Chapter 979 The winning class
[Eon's POV: ]
The twelve classes had created a masterpiece that was made while following the certain criteria set for a masterpiece's recognition.
They were complete in all manners, there was nothing to add to them, and there was nothing that one could take away to make it better than what it already was.
The 'project' that we had created, be it the big mountain-like floating island replica, or the unique painting created by our fellow friends was complete in all aspects.
In addition to that, it was also following a natural theme that represented some elements of a mortal's life.
'The criteria for a masterpiece was very specific, however if one looked at it subjectively, it was also vague.'
For something to be a masterpiece, it had to be complete in all aspects of its own design and functionality, it had to be attractive for not just the creator but also almost anyone who look at it, it had to be unique from other creations of its kind by at least thirty or more percent, and it had to have something attached to it.
That something could be anything from a personal experience, something related to the creators' past, something one wished to represent, or something one wanted to experience.
'And even if there were these criteria, they had to make sure that they created something that would make a unique appeal to the audience.'
A masterpiece wasn't a masterpiece because it was complete or because it was made to be eye catching.
What made a masterpiece a masterpiece, essentially, was the individual difference of the experience that one experiences while looking at these things.
'Simply taking example of Quinn's class' Bee sculpture that they had created purely out of elemental energy, one can understand just how a simple bee that was merely a little bigger than the tree that Zoe's class had created could contain so many details that it could refresh unique memories for various people.'
They had made this unique sculpture out of elemental energy, shaped it with the help of various elemental spirits and creatures, and they had used various projection devices in the creation process.
It was a complicated creation by a simple angle of creation, but it was not that complicated when one thought about it as simply a big blue bee flying around a certain area created by them.
It was not just a honeybee, but a perfect energy projection that recreated the exact Cerulean Apis that we could see in the garden practically any day.
'They were an inseparable part of this garden, of Sir Quesnel, and this academy.'
They maintained the entire ecosystem of this place so they were so important that a mage student would look at this structure of theirs as something that they had studied intensively. While a knight student might remember how they would have fought these creatures on some occasions.
There might be various kinds of memories resurfacing in the individuals who had encountered these creatures, and even for the people who had never seen or come across these beings, just seeing this model would create a unique feeling of belonging in their heart.
'Their creation created a positive belonging with these dangerous looking yet adorable and important creatures of this garden.'
While on the other hand, ones looking at our own island replica would experience various kinds of emotions as well.
'Awe, excitement, curiosity, interest in the creatures present on the large island that we had created… it was a replica of the island in its primal state, and one looking at it closely would be able to tell that instantly.'
It was also a floating structure that people could see from various angles thanks to the levitating platforms we had set in this observation area.
"What do you think?"
"The competition's going to be tough."
All the classes had created a masterpiece of their own that had various elements that one could not simply replicate or correct.
These things, these places created by the classes, and these special elements were unique. And all of them had worked tirelessly for the completion of these things.
"They'll start the vote counting now."
"Yeah. Look at everyone. They're nervous."
Not just the students, but the teachers in charge of these students, the parents who had come for the festival, the children who were with them, and others who wanted a certain creation to win were praying for the victory of their chosen creations.
They didn't have the voting rights this time since our seniors and the special judges invited by the headmaster, the disguised members of the committee that organised the Grand conference, were the only ones who could vote for these masterpieces, and the headmaster and the vice headmaster were here as well.
They would have a vote of their own that would be different from the normal vote of the others.
'Their votes would be half a vote more than the others, and though it might seem small, in a close competition, even that half vote would play a big role.'
So, there's still a chance that the rankings would not be as any of us had expected.
{ "Shall we start the counting, everyone?" }
The votes were gathered in a box in the middle of all of the models.
All the judges were given one certain piece of paper where they had to give their votes to a certain class' work that they liked the most, liked not too much but also not too less as well as the workers that they liked the least.
{ "Alright then." }
Since they weren't saying anything about any of the masterpieces being best or worst and were only giving individual rankings, there wasn't going to be any problems ranking the works at the end.
And since they were masterpieces that were meant to induce diverse emotions and feelings in an individual, the votes were going to be different.
'Counting would be done through Sir Quesnel's help and the headmaster's magic. So, the final rankings were going to be quite simple compared to the individual rankings.'
We had put aside all the stuff about those damned cult bastards for now, so for the time being, we were going to enjoy the thrill of finding out which class was the winner of this competition with our classmates.
"Who will win, who will win, who will win…" Tia was being anxious, but Quin and others around her were finding it funny as usual.
This was the first time the classes were competing against one another, but it was not the last time.
There were certainly going to be more chances where the classes and the class teachers go against one another in various situations, but this was the start of that long standing tradition to be the Best class of a certain batch.
{ "Let us see which class the judges have chosen this time around." }
-Ooooooooooooong!
Every individual was different with different views and the people who were invited as the judges this time, our seniors included, were also the same.
They wouldn't have paid attention to one another when ranking the works since they knew how this worked, and since they were judges, they had to rank all the works with not just their personal preferences, but under the main criteria set for this competition: its relation with the academy and the founders. Experience tales at empire
"Oho?"
As soon as the vote calculation began inside the special box that was being guided by the magic of the headmaster, a screen half as large as our island model appeared before all of us.
Then, in an ascending order, the ranks of the classes started appearing on the screen starting with class F that had made the treasure egg representing an unborn child with unlimited potential.
Then there was class G, then class C, Class D, then class B surprisingly, then class K, Class J, Class E… and then, Class H, a big surprise to all of us.
It was quite a simple order to what we had expected, but Class C being so far behind was a surprise since Master Brok's shield was nothing less than anything else among the models.
Still…
[3. Class L.]
The top three was what everyone had been looking forward to since the start anyway.
And, though it was only by a very, very small margin perhaps…
"Yes…!"
[2. Class A.]
[1. Class I.]
We came out victorious.
[{ "Congratulations, big brother~." }]
And as if she knew this was going to happen, she congratulated me as soon as the results were displayed on the large screen before us.
She wasn't sad that her class didn't get the first spot, she had worked hard to finish this piece so she at least wanted to win so that I could be proud of her.
But, it was a close competition.
{ "Both the beauty of the Ancient oak's representation and the representation of the island's unique Start were an amazing masterpiece unmatched by anything we had seen." }
The headmaster looked at both the classes and the class teachers of those classes with profound appreciation.
{ "However, the base was set by the nature, and only then the Masters created everything that exists here." }
Her model of sir Quesnel was superior in all aspects, it was a one of a kind masterpiece that will never be recreated in any form better than this one.
But we were dedicating these models to not only the seniors who have already graduated, but to the creators who had taken interest in this random floating piece of land as well.
The victory was decided because of the concept, but still… every single person who knew about how both the headmasters had given their votes to her class would how amazing their creation actually was.
'It was amazing, even without the appraisal of the message that she had hid inside of it for me. And for the people who would be able to find it sometime in the future…'
