In Another World as a…Bus Driver?

Chapter 42: Chapter 42 – A Bus’s Alarm and another 2 Fields in Peril

Third person POV

The rest of the day was spent investigating and doing random stuff while doing that. Russell kept on his lightning magic training with Cassius, who had sent a letter of update to his royal masters in the capital. Now, Cassius was waiting for their response, which was in the form of a letter back to him. In their investigation, they found out that so far, only 1 farming field was affected by this suspicious pestilence, and the rest are safe. Although it was good, Russell and his group they should stay vigilant on any more fields being destroyed by the pestilence.

So, at night, while Russell and his group are asleep in their rooms in the town inn, the same hooded figures that were spying on them last time are now targeting more fields west of the town. The method is the same: using magically summoned insects to eat the fields' crops. But as her fellow conspirators did so, one member, whose face was obscured by the hood, walked towards Russell's bus. She saw how new it was and considered that as a new and rare novelty. The bus was parked in a field across from the street where the inn Russell and his group were staying currently. Then, she proceeded to do some tampering with the purpose of testing its durability with her magical staff. So, she fired various magic spells toward its windows and exterior on one side, producing a metallic noise as a result.

Then, after 5 hits, the bus's alarm system was turned on, sending a sound of distress and alert to those who would hear it. The female figure was alerted by it, but she couldn't do anything to stop the alarm was keeping on because…she didn't know how to stop it. Because of that, Russell heard the alarm, and that awakened him from his peaceful slumber. And then, he put on his business suit from his bus driver's uniform, grabbed his scabbard containing his precious sword, and dashed out of his inn room and into the street outside, crossing it to his bus.

Upon arriving there, the female hooded figure was agitated by his coming presence. Seeing that she might be the one who caused his bus's alarm system to turn itself on, Russell unsheathed his sword and pointed it at her in some hostility. "Who are you? What are you doing here, huh?" The hooded female then responded by casting and firing some magic spells at him.

Russell then dodged her attacks quickly and lunged at her with his sword.

The figure then dodged his attack and tried to strike him in the back with her magical staff.

But, the outer clothing of Russell's bus driver's uniform was resistant to melee attacks.

So, it didn't do much damage on Russell, and Russell noticed that and grabbed her arm in response, before pinning her down to the ground as his bus's alarm kept on emitting alarm noises.

Then, he pointed his sword towards her and asked, "Who are you? What you were doing to my bus?"

Instead of answering him, the female hooded figure struck him in the face, allowing her to be free from his clutches.

She got away with it, and Russell felt some pain of being struck in the face. "Oww…"

After that, he regained his focus and looked at his alarming bus, before using his ignition key to try to turn the alarm system off. It did the trick, and the bus no longer made any alarming noises. Seeing that made Russell sigh in relief. But also, it made him wonder who was that hooded figure who vandalized his bus. He then checked the exterior of his bus for any damages but only saw slight and light damages in the form of burns on the metal exterior body. Luckily, none of the windows were shattered.

After some checking, Russell returned back to the inn to continue sleeping until the next morning, intending to show off his Repairs ability to his group upon repairing the light damages the mysterious hooded figure did to his bus. And so, the next morning after a light breakfast, he did so, repairing the light damages on his bus with his ability. This repairs the bus in an instant, and since those are just light damages, it only consumed a small amount of his mana. His group was stunned and astonished to see such an ability that can repair anything in just seconds. Cassius and Adrian couldn't believe that as well.

"You can do that, too?!" Azalea asked.

 "That was fast," John added.

"Yes," replied Russell with a smile on his face, "that ability is called Repairs, which allows its user to instantly repair anything, in this case, a bus, but it consumes some of your mana in exchange."

At the same time, another 2 farming fields were struck by the mysterious pestilence. The motive is more likely to stir up a rebellion against the mayor of the town. The mayor didn't know about it yet.
