For the first time in a long time, Tony Stark stood in complete isolation.
Christine, who had been watching the entire exchange from the sidelines, allowed herself a satisfied smile.
The outcome was even better than she'd anticipated.
Without sparing another glance at the pitiful figure that was Tony Stark, she turned and walked away.
Billionaire? Genius?
He's nothing more than a naïve, immature little boy. A poor, pathetic child.
The thought brought a strange sense of contentment, a feeling that warmed her from the inside out.
Ah, there's nothing quite as satisfying as this.
….
Lemu noticed Stark hurrying out of the gala, his expression tense. It didn't take much for him to piece together what had happened.
Turning to Alice, he offered her a regretful smile.
"I've got something I need to take care of," he said softly. "We'll meet again, okay?"
Alice gave him a gentle hug in farewell, the delicate scent of jasmine lingering faintly in the air.
Lemu handed her the remaining half-bag of snacks, grinning.
"Thank you for helping me out earlier. These are for you."
Alice accepted the snacks with a smile, reaching out to ruffle his hair affectionately.
"Thank you, cutie. And next time, try not to get lost, okay?"
….
Before leaving, Lemu made a quick detour to the rooftop, where Pepper stood alone, leaning against the railing and staring out at the city lights.
The cool night wind ruffled her hair, her silhouette framed by the soft glow of the moonlight. There was a quiet loneliness in her posture, a faint melancholy that clung to the air around her.
Lemu approached her, his steps light but deliberate. He didn't mind helping Pepper out—after all, she and Stark were a perfect match in his eyes. If he could nudge them closer together, why not?
Part of him was even shipping them like a fan of a drama couple.
Standing beside her, he spoke casually.
"Tony asked me to tell you that he had to leave early. No need to wait for him."
Pepper blinked in surprise but quickly composed herself. She nodded and asked, "Did you have fun tonight? I didn't get a chance to check on you earlier."
Lemu smiled. "Yeah, I had a great time. But I've got something to take care of now, so I'll be heading out too. I'll have Happy come pick me up. You'll probably still be busy here, right?"
Lemu was in a hurry for a reason.
If his guess was right, Stark was about to head off to Afghanistan, ready to put himself in the middle of danger once again.
If he moved quickly, he might be able to tag along.
His primary objective?
To have Stark's back—to make sure the man didn't get himself killed.
His secondary objective?
Who could resist the chance to suit up and get into a real battle?
After all, the idea of facing enemies head-on in combat with high-tech armor was far too thrilling to pass up.
For a man, there are few things more important than the battlefields of love and war.
When Lemu returned to Stark's villa, the atmosphere was heavy.
In the quiet of the underground lab, Tony Stark was slumped on the couch, his eyes glued to the television.
The room was silent except for the low hum of the news broadcast and the faint, ragged sound of Stark's breathing.
The massive screen before him displayed a live report from Kamira, a small town in Afghanistan.
The footage was harrowing.
Refugees huddled together, their faces etched with despair. Gunfire crackled incessantly.
The camera panned across a bleak landscape of ruins and ash, the air thick with smoke and fire, while unidentified armed factions exchanged bullets amidst the wreckage.
Sparks erupted as bullets ricocheted off walls, a stark reminder of the peril faced by the cameraman—and the unimaginable despair of those living in such chaos.
The image shifted.
A familiar figure appeared on screen—the leader of the Ten Rings, the very man who had once held Stark captive.
He was as smug and composed as ever, puffing on a cigarette while casually holding a rifle. He stood amidst the devastation as if it were his kingdom.
Lemu stood quietly behind Stark, watching the broadcast for a few moments.
Finally, in a soft voice, he asked, "Are you going to go?"
Stark didn't turn around, his back remaining rigid. His face was obscured, but the weight of his emotions hung in the air.
For a long moment, there was only silence.
Then, in a low, muffled tone, Stark answered:
"Of course… I have to."
Some things in life simply cannot be ignored.
Some battles must be fought, and some ideals must be upheld.
For Stark, this was one of those moments—a call to action that could not be denied.

When Alice returned to her dormitory, it was already 1 a.m.
Her dorm was a small two-person room, shared with her friend and roommate, Nicole Nassir.
Inside, the room was quiet and dimly lit, save for Nicole's desk lamp.
Nicole was still awake, hunched over a pile of books. Clad in a thin robe, she was deeply engrossed in her studies. Beneath the robe? Absolutely nothing.
The sound of the door opening jolted Nicole from her intense focus. She whipped her head around, her dark eyes lighting up as if salvation had arrived.
"Alice! Alice! Get over here!" she squawked, waving her hand frantically like a drowning duck grasping at a lifeline.
"There's this problem I can't figure out! Please, you have to explain it to me!"
Alice slipped off her shoes and sighed, already anticipating this exact scenario.
She'd been working all night at her part-time job, and now, back in her dorm, she still couldn't catch a break.
It was the weekend, for heaven's sake! Couldn't Nicole let her rest?
Dragging herself to Nicole's desk, Alice let out an exaggerated sigh, loud enough to make sure Nicole heard it.
"Go to bed," Alice said flatly. "Do it tomorrow."
Nicole pouted, clutching her pen like a lifeline.
"But it's due Monday!"
Alice shook her head, giving Nicole a pointed look.
"And it's Sunday tomorrow. Plenty of time."
With that, Alice tossed her bag onto her bed, already planning to collapse into sleep.
Sometimes, dealing with Nicole felt like taking care of an overenthusiastic child.
