Chapter 107 - III
After doing all the bad things the night before, there wasn’t much water left in the house.
Jing Xingzhi had thought he would take on the heavy responsibility, so he got up early the next day.
The first thing he did when he got up was to cover his son’s mouth and take him out to satisfy his needs.
When Little Ah Deng freed himself, he shouted, and the servants brought goat milk.
Jing Xingzhi held Little Ah Deng in his arms and nursed the baby. While feeding the milk, he murmured to his son, “You weren’t very good last night, son. You woke up in the middle of the night and scared your father to death.”
“Ah?”
Little Ah Deng, who had been drinking milk, took the time to respond to his father, not knowing what he had done the previous night.
“Forget it, forget it,” Jing Xingzhi said helplessly. “I already knew why you called me. It turned out that it wasn’t the river lights that were so beautiful that night, but your destiny—destined to be inseparable from the lights.”
The little light bulb was no ordinary light bulb, it was his own little lamp (Deng}.
But for his own son, even if the night was exceptionally bright, he could only grit his teeth and keep it.
The child had been sleeping a lot. After Jing Xingzhi finished feeding, Ah Deng spit out two milk-flavoured bubbles and closed his eyes, falling asleep after a while.
Jing Xingzhi wrapped the child up and put him in the crib next to the bed, so that everyone in the room could sleep peacefully.
After finishing worrying about his son, Jing Xingzhi quickly washed up. After washing up, he changed into clean official uniforms and took the capable Brother Zhuang with him to go out to work.
Wang Zhuang had followed him to Dingbei, but Shu Niang had returned to Hanbei Prefecture. So, Brother Zhuang was alone again, which was quite lonely when he thought about it.
Before arriving at the government office, Jing Xingzhi rode on his horse and expressed condolences to Wang Zhuang: “Brother Zhuang, did you sleep well last night?”
However, Wang Zhuang had slept in the room next door. He was a martial arts practitioner with keen senses and had heard everything last night.
Wang Zhuang looked at Jing Xingzhi with cold eyes.
…Was he still human?
“It’s good.” Brother Zhuang swallowed the bitterness of missing his little wife.
“That’s good.” Jing Xingzhi patted Brother Zhuang on the shoulder. “Sister-in-law said that she would come to see you in a while, so you don’t have to miss her for too long.”
This was a human saying. Wang Zhuang nodded and said, “She said three months, not much long.”
It had taken them a long time to rush from the capital to Dingbei. The first three months really didn’t feel long.
Jing Xingzhi couldn’t help but smile as he watched the tough guy, Brother Zhuang, turn into a countdown in one second.
Even though he was as steely as iron, he was still soft around his wife’s fingers.
Wang Zhuang seemed to feel that this smile provoked him.
He said, “Young Master Jing, please feed Ah Deng another time. It’s not good to go to work smelling like milk.”
“No way? I fed Ah Deng and changed my clothes! These are the new clothes I changed afterward.”
Jing Xingzhi raised his sleeves and smelled it; he had stayed with little Ah Deng all day long and couldn’t smell anything on his body.
Those who were close to vermilion turned red, and those who were close to ink turned black. If it smelled close to milk, he should be able to smell it.
Jing Xingzhi raised his head and looked at Wang Zhuang with disbelief. “Brother Zhuang, is it true?”
Wang Zhuang nodded. “Yes.”
“But Liu Fang had to sleep more the morning.” Jing Xingzhi was troubled.
Walking to the door of the government office, Jing Xingzhi finally thought of a good idea. “Brother Zhuang, come and feed Ah Deng tomorrow. If you hold the baby more, you can have a baby sooner!”
Wang Zhuang wanted to say no, but he was a little tempted.
As for his little baby, it wasn’t good to look like him, but it was better to look like the little wife.
Wang Zhuang nodded and bargained. “Feed in turns.”
“Good.”
The two husbands thought they had solved the problem, but they never forgot about the “smell of milk on their bodies.” They both thought that the smell of milk came from holding the milk bowl and being close to the source of milk.
.
After talking and laughing, Jing Xingzhi entered through the main entrance of the government office.
There were people everywhere in the government office, and the accompanying officials were all experienced people who were used to fighting all kinds of “big battles.” They were responsible for several places in an orderly manner and arranged them.
Jing Xingzhi went to sign in, and then received a note from Wang Zikai.
With this note, he could pick up the water truck, find a few water sellers who were familiar with the route, and then set off to transport water.
Previously, selling water had been a lucrative job in Dingbei. Even if they paid a lot of money, they would still have a lot left over.
However, since the city was closed, water sellers had been unable to leave the city and had lost their income. With no way out, many people were spending their days at home.
Several water sellers were overjoyed when they heard someone asking them to go out of the city to transport water.
“Sir, could we leave the city now?”
Jing Xingzhi shook his head. “You couldn’t leave the city privately just yet. Once Mr. Wang had finished handling the affairs in the city, he would open the city.”
Education would have to wait until Wang Zikai completely divided the foreigner races. Even if the foreigner army came by then, there would be no trouble in Dingbei City. The city walls were tall, easy to defend, but difficult to attack, so there would be no worries.
After listening to Jing Xingzhi’s words, many people hoped that Mr. Wang would work quickly and open the city gate early.
The water seller also knew what was going on and obediently led Jing Xingzhi and the others out of the city.
Jing Xingzhi rode a tall horse and followed the team out of the city.
He was walking at the back of the team, looking at the vast area, all yellow and brown, not the grassland scene he had imagined at all.
Jing Xingzhi asked, “When will the grass outside regrow and be green…?”
A water seller smiled and replied, “Sir, it hadn’t rained much this year. When it rained again, everything would be green again!”
Jing Xingzhi asked again, “With the city so short of water, are there more wells outside?”
This question made the water seller grimace. “Your Excellency, you don’t know. We used to have water in Dingbei City, but we had used it a lot over the years, so the water is very scarce now. If the wells and rivers outside are not connected to a big river, how much water could there be?”
“That’s right. People thought it was easy to earn money by selling water. In fact, we ran around all day, working from morning to night, and the money we earned was not much.” Another water seller began to complain.
Jing Xingzhi, curious, opened his spiritual energy and used his eyes to see the outside of the city.
The yellow-brown atmosphere lingered on the surface, and beneath the ground, a shallow layer of green beat, like a vitality that was ready to go.
Further down, the green colour took up most of the space. And each water source with a blue-green colour was pitifully oppressed by grey-brown, like a poor little daughter-in-law.
It seemed… there really wasn’t much water.
Jing Xingzhi looked far away and could see the edge of the mountain, but he didn’t see any long water veins.
Jing Xingzhi felt disappointed. After crossing the mountain, it would be far away. It was inconvenient to use the water veins that were so far away.
Seeing that he was distracted, Wang Zhuang raised his hand and patted Jing Xingzhi on the shoulder, fearing that he would fall off the horse.
Jing Xingzhi sighed inwardly and turned back while withdrawing his true spiritual energy.
But before all the energy had been withdrawn, Jing Xingzhi brought it back and looked at the long blue stripe behind Wang Zhuang, grinning.
He was wrong.
He didn’t have mountains and rivers in his name, so he wasn’t fated to find any water on his own.
Look at his good Brother Wang, one after another, wasn’t he just attracting water?
Wang Zhuang looked at the giggling Jing Xingzhi and felt a little worried.
… Could it be that he turned stupid?
Brother Zhuang said worriedly, “Young Master Jing, be careful if you fall.”
Then Brother Zhuang followed Jing Xingzhi’s gaze and looked back, but saw nothing and became even more worried.
Was it possible that the man who had been a father for a while, turned crazy?
