Infinite Evolution: My Idle Evolution System

Chapter 97: Facing the END

The last time that the Japanese participated in one of these World's End Raids, they lost the S-Rank Hunter, Static Baron. They also lost two other S-Rank Hunters in the past two years. If they were to send themselves in this time around, it was very likely that a few of them would not make it back alive.

What their Hunter Association Chairman was asking of them was basically suicide for the sake of "upholding peace."

Before any of the more temperamental Hunters voiced their opinions on this arrangement, a rugged man with wavy blonde hair stepped forward. He had stormy gray-blue eyes and a strong, weathered frame. His armor was sleek, adorned with lightning motifs, and often crackled with static electricity. Like Static Baron, he was also proficient in the lightning element, yet he also had skills related to the air element, making him a rare dual-element wielder.

As the "face" of the Japanese Hunters, Arden Stormcall naturally had to be the one to speak on behalf of everyone present.

"Chairman, sir, with all due respect, what you are asking six of us to do is to walk headfirst to our deathbeds. The world has demonstrated time and time again that this Gate is impossible to raid, so why must we keep on throwing lives away?"

The Chairman's brows furrowed; none knew what he was thinking.

After a tension-filled pause, he said, "If we do not prevent this Gate from evolving any further, then the world will undoubtedly meet its… END."

The S-Rank Hunters went painfully silent. They knew as well as their Chairman what would happen if the World's End Gate somehow managed to evolve past the Purple Rank. Its name was that for a reason, after all.

However, that didn't mean they were willing to throw away their lives for no reason. Even if they were all destined to die sooner or later, they would rather it occur later than sooner.

This was the nature of all living beings. The S-Rank Awakeners were no exception.

Arden, realizing the severity of the situation, cut through the silence. "Chairman, are there truly no other alternatives? No way for humanity to make it through this hurdle?"

"No," replied the Chairman, his tone serious. "If the World's End Gate evolves beyond the Purple Rank, then the world and humanity will fall. Yet, as opposed to the previous raids on this insurmountable mountain, we will be gathering more than just one or two S-Rank Hunters from each offshore country. Furthermore, we will be receiving additional reinforcements from all the countries that never bothered with the Gate before."

"Behemoths like America, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany, and nearly every single country in the world will be sending some of their strongest Hunters. Even the Mage Lord from Russia and the Dragon Slayer from China will be joining the raid. This is, in every sense of the word: Earth's Final Frontier."

"If we cannot succeed this time, even with hundreds of S-Rank Hunters to back us up, then the world has always been destined to fall. Our only option at that point will be to find our place among the stars…"

Kaida Drakenshield, a wielder of a dragon's power, narrowed her golden eyes at the mention of the Dragon Slayer. Yet they narrowed further when escaping the bounds of Earth was mentioned.

"Going to space…" Sylva Everwood, a manipulator of nature and lover of animals, also did not appreciate the Chairman's words. "Leaving Earth is not an option for me. My home is among the lush forests and verdant biomes of Mother Nature's loving embrace."

"I, too, do not support the notion of evacuating Planet Earth, if that is even possible," said Gideon Ironfist, a mountain-like man who also happened to harness the rocky elements. "The mountains on Earth are the best to climb. Being trapped in a metal doohickey in space is unacceptable!"

"I personally don't mind the idea of leaving Earth," added Rika Starforge, a short, spiky purple-haired woman with vibrant amber eyes. "Venturing into the great beyond sounds extremely exciting!"

"Of course you would say that," spat Ezekiel Frostbane, his disdain for the rowdy woman apparent in his expression. His snow-white hair and icy blue eyes shimmered in unison, seemingly agreeing with their owner. "If you want to go to space so badly, then go by yourself. Maybe you can find a star there that can reciprocate your feelings. And luckily for you, unlike humans on Earth, they can't think for themselves. Your chances aren't low."

Rika's feisty expression frosted over, nearly reaching the same level as the pretty boy Ezekiel. Twisting her frown, she asked, "Are ya looking for a fight, you damn snowfield twink…?"

"A… what?"

OOOM!!

The room was nearly crushed to dust because of the violent auras clashing against one another. Yet, before they could escalate the situation further, the Chairman erupted forth with a killing intent that immediately stopped both of them.

'Strong…' The two S-Rank Hunters thought in unison. 'His strength hasn't diminished one bit with old age…'

"Quit the nonsense," ordered the Chairman, his tone non-negotiable. "We are here to discuss who among the six of you will join the World's End Gate Raid, not who among you has the biggest pair of balls. Now, discuss among yourselves and decide who will be going and who will be staying. I don't care how you choose, but you have six minutes… starting now."

Viola Voidweaver and Luna Astra, the quietest and most perceptive ones among the group, noticed something else bothering the Chairman. It was clearly something he wasn't willing to disclose, but there was definitely something wrong.

Luna immediately began calculating anything she found feasible, yet everything ended up not coming out right.

Luna was a slender woman with silver hair that flowed like liquid moonlight. She has glowing pale blue eyes and porcelain skin. Moreover, she wore a flowing white cloak that shimmered under any light.

Yet, her entire appearance was merely there to communicate her faith in the Goddess of the Moon, who was said to reside beyond the heavens above...
