INTO A MAGICAL WORLD

Chapter 10: decay

The weight of the revelation hangs heavy in the air, a palpable sense of urgency replacing the previous, unsettling quiet. Analamuk, sensing your resolve, sits attentively at your side, his emerald eyes reflecting the flickering candlelight. You close your eyes, the chilling feeling of the encroaching decay still lingering at the edges of your consciousness. You reach out, not to the unseen entity this time, but to the world itself, allowing the raw magical energy to flow through you, seeking the source of the corruption. It's a delicate process, a careful probing, feeling for the subtle distortions in the world's magical fabric.

The energy pulses, a discordant hum against the usually harmonious rhythm of Authios. The corruption is diffuse, spread thinly across the land, but there are points of higher concentration, nodes of decay that pulse with a more potent, malignant energy. Focusing your senses, you begin to trace the threads of this corruption, following the subtle distortions, the whispers of decay that snake through the world's natural energies. They lead, surprisingly, not to some dark, secluded place, but to a seemingly ordinary location: the High Empire itself. Not all of it, of course, but a specific section – a previously unrecorded area, sealed off from the rest of the city, radiating a potent, sickening energy.

It is not an open wound, but a festering abscess within the heart of the supposedly shining civilization. It's a hidden place, shrouded in secrecy, a place where even the unseen entity's observation seems… hesitant, almost fearful. A wave of unease washes over you; this isn't merely decay; it is something far older, something far more sinister than you could have imagined. You open your eyes, the candlelight dancing in their depths. Analamuk lets out a soft mew, as if sensing the gravity of your discovery.

This seemingly impenetrable heart of the empire holds the key to understanding, and potentially reversing, the encroaching decay. The path to the source is perilous, and possibly, more dangerous than anything you've faced so far. The decision, however, is clear.
