Chapter 999: A battle won, a battle lost
[Rein's POV: ]
His first unique enchanted arrow was destructive, while the second one was a trap that didn't work so he used that arrow and shot it in some other direction.
'The arrow vanished, and then didn't appear for a long time.'
I don't know why he had done that since the arrow had not appeared even until now… but there was definitely some kind of secret motive behind doing that.
He must have done that to create some kind of distraction, or to trick Zoe into thinking that it was some unique kind of attack which he had used with either his 'card' skill that he most definitely activated when shooting the arrow, or to actually make some kind of unique attack.
'I don't really know what he did with that second arrow, but he had been making those strange techniques with his mentor, sir divine archer, so this might also be related to that.'
Whatever it may be, the arrow had not appeared even to this point so I doubt it was going to appear anymore.
'That was that, but right after he used that skill and threw that arrow high into the sky, their fight became a lot more intense then what it was previously.'
Zoe got on the offensive as she started using the attack enactment artifacts that she had tried to close the distance between them.
She was using multiple artifacts at once so many of the students from magic and magic engineering department were paying a close attention to her, many of them even admiring her skills and abilities.
'The way she used her artifacts was unbelievable, the fact that she even had that many artifacts concerned people since many of them weren't something she had made here but something she was taking out from her subspace.'
Only a few kinds of weapons were allowed on this battlefield but the number of weapons that one could use was never specified. And the artifacts were also counted in these weapons.
'The main reason Eon took down Carla was also because of the skill that she had.'
She was perhaps the only one in this world that carried around more than ten thousand swords with her. And that was just the estimated number.
I don't even think she knows how many swords she actually has since she had been collecting all kinds of swords from all around the world whenever she saw one.
'If not ten thousand, she at least has a few thousand swords in her unique weapon storage, I definitely know that much since she once created a pile of swords to check how many swords she actually had, only to end up stopping somewhere around two thousand.'
That girl had so many swords that she could arm an army if she wanted. And the swords that we were talking about here weren't all simple swords made by simple beginner blacksmiths, she obviously was a threat that he couldn't ignore.
'She will be upset, but if he thought her as dangerous enough to take her out along with people like Hide and Luna, then she should actually be somewhat happy about her progress.'
Without the skills and brains to use all those weapons, she wouldn't have been any threat but he knew she knew how to use her skill now.
He had taught her himself, so, on a battlefield where they had to fight with specific weapons, the swords that were the simplest kind of weapon that was almost allowed in most of the battles would be a bigger threat to the opponents than
Carla perhaps realised.
'It's a good thing that he took her out with… I don't know what that was but whatever it was, it was amazing!'
It wasn't a conventional ball barrel shooting gun. It shot Aura, and that to a distance that was pretty unprecedented.
He could definitely shoot some of his enchanted arrows to that kind of distance if he used some of his Aura and spell enchantments, but doing it simply with strength would require his special long range shooting technique, and perhaps that might be insufficient for that kind of distance.
'Whatever that weapon was, it was amazing. And it did its work.'
He defeated some threatening opponents, and thanks to him, Quin became vulnerable enough.
'I defeated her, and took out my darling bitch Ezra.'
He defeated Prince Alph and captain Alpha who had defeated Ball who had defeated Chry, so that was a good game right there.
'Now…'
The last enchanted arrow that he used had a spell on it that made it foggy all around them.
It was a magical fog, but I can see through it thanks to my eyes.
Some of the others could see through it as well, but even if others might think that it was going to be ineffective against Zoe who had artifact glasses to see through these kinds of things, it actually was effective against her.
'No one else aside from me and Vice headmaster understood what this fog was actually and how it was not something that one should possess.'
Made from a unique substance that would look like a simple fog when pressured out into a gracious form, it was in fact something that affected senses of those beings that had a unique threshold when it came to sensory perception.
'This unique substance made it impossible for uniquely strong individuals like Zoe or vice headmaster to perceive pretty much anything around them for a certain duration.'
This was a simple fog that could not be affected by the strong winds or something that was not related to anything in their environment but was directly merging with the Mana particles around them.
He had specifically chosen this for her, so no one but she was being affected by this fog. And, he took advantage of it.
'Eon attacked her, but she blocked it somehow, so he knew even that fog wasn't really that effective…'
Still, it had done what he needed at that point- it had given him enough time to process his last attack, something that was completed by the time the fog vanished.
So, now, the fog was vanishing.
And, Zoe was standing with her eyes locked on Eon… while Eon…
"Hmmm?"
"What?"
"…?!"
"Is… is that…!"
While Eon was facing her with something quite unique in his hands.
'That bastard.'
His hair was black, but his Aura, which he had changed with the help of Celes' skill, looked blackish blue to the others.
It was something they had seen a few times already so they didn't think much about it.
However, what surprised them, as well as me, as well as the teachers that were seeing us right now… was the fine threads that he had created with his Aura.
"Thanks for the great fight, Captain." He smiled at her, a smile that was genuinely thankful for her help that she didn't even know she was giving him.
'He technically used her for his own little scheme, again.'
That bastard…
In his hand, he was holding a spell circle.
A rough, but, a usable spell circle that was created not with Mana, but with Aura- the chaotic power of destruction that was Only Rarely ever used in the creation of spells.
'For a first year academy student, even if they were from this great institution, it was unheard of for them to use a spell created with Aura at this stage.'
Not only was it HIGHLY straining on the caster, since Aura came from the depths of mind and not from a solid source like Mana that gathered in the energy nucleus, this entire process was highly stressful.
'Well, for a simple human being, it would definitely be very difficult, but I have seen that bastard use Aura spells many times already.'
But, that was when he used it as Eon. Not as Lucifer.
This was the first time he was using it as Lucifer… a pure archer that could not use Mana At All.
"He succeeded…"
In the eyes of the students who had only seen him as someone who was cursed with an impeccable memory, a body that prevented him Having Mana, and someone who had affinity for all six elements and as someone who wanted to be a Magic archer.
'This was the first time he was using a magic spell, his first step to the Stage 'he' wanted to reach.'
Ultimately though, all of this was bullshit.
The spell that was released from his Aura circle was a strong arrow of fire that was so destructive that it created another big crater right behind Zoe, but he wasn't trying to avoid the shot.
'She avoided the attack right when it was about to hit her and moved a little to save herself.'
However, right when she did that, a strange arrow somehow came out of nowhere and pierced right through her head…
'That bastard.'
She disappeared instantly, but, before she disappeared, there was an expression of joy on her face. Not disappointment, not anger, but pure joy.
"Good one… Vice captain."
Those were her last words before she vanished.
Those were her last words before she lost against him.
And, right before her disappearance, he also fell to the ground, a fountain of blood gushing out of his mouth, eyes, and, from the deep wound that Zoe had somehow made right before she disappeared.
"Lucifer…!"
It was a lethal attack.
"Good one… ahem! You… ahem! Too… captain…"
He also disappeared by the time I reached him. Enjoy exclusive chapters from empire
However, since not many had seen the flesh wound on him, they did not know whether he died because of Zoe, or because of the Aura spell that he had just used.
'It was complicated… but, well, Zoe died, and she was the captain. So, it was their loss.'
Her team was disqualified, and we took the centre stage as well as the victory in this battle however… that became irrelevant.
'Eon used a spell with Aura.'
This simple news was going to spread like wildfire pretty soon.
That much every single student who had directly witnessed that spell knew for certain.
