CH 19 - Day 25 of Spring
25th Day of Spring
A minimap worth 500 gold had been opened. Now, around 500 gold was the amount one could earn just by breathing, so it was worth investing in anything that would be helpful in exploration.
A small minimap had appeared in the bottom right when looking at the UI. Something had appeared vaguely in the corner of my vision—a structure that overlooked the entire village.
I could see where I was and the surrounding terrain in real time. It turned out to be more useful than I had thought. I believed that with something like this, there would be no need to get lost while exploring.
A pleasant pain had tingled the morning. Mining had finally reached intermediate level 5. The battles I had mastered so far in the mines seemed to have added up, and the battles rose to Intermediate Level 2. And there was an encouraging fact: I had ended up reaching level 1 in beginner cooking.
In the meantime, I had tried grilling meat and making various things to try something new, and it had some effect.
Growing up was a really good feeling. When experiences and memories I hadn’t known about seeped into me and the actions became like instincts engraved in my body, the feeling was so strange that it couldn’t be expressed in words. In an instant, I had become an expert and something more.
I pressed my hand to escape the feeling of the blanket and mattress that I was slowly becoming accustomed to. A glass of cool water to wake up in the morning had now become a routine.
It was labor time. When the sky mixed gray and dawn, and when that dusky light shimmered on the horizon.
I bent down, squatted, and started planting the seeds. Since I had enough money, I decided to stop harvesting crops for the time being. It was all going to be valuable experience points, but it would have been very sad if I had harvested it while it was blocked and the experience points flew into thin air.
Since I planned to experiment and experience a lot of things that day, I had about 2 hours’ worth of seeds. I had only purchased about 1500 seeds. The sun rose and shone brightly, signaling the end of my morning work.
My level 1 cooking experience and memories assisted my skills. Even so, it was only level 1. Nothing changed dramatically, but just being at the starting line was quite enjoyable.
The taste of the dish hadn’t changed or improved much. Although no minor buffs were created, I decided to place significance on the fact that the possibility had arisen. My consistent actions had paid off.
Most people did not even know about the existence of the Sky Dew fruit, which I had asked about out of curiosity. In an age without an information source like the Internet, it might not have been easy to know about the existence of these crops. I shook off the regretful feeling that it might kill me and headed to the mine.
The purpose was to dig up the remaining 30 mithril ores and return. I went into a musty mine, carried a pickaxe on my back, and worked hard to dig up ore. Nowadays, mining minerals seemed like an easy task because there were so many ores that shattered when struck. Was mining this easy? A sense of growth came from places like this.
If I hit it with a pickaxe, it felt like it was going to collapse on its own. Except for mithril, I didn’t even hear the thumping sound very often. Just tapping it would break everything.
Mining 30 mithril ores was easy. In fact, it took longer to get to the mid-20th floor.
As situations arose where I had to go to deep or distant places, warp devices tended to come to mind. This was the same for this expedition, and future dungeons and mines would be the same.
An item worth 20,000 gold—a warp device.
This mode literally allowed me to install a warp device wherever I wanted. The downside was that making a warp device wasn’t free. It didn’t really matter because I just had to dig up the ingredients and make it.
The important thing was that when I made it, the time to travel from home to another place was drastically reduced.
Mine. Exploration. In short, a beach or lakeside.
I didn’t have 20,000 gold at that moment, and even if I had it, it would have been difficult to use it all. Since I was in the midst of expansion and growth, it was too risky to go all-in on Warp for convenience. What’s more, I didn’t even know what ingredients it might ask for. If I bought it and didn’t use it, I might die of resentment.
There wasn’t anything in particular to consider, but it was enough to just keep it in mind. Next time something like this happened again, I would put it on the priority list of modes I wanted to unlock first when I had time.
As I worked hard mining, it was almost afternoon. Raindrops greeted me as soon as I came out of the mine. The rain falling gently was quite pleasant.
If it was going to rain, I would have preferred it in the morning. Then I wouldn’t have had to water the crops.
I never thought much about rain, but as I farmed, I started thinking about it in relation to crops. People say that people think in relation to their situation and the situation around them, and that was perfect.
Raindrops fell one by one on my already wet body. Feeling a damp weight, I hurried my steps home. Now that I thought about it, I might have left the window open, so I had to go quickly before the rain filled the house. As anyone would say, flooding the house was an absolute no-no.
I went home in one step, almost like running. Before I knew it, the rainwater that had accumulated on the floor was hitting my ears with a lapping sound.
The house I rushed to was in perfect condition. The wind wasn’t strong, so there was just a quiet shower of raindrops hitting the window. Relieved by that fact, I closed the window from the outside.
I gathered a change of clothes and stood in front of the production table. The melting furnace was already vigorously melting mithril ore. Once the mithril ingot was created, sprinklers were planned to be manufactured—5 as of that day. A sprinkler large enough to cover the entire field was completed.
Ready for adventure. The preparatory stage of preparation had finally been completed.
I stared blankly at the melting furnace making a humming sound, melting the ingots. The sound of rain hitting the floor irregularly was very nice.
That unique earthy smell when it rained. Enjoying the smell of rain that humans could best smell, I began making mithril sprinklers. Five sprinklers were finally completed. I was able to smile only after filling all five sprinklers with water.
“Under.”
Assuming that I didn’t plant seeds or harvest, I no longer needed to do morning farming work. I guessed this was why people looked for convenience. It was so strange that the human mind felt so relieved just by being free from work.
Less than a month had passed since I promised to live hard. How could I be this happy about not working hard?
I laughed at that slight gap and left the house. My clothes were already soaked, and I enjoyed the cool surroundings.
Although the rainy environment was very unfortunate, I also thought it had a romantic feel in its own way. If I had to sleep in a rainy situation someday, today would be the day to prepare for it.
It was fortunate that camping tents were sold in stores. Medieval tents that weren’t made by systems were unreliable products.
There was nothing special to do. Spare time. It was too early to go to sleep.
The thing to do at times like this was fishing. Just mindlessly lining up the float and absent-mindedly catching a fish. I had been living a busy life for a while without even having time to enjoy this kind of leisure.
“Let’s go to the lake.”
I took my silver fishing rod and retraced my steps in the rain. The destination was a lake. Lush forest. The green leaves became an umbrella and blocked raindrops. The sound spreading from the sky added its own charm.
Originally, I wasn’t a fan of rainy weather. I thought things would be a little different that day. If there hadn’t been sprinklers, I wouldn’t have liked rainy weather more. The rain was 100 out of 100 in that there was no need to water.
It had been a while since I picked up a fishing rod. The feeling was still the same. Its sharp, unique senses alerted me to good places. I threw the float as instructed and waited leisurely.
I sat down on the chair Anne had given me as a gift and enjoyed some leisurely time. Time passed quickly as I caught the bouncing fish little by little and put them in the bag.
The treasure chest also came out well. What came out was miscellaneous, or at best something like silver or iron ingots, but it was nice to see something extra appear.
The best things I had ever gotten were a level 29 longsword and level 33 chain armor. I guessed it was because I wasn’t expecting a guy who could surpass these two. I felt much more at ease. Gacha was just a hobby for fun and trying to get lucky.
Looking at things like this, I thought I had adapted well to this world in less than a month. Did my constitution suit me? Was the system guiding me well? I didn’t know what it was, but it was fun to live in. Because it was more fun to pioneer something yourself and live a life than to be led along a dull life.
Although it was a huge failure in terms of the healing that was originally intended, well, if you looked at things other than healing, living here wasn’t bad.
The rain showed no sign of stopping. There was no need to worry about acid rain because pure water was just dripping down.
Interestingly, the UI also provided this information. Although it was unkind, it had a kind side.
The day was already dark. It was slowly getting closer to the time when I had to sleep outside. Washing was roughly solved with water from the lakeside.
Setting up a tent wasn’t that difficult. I guessed it was because my skills had improved and my senses had become quicker. It was really an instant to put up the stakes and unfold the tent.
The nicely laid-out green camping tent was large enough for me to get into and sleep in. I went in, changed my clothes, and looked inside. A tent spread out without much in common.
I set up each item that came with the camping tent inside. A sleeping bag and a foldable cot in case the floor was uncomfortable. A lantern that emitted a small light. Simple cooking tools.
I roughly cooked a meal, washed the dishes, and cleaned up. Here, I tested in advance what I would do almost the same way when I went on an expedition. It was a little uncomfortable, but still acceptable.
The sound of rain hitting the tent on my tired body. I closed my eyes and slowly fell asleep to the quiet white noise provided by nature.
“Uh…?”
I had no dreams.
It was morning when I woke up. I was able to wake up feeling refreshed without the pure white room that greeted me from the system. The only thing that gently warmed my head was the UI that told me I had reached fishing level 8.
The morning of the 25th day of spring. For the first time since coming to this world, I had been able to sleep soundly without dreaming.
It was a sweet morning. As always, my condition in the morning was excellent, but I felt better just because I had gotten a good night’s sleep. It might have been because of my mood, but being in a good mood also played a role in my physical condition.
Of course, apart from the good feeling, convenience was a separate matter to consider. If you went outside, you couldn’t use the system. In the end, there were more things to take with you and prepare.
This meant that you should prepare for two weeks in advance by putting all the items in a bag. It was good to know from prior experience.
I put the tent, lightly covered with morning dew, in my bag. All camping supplies were also packed away. The bag was so convenient that it somehow fit inside the bag no matter the size. This meant that I could just fold the tent and put it in my bag without having to organize it neatly.
Just in case, I took out the tent—a tent that came out in its unfolded state.
The pleasant convenience brought a smile to my face. I was just happy that I had less time to bother with tent pitching and all. All I had to do was take it out of the bag and a simple house was created in no time.
“This is good.”
Putting my gear in, I headed home. All preparations for the expedition had been completed. Now all that was left to do was actually leave.
Before that, I didn’t forget to stop by and say hello to the villagers. It was a village where I would live for a long time, but it would be better to say I was going and then leave, rather than just leave and come back and say I had been there.
Returning home from the lake, I wondered if it was because I had slept near water and my body was filled with moisture without me knowing it, or if it was simply because it rained a lot.
I didn’t know why, but my breathing felt watery. I tried to shake off that awkward feeling and returned home.
Facing me were five sprinklers running hard and the ground moist. The moist soil spread evenly throughout the crops, putting my mind at ease. Long live the sprinkler.
“I guess I can really leave like this.”
I nodded, acknowledging that all preparations were complete.
Lastly, I checked the amount of water in the sprinkler. There was enough water left to last for about 15 days. I filled it with water again. Coming back in 2 weeks—that was the goal.
As soon as I finished saying hello to the villagers, I planned to leave. The location was fixed—East.
Continue east.
Fairy Farm. In order to reach advanced level 1 farming, I went to get Sky Dew fruit.
