Chapter 72: Fighting a Tyrant King
"That oughta change," said Cassius, his tone verging on sub-zero.
He stopped racing through the vast, empty desert, the air pressure carrying along with his movements blowing past his angled pose. The extreme winds whipped his hair into a wild frenzy, yet under the searing rays of sunlight beating down on him, his appearance only seemed to become ever more otherworldly.
However, in vast contrast to the radiance of the large sun hanging in the sky, Cassius's expression was akin to a sheet of impermeable ice. His equally chilling gaze fixated on the massive crowned draconic wyrm blazing through dozens of sand hills, its advance unstoppable.
It yawned its terrifyingly treacherous mouth to a degree where entire skyscrapers might just slip inside if the Gate weren't so barren.
It was under this very desolate atmosphere that Cassius released an icy cloud of breath, his sturdy figure settling into a deadly blade stance.
Rather than have Lilith extend into dozens of individual pieces, he had her retain her original form and even solidified her robustness, ensuring she was poignant enough to pierce through even the heavens above. Only after confirming the integrity of his trusted C+ Devil Blade did Cassius activate every useful Active Skill in his arsenal.
WAAA!
His body exploded outward in an aura that suffocated the vicinity, but due to his special nature as an unofficial awakened, that aura shrank back into him and disappeared. It was like it was never there to begin with, puzzling the charging Tyrant King.
However, seeing as it was a mere five sand hills away from swallowing the audacious human who dared to stop running, it ignored all the nonsense and shot forward, turning into a light blur itself!
Cassius's piercing blue eyes glazed over as he bent down low, then created a fragmented scabbard for Lilith. For this battle, he set aside his absurdly heavy Newbie Training Sword 3, putting all of his attention on the devastating move he was about to perform with the bloodthirsty Lilith.
Even while in full control of the Devil Blade's actions, Cassius could feel her insatiable bloodlust roll out in waves, seemingly wishing to consume everything in existence. Yet, when she fully entered the sheath made with a part of his Essence, all of her bloodlust and even her domineering presence vanished.
It wasn't gradual; it was like Lilith had actually left this plane of existence.
However, as the one with the closest connection to her, Cassius could feel every little bit of her surging power, all of which flowed through her sharp edges and into his physical form. She empowered him to a level that forcefully amplified the strength contained within his muscles, temporarily slingshotting his Strength and Endurance Stats past 240.
And though it wouldn't last long, he would take full advantage of the unexpected boons given by Lilith.
RUMBLE!!!
"Are you ready, Lilith?" asked Cassius as time seemed to momentarily freeze, the sun blotted out by an enormous blackhole-like mouth.
BZZZzzzzttt!!
Lilith would kill the wyrm!
Cassius faintly smiled, and in that same instant, he unequipped the last pieces of his Newbie 3 Equipment. With deathly cold eyes sparkling with unbridled electricity, he blurred through time and space.
To any onlooker, he really did look like he had teleported. Yet, with his countless laggy afterimages to prove otherwise, his unveiled speed exceeded all expectations!
Fwooop—!
Cassius phased out of the mouth that was about to trap him inside. He flashed above the regal draconic head of the Tyrant King, with his target being the large reptilian eye on the left side of its face.
Before it even had time to react, he plunged Lilith into the eye, then activated 'Bloodfire.' And then, going completely off script, he extended the Devil Blade's individual pieces, each one digging deep into the insides of the Tyrant King's head.
If given a second more, Cassius would have been able to melt the Tyrant King's brain to mush. But unfortunately, this monster was neither stupid nor slow. With an effulgent eruption of golden flames, it blurred backward, escaping the grim, bloody fate that awaited it.
At first, the Tyrant King squinted its injured eye, feeling immense pain. However, as if thanks to some miraculous divine ability, its eye rapidly healed itself and was quickly restored to the same condition as before.
Cassius narrowed his eyes at this sight. "It seems that you have a few cards up your sleeves…" He blinked, then vanished. "How troublesome."
He teleported in front of the Tyrant King's forehead, standing just between both of its massive slitted eyes. He aimed to do the same thing as before, this time successfully completing the attack.
But it was obvious that the Tyrant King would not fall for the same trick twice. Predicting his attack beforehand, it struck out with its exceptionally long, spiked flame tail.
Like a flaming skyscraper-sized sword, the Tyrant King's tail cut through the air. In the process of searing everything in its path, it gradually increased in size and intensity before nearing the tiny human.
Cassius dodged.
Yet the Tyrant King wasn't done; it swung the tail back around, but instead of striking, the tip of the tail opened up like a freshly blossomed flower. From within that tail emerged a source of golden light that became extraordinarily bright within an instant.
Cassius widened his eyes in slight surprise.
He hadn't expected the Tyrant King to discern his weakness so quickly. But with little time to think about how to evade a wide-range AOE laser attack, he took the bolder approach and dashed toward the beam. In little more than a hundredth of a second, he leaned toward the beam tail with sword in hand.
Lilith streaked forward, her fragmented pieces shooting out faster than the destructive beam could fire.
Lilith wrapped around the side of the tail, then Cassius flicked his wrist and severed a good chunk of it. The gathering beam of golden light was naturally interrupted, with the owner of said tail roaring in angered agony.
The human had to die! It would kill him!!!
