Chapter 282: Young Master, Are You Truly Planning to Marry Me?
Chapter 282: Young Master, Are You Truly Planning to Marry Me?
Zuo Yueting’s bright smile remained on her face as she shook her head. “Young master may not be afraid of death, but Yueting is. Please don’t make it difficult for me.”
“Then if it isn’t to throw yourself at me, what brings you here, Miss Zuo? Don’t tell me you’re here to settle scores,” Lin Fengmian teased.
“Of course not. How could Yueting repay kindness with enmity after Young Master spared my life? I’ve come to see if I can be of any help.”
“I heard that Young Master needed a Spirit Fusion Pill, so I used the Taotie Association’s resources to acquire one from the black market. Unfortunately…”
Zuo Yueting’s expression turned slightly awkward as she took out a jade bottle and handed it over. “Unfortunately, it’s only a lower-grade Spirit Fusion Pill. The rest are monopolized.”
Jun Yunshang’s eyes lit up at the mention of a Spirit Fusion Pill, but her excitement faded upon hearing that it was a lower grade.
A lower-grade Spirit Fusion Pill would limit one’s Heavenly Manifestation limit to ten zhang at most. For a genius, that was far too low, a mere insult.
Such a pill would be rejected even by ordinary family disciples, let alone an incomparable prodigy like Lin Fengmian. Using it would be tantamount to sabotaging his future.
Zuo Yueting seemed to be well aware of this. She sighed. “Young Master, give me some time and I should be able to obtain a higher-grade Spirit Fusion Pill. I ask for your patience.”
Lin Fengmian opened the bottle to inspect it. Inside was a blue pill with a faint humanoid shape in the middle.
Although the pill emitted a fragrance, it wasn’t particularly potent, and the humanoid figure within was indistinct, clearly marking its lower quality.
Even so, he understood that obtaining such a pill under the current circumstances was no easy feat.
Feeling a weight lifted from his chest, Lin Fengmian stored the pill away and couldn’t help but smile slightly.
Everything was in place. The wind had come to set the sails.
Was he truly the chosen one of Heaven?
Lightly chuckling, he said, “Miss Zuo, how many Spirit Stones is this pill worth? I’ll pay you double.”
Zuo Yueting sighed softly. “Young master spared my life and even gifted me those top-grade Green Spirit Pills. How could I accept your Spirit Stones now?”
She handed over her jade communication slip. “If I find a higher-grade pill, I’ll bring it to you first.”
Lin Fengmian didn’t care about ceremony. He accepted the jade pendant with a smile. “Then I will gratefully accept.”
His mood soared, and his bright smile lit up the room. “Miss Zuo, I’m beginning to like you.”
Although it was just a lower-grade Spirit Fusion Pill, he noted the sentiment behind her actions.
Helping him would undoubtedly provoke Jun Fengya’s retaliation, putting both Zuo Yueting and the Taotie Association in grave danger.
Zuo Yueting’s eyes widened momentarily at his straightforward words, while Jun Yunshang’s hands tightened around the fabric of her skirt.
Even someone as seasoned as Zuo Yueting, accustomed to navigating through countless interactions, felt her heart skip a beat as she looked into Lin Fengmian’s eyes, shining as brightly as the stars.
She rolled her eyes at him coquettishly, feigning annoyance. “If Young Master continues to tease me, I might really cling to you.”
Lin Fengmian laughed heartily. “Please don’t. Falling in love with me won’t do you any good.”
Soon, the carriage arrived back at the inn. To avoid arousing suspicion, Lin Fengmian and Jun Yunshang got out of the carriage with calm expressions and walked inside without looking back.
The two of them walked to their rooms in silence.
If it weren’t for the faint fragrance lingering beside him, Lin Fengmian might have thought that Jun Yunshang had disappeared.
Using a token to unlock the room, he stepped inside and the protective formation silently reactivated, sealing them from the outside world.
Jun Yunshang, who had been silent the whole time, finally spoke. “Young master, can we talk?”
Lin Fengmian hummed in agreement as he walked over to the stone table in the sitting area and sat down. “What do you want to talk about?”
Jun Yunshang gracefully sat next to him and produced a bottle of fine wine. She poured out a small cup, the delicate fragrance wafting through the room.
Lin Fengmian frowned. “What is this? Are you planning to get me drunk and take advantage of me?”
Jun Yunshang shook her head, sipping from the cup of wine in her hand. “I just need some courage,” she said softly.
After finishing one cup, she poured herself another one.
Lin Fengmian eyed her warily. “Drinking so much – are you trying to muster up the courage to confess your feelings to me?”
His expression turned serious, and he spoke with mock solemnity. “If that’s the case, you can stop drinking. I’ll make it clear right now: I refuse!”
Jun Yunshang’s face immediately turned red. She glared at him, feigning annoyance. “Young master, I get it. You reject me ten times a day, I hate you!”
Lin Fengmian chuckled. “Looks like the wine is working. You’re finally being honest about hating me.”
Jun Yunshang pouted and let out a soft humming sound. She stared at the rippling wine in her cup, her thoughts drifting away.
After a pause, her voice softened as she asked, “Why didn’t you accept Sister Fengya’s offer? She’s clearly a better choice.”
Her bright eyes glimmered under the dim light, filled with curiosity as she turned to look at him.
Lin Fengmian laughed easily. “Are you so eager to send me to your elder sister?”
Jun Yunshang took another small sip of wine before replying in a low voice, “Of course not. I just don’t understand why you still want to stay here with me.”
“The reason, I just told you. What I want, she cannot give me,” Lin Fengmian casually replied.
Her eyes widened in shock. “Are you serious?”
Jun Yunshang’s already flushed face turned as red as a ripe apple. She gaped at him, her thoughts in disarray.
Didn’t he say earlier that he wanted the most beautiful woman in Junyan and compensation in the form of a wife?
Could it be… could he have meant it?
“Young master, do you really want to marry me? But we’ve only known each other for less than half a month! I hardly know you…”
“It’s not that I don’t like you – I do – but isn’t this a bit too fast?”
“My mother once told me that relationships take time and understanding…”
Worried that Lin Fengmian might be offended, she hurriedly added, “If you’re really serious about marrying me, it’s not impossible. But I’d have to wait until I…”
Lin Fengmian couldn’t help but laugh at her flustered, nonsensical ramblings.
He reached out and ruffled her hair, smiling warmly at her. “What are you thinking with that little head of yours? Stop overthinking things.”
“What I said and what I want is your top-grade Void Breaking Pill, not you. Jun Fengya doesn’t have a top-grade Void Breaking Pill.”
It took Jun Yunshang a moment to process his words. Her lips quivered, and tears of embarrassment welled up in her eyes.
She felt like burying herself alive. She had embarrassed herself utterly, throwing away her dignity for the next lifetime.
Her toes curled in discomfort, metaphorically building a huge imperial palace from the ground up.
Desperately, she chugged down another gulp of wine to hide her humiliation.
“Oh, the Void Breaking Pill… I see… It wasn’t me…”
Lin Fengmian couldn’t suppress his laughter as he watched her awkward, silly demeanor.
Jun Yunshang covered her face with her hands, her voice muffled. “Young Master Ye, stop laughing already…”
But Lin Fengmian’s laughter only grew louder. “Haha… all right, I’ll stop. No, I can’t hold it in – haha!”
Jun Yunshang wanted nothing more than to disappear into the depths of the Northern Abyss.
To drown her mortification, she downed several more cups in quick succession, alarming Lin Fengmian.
He began to worry. Would drinking this much make her lose control and unleash some beastly instincts on him?
And when that moment came… would he resist, or let himself be persuaded?
