had always been diligent and hardworking in previous tasks as well. Her superior admired her dedication and went to some lengths to secure her transfer to the Distribution Department.
Kerry's superior had long been aware of the ostracism she faced from her colleagues. However, such subtle exclusion was difficult to address directly, even for a superior. Interference often couldn't resolve such matters.
Kerry replaced a former Distribution Department employee, Rinba, who had been transferred out.
Rinba was a Coordinator and one highly regarded by the official Contest Spectacular organization. Her stint in the Distribution Department was merely a part of her training, and her departure was inevitable.
While the others busied themselves loading Innovation Potions onto the truck, Kerry approached Yuga and said, "Gym Leader Shimizu, thank you."
"Thank me?" Yuga was taken aback at first but soon understood her meaning.
Kerry had survived her ordeal with Team Radiance largely thanks to the assistance of the Flygon. Without it, she wouldn't have had the chance to report her findings to the League, nor would the League have been able to take the opportunity to eliminate some of Team Radiance's bases.
Kerry's accomplishments stemmed directly from that incident.
She only later learned that the Salamence had intervened on her behalf because of its relationship with the Flygon at YoYo Day Care.
Normally, that Salamence was a king-like figure in Meteor Falls, answering to no one. It was only due to its regard for Yuga and his Shelgon that it chose to help. Without their influence, getting the Salamence to act would have been impossible.
The positions in the Distribution Department were highly coveted within the League. Without her achievements and her superior's favor, Kerry wouldn't have stood a chance of securing one.
This new position was critical for Kerry. Staying in her former role would have kept her in a disposable position with no prospects for advancement.
"There's no need to thank me; this was all your own hard work," Yuga replied.
In truth, Yuga had a positive impression of Kerry. Without her efforts, he wouldn't have obtained Cosmoem.
Hearing Yuga's response, Kerry simply nodded slightly in acknowledgment and turned to assist her colleagues with the loading.
Once all the Innovation Potions were loaded onto the truck, the Distribution Department team departed. Their next task was to deliver the potions to the various League branches.
After Kerry and her team left, Yuga was about to head back inside when he noticed a flash of purple near his house.
Curious, he walked toward the spot. A head of purple hair peeked out from a corner, almost bumping into Yuga's chest in surprise.
"Y-you... what are you doing here?"
The purple-haired boy took a few steps back, his face flushed as he stammered nervously.
Yuga, speechless, said, "Shouldn't I be the one asking that? What are you sneaking around for?"
Looking at the boy's face, which strongly resembled Cecilia's, Yuga immediately recalled his identity.
"Sneaking around? What sneaking around? I'm just... just looking around!" The purple-haired boy raised his voice unconvincingly.
Yuga examined the boy before him and said, "You're Kerry's younger brother, right? Your name is..." He paused to search his memory but couldn't recall it.
However, Yuga's impression of the boy was quite strong. This kid had caused trouble at the YoYo Day Care once and had been handed over to the police by Yuga himself. That incident had led to Kerry giving Yuga the Cosmoem egg.
Seeing the boy remain silent, Yuga asked again, "Are you here to cause trouble again?"
Lovich immediately retorted, "I'm not!"
"Then what are you here for?" Yuga asked in confusion.
"I... I'm sorry!" Lovich suddenly bowed deeply to Yuga. "I came to apologize to you!"
Before Yuga could respond, Lovich turned around and ran away.
Startled by Lovich's sudden action, Yuga was momentarily stunned. By the time he came to his senses, the boy had already run far away.
Shaking his head in exasperation, Yuga walked back into the store.
Children's thoughts really are hard for adults to understand!
After running out of sight of the YoYo Day Care, Lovich stopped, took a deep breath, and tidied his clothes before heading home.
Since Kerry's job had been relocated to Verdanturf Town, Lovich had moved with her.
Kerry had told him that she owed her new position to the help of Verdanturf Town Gym Leader Shimizu Yuga.
Lovich knew all too well how important this position was to his sister. Over the years, their family had experienced too much of the cold and warmth of human relationships.
His parents were better off—they had retired from the League long ago and now lived ordinary lives. The fallout from their grandfather's situation hadn't affected them too much. But for his sister, still working in the League, things were different.
Lovich was no longer the naive young master he once was. He understood how hard his sister had worked. She didn't want to leave the League; she wanted to pave her own path and prove they were different from their grandfather.
Back when he caused trouble at the YoYo Day Care, it was his sister who went to apologize for him. He hadn't gone personally, and that had weighed on his mind ever since.
After the incident, his family was furious with him. His sister sent him to live with their grandmother for over six months. During that time, his grandmother taught him many valuable lessons.
Let the past involving their grandfather remain in the past.
Lovich swore that one day he would become someone who could shoulder responsibility for his sister.
To Yuga, Lovich's apology was nothing more than a brief interlude, something he didn't pay much attention to.
When Kerry had come with Cosmoem egg to apologize back then, Yuga had promised to let Lovich's incident slide. Naturally, he wasn't going to hold a grudge now.
The next day around noon, at the gym, Yuga had just finished a battle with a challenger and was helping Beidou and two other staff members tidy up the battlefield.
Just then, Shoryu entered the gym with someone in tow. When Yuga took a closer look, he was surprised to see Lovich.
"What are you two doing together?" Yuga asked, astonished.
"I..."
Lovich stammered, unable to finish his sentence. He hadn't expected Shoryu to be a member of the Verdanturf Gym.
Shoryu raised his hand and said loudly, "Gym Leader, this big brother is amazing! He even taught my Gastly how to beat Liam's Zigzagoon!"
As it turned out, after school, Shoryu had arranged a battle with his classmate Liam. But Liam's Zigzagoon, being a Normal type, was immune to Gastly's Ghost-type moves.
Gastly only knew Ghost-type attacks and hadn't learned moves of other types yet, as Yuga and Beidou were focusing on building its foundational skills.
Gastly's potential was outstanding, and a strong foundation would ensure smoother growth in the future.
The learning of new moves wasn't particularly challenging under Yuga's guidance, so he and Beidou hadn't rushed to teach them.
Although Lovich's family had fallen from prominence, they were once renowned for raising Ghost-type Pokémon. As the young master of the family, Lovich still possessed considerable knowledge.
Initially, Lovich had planned to head out and train his Pokémon somewhere. However, while passing by a clearing near his home, he spotted Shoryu and Liam engaged in a battle.
Shoryu's Gastly, despite its limited moves, was actually at a high level. Unfortunately, Shoryu was still a novice.
Lovich couldn't stand watching Gastly and Liam's Zigzagoon glaring at each other in a stalemate. He finally spoke up and offered a few pointers to Shoryu's Gastly.
To Lovich's surprise, Shoryu's Gastly turned out to be a prodigy. After only a bit of guidance, it mastered the move Dark Pulse, decisively defeating Zigzagoon.
Afterward, Shoryu and Lovich started chatting and quickly hit it off.
Though Shoryu was young, he had learned a lot from Yuga and knew many things that fascinated Lovich.
Invited by Shoryu, Lovich followed him back to the Gym.
Lovich felt a bit awkward when he saw Yuga. However, after hearing the story of how they met, Yuga smiled and thanked Lovich. "Thank you for helping today."
"It's… it's nothing."
Lovich glanced around the Verdanturf Gym, seemingly wanting to say something. But just then, two voices echoed from the entrance.
"I'm back!"
"We're back!"
Looking toward the courtyard, Yuga saw Anmu and Anlin walking in together.
Seeing Lovich, the twins hesitated for a moment.
"A visitor? Is he a challenger?"
Seeing Anmu and Anlin, Lovich swallowed the words he was about to say. He turned to Yuga and said, "I'll be leaving now." Without waiting for a response, he bolted.
"Hey…" Yuga extended a hand, intending to invite Lovich to stay for lunch as thanks for helping Shoryu. But before he could finish, Lovich had already disappeared.
"Gym Leader, why did the big brother suddenly run away?" Shoryu asked, confused.
"I don't know," Yuga replied, shaking his head. "Next time you see him, make sure to thank him properly, okay?"
"I will!" Shoryu nodded obediently.
After speaking to Shoryu, Yuga turned to the twins and asked, "Why are you two back? You didn't even call ahead to let me know."
"We happened to be traveling near Verdanturf Town, so we decided to drop by," Anmu explained. "It was a last-minute decision."
Yuga nodded without pressing further. Instead, he asked, "Does your sister know you're back? She's not home right now; she's at the ranch with her mentor."
"She doesn't know yet," Anlin replied with a grin. "We'll head to the ranch to see her now."
"Oh, right! We brought a gift for Shoryu," Anmu said suddenly, just as they were about to leave.
He pulled a Spell Tag from his backpack and handed it to Shoryu. "This will be perfect for your Gastly."
Shoryu, being the youngest in the Gym, was beloved by everyone. Overjoyed, he accepted the Spell Tag. "Thank you, Brother Anmu!"
Anmu patted Shoryu's head. "You're welcome."
Not wanting to be outdone, Anlin quickly took out his own gift. "I have something too! Here you go!"
He handed Shoryu a Dusk Stone, which wasn't immediately useful but might come in handy in the future.
Shoryu carefully put the Dusk Stone away. "Thank you, Brother Anlin, too!"
Watching Anmu and Anlin interact with Shoryu, Yuga smiled with satisfaction. The two youngest kids in the Gym had grown up and were now like big brothers themselves.
