Immortal Sovereign's Ascension

Chapter 53: THE GATHERING WINDS

Chapter 51: The Gathering Winds

The journey back to the Azure Sky Sect was marked by an uneasy stillness. Zhang Wei and his team moved through the changing landscape, their steps measured, their thoughts heavy. The northern mountains faded into the distance, replaced by rolling plains and dense forests, but the echoes of the ancient temple still lingered in their minds.

Lin Xiyu walked beside Zhang Wei, her gaze scanning the horizon. "Do you think we'll find more temples like the one in the north?" she asked, her tone tinged with curiosity and concern.

"We will," Zhang Wei said firmly. "The seals weren't meant to last forever. If one has failed, others will follow."

The system chimed softly: Host must prioritize investigation of ancient relics and seals to prevent further disruptions.

Their return to the Azure Sky Sect was met with a mix of relief and urgency. Disciples and elders alike gathered in the main courtyard as Zhang Wei recounted the events in the northern territories—the ancient temple, the orb, and the ominous warnings left in its wake.

Elder Hua's expression grew more serious with every word. "This is troubling news," she said. "If these relics truly predate cultivation itself, we're dealing with forces far beyond our understanding."

Liang Feng, standing beside her, crossed his arms. "And we've seen what happens when relics like these fall into the wrong hands. If there are more out there, it's only a matter of time before someone tries to use them."

Zhang Wei nodded. "That's why we can't wait for them to come to us. We need to find these relics before anyone else does."

The system chimed: New Quest: Investigate the locations of potential ancient seals and relics.

Objective: Gather intelligence, locate remaining seals, and determine their status.Reward: Hidden knowledge, unique cultivation techniques, and rare artifacts.

The council convened that evening to discuss the next steps. Elder Hua spread a map across the table, marked with notes and symbols representing areas of interest.

"We've identified several locations that match the descriptions in the texts you brought back from the White Flame Pavilion," she said. "These are places where the natural Qi flow is unusually chaotic, similar to what you described in the northern mountains."

Liang Feng pointed to a region in the western deserts. "This area has been avoided by cultivators for centuries. There are rumors of an ancient ruin buried beneath the sands, but no one has dared to explore it."

Another elder highlighted a remote island in the eastern seas. "This island is said to be cursed. Ships that venture too close vanish without a trace. If a relic is there, it's well hidden."

Zhang Wei studied the map, his gaze sharp. "We'll need to divide our efforts. I'll lead a team to the western deserts. The Crimson Blade Sect and Jade River Sect can investigate the eastern seas."

The system chimed: Sub-Quest updated: Explore the western deserts to uncover potential relic sites.

The preparations for the journey were swift. Zhang Wei gathered a small group of elite disciples, including Lin Xiyu, and set out for the deserts at dawn. The journey took them through vast stretches of barren land, the sun beating down relentlessly.

"The heat here is unbearable," one disciple muttered, wiping sweat from his brow.

"Focus on your Qi," Zhang Wei instructed. "Let it circulate to regulate your body temperature."

Lin Xiyu smirked. "I'd trade this heat for the northern cold any day."

Zhang Wei chuckled faintly. "You'll change your mind when the sandstorms start."

The system chimed: Environmental hazard detected: Sandstorms imminent. Host must ensure team safety.

The first storm hit just as they neared the suspected location of the relic. The wind howled, carrying grains of sand that stung like needles. Zhang Wei used his Qi to form a protective barrier around the group, guiding them to shelter beneath a rocky outcrop.

"This is why no one comes here," Lin Xiyu said, her voice barely audible over the wind.

"But it's also why the relic is still hidden," Zhang Wei replied.

When the storm passed, the group emerged to find a vast expanse of dunes stretching before them. At the center of the desert, a jagged stone structure jutted from the sands. Its surface was covered in ancient carvings, similar to those Zhang Wei had seen in the northern temple.

"This is it," he said, his tone resolute.

The system chimed: New Sub-Quest: Investigate the ruin in the western desert and locate the relic.

The team approached the structure cautiously, their senses alert for any signs of danger. As they entered the ruin, the temperature seemed to drop, and the air grew heavy with an unnatural energy.

The main chamber of the ruin was dominated by a massive obelisk, its surface glowing faintly with runes. At its base lay a pedestal, upon which rested a small, intricately carved box.

"That must be it," Lin Xiyu said, stepping forward.

"Wait," Zhang Wei said sharply. "The Qi around it is unstable. It's protected."

The system chimed: Host must disable the protective barrier to access the relic.

Zhang Wei examined the runes on the obelisk, channeling his Qi to disrupt their flow. The process was painstaking, each adjustment requiring precision and focus.

As the barrier faded, the air trembled, and a low rumble echoed through the chamber. The box began to glow, its energy radiating outward in waves.

Zhang Wei stepped forward, lifting the box carefully. The moment he touched it, a vision flashed before his eyes—a swirling vortex of shadows and light, voices whispering of a great power bound by ancient chains.

The system chimed: Relic acquired. Host must safeguard it and investigate its connection to the seals.

As they left the ruin, the sandstorm returned, but Zhang Wei's focus was elsewhere. The vision had revealed more than he could comprehend, but one thing was clear—the relic was a key to something far greater.

"This is only the beginning," he said, his grip tightening on the box. "The shadows are deeper than we imagined."

Lin Xiyu glanced at him, her expression serious. "Then we'd better start digging."
