Chapter 7: Chapter 7 – Attack
Kaliyug and Jeeva sat together in their classroom, immersed in study, when Kunal and Rumi burst in, panting heavily. They took seats in front of Jeeva, their eyes filled with unease.
"Jeeva, your life is in danger!" Rumi exclaimed, her voice trembling as she turned toward Kaliyug.
"What nonsense are you spouting now?" Kaliyug snapped, irritation flashing across his face.
"I'm serious!" Rumi insisted. "The people who gave you that polar bear are part of a gang that hunts powerful individuals. Jeeva might be targeted next because everyone knows you're the strongest person here!"
"How do you even know this?" Kaliyug asked, narrowing his eyes in suspicion.
"We saw the guy at the mall yesterday," Kunal explained. "He was handing out polar bears loaded with surveillance equipment to test people's strength. We tried to catch him, but he got away. You need to be careful!"
"Thank you for the warning," Jeeva said with a nervous smile.
Kunal and Rumi nodded before leaving the room. "You should pack your things and come to my house this evening," Kaliyug said, turning to Jeeva. "If the gang knows where you live, it's not safe for you to stay there. You'll be safer with me."
Jeeva hugged Kaliyug. "Nothing will happen to me as long as I have you. I need to go now—I have an art class." She left the classroom.
As she walked out, Kaliyug headed to the school rooftop, where Raj and Kamli were already standing. He turned to leave but stopped as a wall of water suddenly appeared in front of him.
"Where do you think you're going? This rooftop is for the royals. Trespassing has its consequences!" Kamli said angrily.
"I don't want any trouble, and I didn't know this was restricted. Let me go," Kaliyug replied, stepping toward the stairs. Suddenly, a laser beam grazed his shoulder, and he winced in pain. He turned back, only to be slammed by a fist of water that sent him flying.
Kaliyug hit the ground hard, and Vinoy appeared, smirking. Kamli launched another laser, but Kaliyug dodged just in time. Before he could recover, a massive water kick hurled him into the air, and he landed painfully on the stairs. Kunal arrived just in time, helping Kaliyug up and taking him to the hospital.
"Stay away from me. I don't need anyone's help," Kaliyug muttered, pulling away and staggering toward the back of the school. He collapsed, his injuries taking a toll. Kunal returned with a first aid kit, tending to Kaliyug's wounds before leaving. As soon as Kunal was out of sight, Kaliyug stood up as if unharmed, punched a nearby stone, shattering it, and walked away. His eyes briefly glowed blue before returning to normal, and a faint smile crossed his face.
Meanwhile, Jeeva packed her things and headed to Kaliyug's house. As she walked, a speeding car forced her to jump aside. Two men grabbed her from behind, dragging her into an alley. Jeeva fought back, throwing them aside, but someone jabbed her neck with a needle.
Dizzy and weak, she saw masked figures closing in with knives. Jeeva tried to run, but her powers wouldn't activate. Exhausted, she was caught again but managed to escape, using her fists and feet to fend off her attackers. One of them stabbed her in the stomach, and she staggered to an empty street before collapsing.
Surrounded by masked men again, Jeeva's anger flared. Tears streamed down her face as she screamed, triggering her powers in a massive explosion. Her attackers were thrown to the ground, injured. Limping, Jeeva returned to the main road and fainted, collapsing in front of a crowd.
When Jeeva awoke, she was in a hospital bed, her body bandaged. Her friend Kirti used healing powers to ease her pain. Kunal and Rumi stood nearby, looking out the window.
"How did I get here?" Jeeva asked, confused.
"The gang tried to kill you, but you escaped. People brought you here," Rumi explained.
"There's bad news," Kunal added solemnly.
"What is it?" Jeeva asked nervously.
"Your powers are gone," Kunal said.
Jeeva froze, unable to process the news.
"They might return, but there's no way to know when," Rumi said, placing a reassuring hand on Jeeva's shoulder.
"This is all Kaliyug's fault," Kirti muttered. "Ever since he came into your life, things have gone downhill."
"Enough!" Kunal snapped.
"Where is Kaliyug?" Jeeva asked softly.
"He went to get your medicine. He should be back soon," Rumi said.
The door opened, and Kaliyug entered with a bag of medicine. He smiled when he saw Jeeva awake and stroked her head gently. Jeeva clung to him, sobbing. Kaliyug held her tightly, comforting her.
The next day, Kaliyug brought Jeeva's belongings to his house. He stayed home from school to care for her, but her powers hadn't returned, leaving Jeeva disheartened.
"Are you okay?" Kaliyug asked, placing a hand on her shoulder.
"I feel so weak. Without my powers, I can't protect you," Jeeva said tearfully.
"You don't need to protect me. I'll be fine," Kaliyug reassured her, brushing her hair gently.
"Let's go to school," Jeeva said, grabbing her bag.
At school, whispers filled the halls as students eyed Jeeva with knowing smirks. She felt like prey among predators. Sensing her fear, Kaliyug hugged her. "Don't worry. I'll always be by your side."
Raj sneered. "Look who's talking. You're powerless too!"
Kaliyug ignored him and walked Jeeva to class, but Kamli blocked their path. "How will you protect her without your powers?" she taunted.
"We don't need them. Now move," Kaliyug said, leading Jeeva away.
At lunch, Jeeva went to the rooftop, feeling uneasy. Three girls approached her.
"You've had your turn as the top dog. Now it's ours," one of them sneered, activating her powers.
"I don't want to fight," Jeeva said, turning to leave.
They attacked, throwing her to the ground and cutting her lip. As they advanced, Jeeva thought about what Kaliyug would do in her place. She quickly analyzed their powers and dodged a sharp projectile. Using her wits, she disabled each girl, leaving them defeated.
Clapping echoed behind her, and she turned to see Vinoy. "Why stick with a loser like Kaliyug when you could have someone strong by your side?" he asked.
"Kaliyug doesn't need powers to protect me. The weak are the ones who use their strength to bully others," Jeeva shot back, walking away.
"What now?" Kamli asked Vinoy.
"If Kaliyug thinks he can protect her, let's see what he does tomorrow. Spread the word—anyone can attack him. If he dies, we'll call it an accident," Vinoy said, grinning.
"And the teachers?" Kamli asked.
"We'll take care of them with anesthesia smoke," Vinoy replied.
The group laughed, their plan already in motion.
