Chapter 6: Chapter 06: The Blaze in the Shadows
Chapter 06: The Blaze in the Shadows
The room was an unsettling mix of chaos and dread. Debris from the shattered ceiling lay scattered across the floor, mingling with the child's toys and books. The faint light of the night sky filtered through the jagged hole above, illuminating the scene with an ethereal glow. Stars twinkled faintly in the void above, their calm serenity contrasting sharply with the tension inside.
Sasuke stood in the center of the destruction, his short-sleeved blue shirt and gray shorts coated in a fine layer of dust. His sandals rested lightly on the cracked floor, his posture unnervingly relaxed. His dark eyes, cold and calculating, locked onto the man across the room.
The intruder was imposing despite his battered state. His suit, once immaculate, was now torn and dusty, revealing hints of his bronze-toned skin. His silvery-gray hair fell across his forehead, partially obscuring sharp, piercing gray eyes. The ethereal silver aura that had surrounded him earlier was now absent, as if he had withdrawn it deliberately.
In the corner, the child cowered, his small hands clutching at the wall as though it could shield him from the chaos. His wide, tear-filled eyes darted between Sasuke and the intruder. His voice was barely a whisper, shaky and full of fear. "Mama... Papa..."
The man's lips curled into a sneer as he broke the silence. "You… What's a brat like you doing chasing someone like me?" His voice was deep, laced with irritation and a hint of curiosity. "Who are you?"
Sasuke's expression remained stoic, his gaze never wavering. "Does it matter?"
The man raised an eyebrow, amused. "It might. Judging by your lack of a hero costume, you're no pro hero. Just a high school kid, aren't you?" He paused, then let out a sharp laugh. "Don't tell me… you're playing hero? That's rich."
Sasuke's silence only seemed to amuse him further. The man gestured broadly with his arms. "Don't you know the rules? No hero license means no using your quirk, kid. We're both criminals right now. So what's the point? You gain nothing from fighting me."
A faint smile tugged at the corners of Sasuke's lips. He tilted his head slightly, his neck cracking audibly as he closed his eyes for a moment. "You're right."
When he opened them, the atmosphere shifted. His once-dark irises were now a vivid red, with a single tomoe swirling menacingly in each eye. "But I'm not here for gain," he said coolly. "I'm here for fun."
The man's sneer turned into a grin. "Fun, huh? That makes things interesting." He chuckled, his gaze locking onto Sasuke's crimson eyes. "Those eyes of yours… they just changed color. Something tells me they'd fetch quite the price on the black market. Don't you think?"
Sasuke raised a hand, palm forward, silently inviting the man to attack. But even as he prepared for battle, his sharp ears caught the faint sound of footsteps approaching from the stairs below. The child's parents were coming, their worried voices growing louder.
Knowing he couldn't involve innocent civilians, Sasuke smirked and taunted his opponent. "Don't bother thinking about selling my eyes. This'll be the first and last time you ever see them."
The man's grin widened, his silvery hair shimmering as though caught in an unseen wind. His aura flared back to life, wrapping around him like a living entity. The room seemed to vibrate under its intensity. "Big words for a kid," he snarled, before vanishing in a blur of silver light.
With a crackling roar, the man reappeared directly in front of Sasuke, his fist already swinging upward in a devastating strike aimed at Sasuke's chin.
BAM!
The force of the blow sent Sasuke hurtling upward, his body smashing through the already damaged ceiling and into the open night sky. The man stood below, his grin triumphant. "That should've shattered his jaw," he muttered, before leaping into the air after Sasuke, his aura streaking like a comet behind him.
Down below, the door to the child's room burst open. The boy's parents rushed inside, their panicked eyes scanning the destruction. All they found was the thick dust settling in the air and their son trembling in the corner. The boy ran to them, sobbing uncontrollably.
Above, the fight continued. Sasuke hovered momentarily in mid-air, the stars casting a soft glow over his figure. His hands, positioned just below his face, showed faint signs of defensive bruising. The man's strike hadn't landed cleanly—Sasuke had intercepted it with his palms at the last moment.
The silver-haired man closed the distance quickly, his aura flaring brightly as he prepared another attack. But then he hesitated. Sasuke's face was calm, his lips parting slowly as he performed a series of hand seals with breathtaking speed.
The man's confidence faltered, replaced by confusion and unease. His sharp gray eyes focused on Sasuke's movements, noting every detail. The crimson glow of Sasuke's Sharingan seemed to burn brighter, reflecting in the man's silver irises like a warning light.
"What are you—"
Before he could finish, Sasuke inhaled deeply, his chest expanding like that of a dragon about to unleash its fury.
"Katon: Fireball Jutsu!"
Flames erupted from Sasuke's mouth in a massive sphere, their searing heat illuminating the entire neighborhood. The silver-haired man's eyes widened in shock as the fireball consumed him, its roaring inferno drowning out all other sounds.
The fiery attack crashed into the empty street below, scattering debris and leaving a charred crater in its wake. The man's body hit the ground with a thunderous impact, sending cracks spidering through the pavement. His silver aura flickered weakly before vanishing altogether.
Smoke and embers filled the air as the man groaned, his body pinned by the force of the blast. His mind raced, piecing together the events that had just unfolded. "I see… He let me hit him one more time to get me outside. Away from the civilians. This kid… he's no amateur."
He tried to lift his head, but a sharp, crackling sound froze him in place. The faint blue glow of electricity reflected in his wide, terrified eyes.
High above, Sasuke stood poised against the starry backdrop, his Sharingan now bearing two tomoe in each eye. In his left hand, a sphere of pure lightning danced wildly, its high-pitched chirping filling the night.
The wail of approaching sirens grew louder, but Sasuke's focus remained unwavering. With a sharp motion, he descended toward his opponent like a bolt of lightning.
"Chidori!"
The sound of the impact was deafening. The ground shattered beneath Sasuke's strike, leaving a deep crater mere inches from the man's head. The silver-haired criminal stared up at Sasuke, his fear palpable. The realization that Sasuke had deliberately spared him only deepened his terror.
"I… I surrender," the man stammered, his voice trembling.
As the blue sparks of Chidori faded from Sasuke's hand, the flashing lights of police vehicles illuminated the scene. Officers surrounded the fallen criminal, securing him with swift efficiency.
In the chaos, Sasuke slipped away, darting into the narrow alleys between houses. One officer raised his gun, but another stopped him. "Don't shoot! You might hit someone inside the houses."
The first officer lowered his weapon reluctantly. "Who was that? The guy in the blue shirt? He moved like a wild animal…"
Meanwhile, the silver-haired man sat silently in his restraints, a haunted look in his eyes. "Better to be arrested than face him again…" he muttered under his breath.
In the shadows of the alley, Sasuke's Sharingan faded, his eyes returning to their natural black. He exhaled slowly, his expression unreadable. "I got too involved in this mess," he murmured to himself. Then, with a faint smirk, he added, "I need to get home before dinner."
And with that, he disappeared into the night.
