Chapter 11: New Soldiers
As the dim light of the inn room filtered through the thin curtains, Alex sat cross-legged on the wooden floor, his system interface glowing faintly before him. The room was quiet except for the occasional creak of the floorboards and the distant murmur of voices from the common room below.
He accessed the system store and began browsing its endless inventory. With a quick thought, he navigated to the currency exchange section. "System," he muttered under his breath, "convert 100 credits into gold coins."
A soft chime confirmed the transaction, and moments later, a small pouch of gold coins materialized in his inventory. He nodded, satisfied, and quickly bought a fresh batch of 9mm bullets to replenish his ammunition.
As he scrolled through the system's store, a peculiar option caught his eye—a tab labeled Soldiers. Intrigued, Alex clicked on it, and a new menu unfolded before him. His breath hitched as he scanned the options.
The list was extensive and diverse:
Common Soldiers (GOT World): 5 credits each.
Dothraki Warriors: 10 credits.
Unsullied Soldiers: 10 credits.
Modern Armed Soldiers: 100 credits each.
Knights (Fully Armored): 50 credits each.
Space Marines (Fictional Worlds): 100,000 credits.
Custodians (Fictional Worlds): 1,000,000 credits.
And higher tiers, with costs soaring into billions of credits.
Alex's eyes lingered on the astronomical prices of the elite options. A wry grin formed on his face. "Well, guess I won't be getting a Space Marine anytime soon," he muttered.
Instead, he focused on more practical options. His gaze landed on knights—fully armored and skilled in medieval combat. At 50 credits each, they seemed like a reasonable investment. With his current balance of over 1,000 credits, thanks to the mission reward, he could afford a few without breaking the bank.
Before making a decision, Alex paused, hearing a soft shuffling behind him. He turned to see Daenerys sitting up on the bed, her wide, curious eyes fixed on him.
"What are you doing?" she asked timidly, her gaze darting to where Alex's fingers moved through the air. To her, it looked like he was gesturing at nothing.
Alex hesitated. He couldn't exactly explain the system, so he defaulted to the lie he'd crafted before. "It's magic," he said simply, his tone casual.
Daenerys frowned but didn't press further. After a moment, she shifted uncomfortably. "Can I… can I see the dragon eggs?"
Alex's brows furrowed. "Why? They're safer in my… magical storage," he said, trying to avoid the word "inventory."
"They're mine," Daenerys said softly, but there was a firmness to her voice that surprised Alex. "You said they're my future. I want to hold them. To feel them."
Alex sighed, scratching the back of his head. After a brief internal debate, he relented. "Fine," he said. With a quick command to the system, he summoned the dragon eggs, which materialized on the bed in front of her.
Daenerys gasped softly, her hands trembling as she reached out to touch them. The smooth, scaled surfaces of the eggs felt warm to her touch, as if they held a life of their own.
"Thank you," she whispered, cradling the eggs like precious treasures.
Alex watched her for a moment before returning his focus to the system. He selected Knights and recruited two for a total of 100 credits.
A soft glow filled the room, and two figures materialized before him. Both were clad in gleaming plate armor, their visors down, and their swords at their sides. They knelt before Alex, their voices deep and unwavering.
"Master," one of them said, "we are at your command."
Alex nodded, impressed by their imposing presence. These knights weren't just ordinary soldiers—they exuded an aura of discipline and loyalty.
"Stand," Alex said, gesturing for them to rise. He gave them a quick once-over, noting the craftsmanship of their armor and the confidence in their stances. "Your mission is simple: protect us. Especially her," he said, nodding toward Daenerys.
The knights nodded silently, their hands resting on the hilts of their swords.
Daenerys glanced up, her eyes widening at the sight of the knights. "Who… who are they?"
"More magic," Alex said with a smirk. "They'll keep us safe."
Daenerys nodded slowly, still cradling the dragon eggs. Despite her initial apprehension, she was beginning to trust Alex's strange ways.
As night fell over Pentos, Alex felt a renewed sense of confidence. With the knights by his side, he knew their chances of surviving improved by a lot. Alex knew as to why to be quick even though GOT world is a bit backward in tech. He was sure Illyrio would send his messages looking for daenerys and dragon eggs.
The soft glow of the lantern lit the room as Alex sat on a wooden stool, his mind filled with strategies for the days ahead. The two knights stood silently, their towering forms casting long shadows against the walls. Alex studied them for a moment before speaking.
"You'll need names," he said, his tone thoughtful. He pointed to the knight on the left, whose armor bore subtle engravings of a lion. "I'll call you Leon."
The knight bowed slightly. "Leon, at your service, Master."
Alex turned to the other knight, whose armor was darker, almost black, with a faint design resembling wings. "And you… you'll be Raven."
The second knight nodded. "As you wish, Master."
Satisfied, Alex reached into his pouch and pulled out a handful of gold coins. He handed them to Leon. "Go to the market and get food for all of us. Something filling but not too extravagant. We don't want to draw attention."
"Understood," Leon said, taking the coins and tucking them into a pouch at his belt. With a nod, he left the room, his armored boots clinking softly on the wooden floor as he descended the stairs.
As the door closed behind him, Alex turned his attention to Raven, who remained at his post by the door, ever vigilant.
Alex then shifted his focus to Daenerys, who sat on the bed, gently caressing one of the dragon eggs. Her gaze was distant, as if lost in thought.
"Daenerys," Alex called softly, pulling her from her reverie.
She looked up, her violet eyes meeting his. "Yes?"
He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "If you're serious about being a queen, you have a lot to learn. Ruling isn't just about sitting on a throne or commanding armies. It's about understanding your people, making tough decisions, and ensuring their loyalty."
Daenerys frowned slightly. "I know that," she said, though her voice wavered.
Alex shook his head. "No, you don't. Not yet. You've lived your whole life under your brother's shadow, and he's done nothing but fill your head with empty promises and delusions of grandeur."
Her lips pressed into a thin line, but she didn't argue.
He continued, his tone firm but not unkind. "If you want to rule, you need to grow stronger. Learn to think critically, to lead with both strength and compassion. And those dragons…" He gestured toward the eggs. "When they hatch—and they will—you need to be ready. They won't just be pets; they'll be weapons, symbols of power. You'll need to decide how to use them wisely."
Daenerys stared at the eggs for a moment before nodding slowly. "I'll learn," she said, determination creeping into her voice. "Teach me."
Alex smiled faintly. "Good. That's the first step."
He leaned back, glancing at Raven. The knight stood like a statue, a silent reminder of the power now at Alex's disposal. The system's store menu lingered in the back of his mind, specifically the option to recruit soldiers.
With over 500 credits still at his disposal, Alex knew it was time to start preparing for the future. He opened the interface discreetly, navigating to the Soldiers section. His eyes scanned the options, and he settled on the Unsullied—highly trained, obedient, and fiercely loyal.
"For 500 credits, I can get 50 of them," Alex thought, his lips curling into a small grin. "That'll give us a solid force when the time comes to buy a ship and leave Pentos."
He didn't purchase them yet, knowing it would be suspicious to suddenly summon an army in their current location. But the plan was forming in his mind, and the system reassured him that the soldiers would be ready for immediate deployment when needed.
"Daenerys," Alex said, pulling her attention back to him. "We'll stay here for a day or two, just long enough to get supplies and plan our next move. But remember, the world isn't safe for you. Illyrio won't stop looking, and there are worse people out there than him."
She nodded, her grip tightening on the dragon egg in her lap. "I'll be ready," she said, her voice steady.
Alex studied her for a moment, noting the flicker of resolve in her eyes. She was still young, still uncertain, but she was beginning to understand the weight of her destiny.
"Good," Alex said, leaning back. "Because this is just the beginning."
As night fell, Leon returned with food—simple bread, cheese, and roasted meat. The three of them ate in relative silence, each lost in their own thoughts. The knights stood guard as Alex and Daenerys settled in for the night.
