Chapter 95: Chapter 94
Haruka stands in front of his closet, considering his options. He settles on a navy button-down shirt, dark jeans, and a pair of casual leather shoes. Satisfied with his appearance, he heads downstairs, where his parents, Hana and Matsu, are relaxing in the living room.
"I'm heading out to meet Kara for lunch," Haruka announces, drawing his parents' attention.
Hana's face brightens with a warm smile. "Oh, that's wonderful! Have fun on your date, dear."
Haruka feels a flush of embarrassment creep up his neck. "It's not a date, Mom. We're just catching up as friends."
Hana chuckles, the amusement evident in her eyes. "Of course, of course. Well, I hope you two enjoy yourselves regardless."
Haruka nods, unable to hide the faint blush on his cheeks as he turns to leave. "I'll be back later. Bye, Mom, Dad."
Haruka arrives at the café, a cozy establishment tucked away in the heart of National City. He scans the room, but Kara is not yet present. Claiming a table for two, he settles into the plush chair and pulls out his phone, scrolling through the latest news headlines.
As he browses, a frown slowly forms on his face. The months he's been away have not been kind to National City; the crime rate has spiked, and the local authorities seem overwhelmed. Haruka lets out a sigh, making a mental note to address this issue soon.
Haruka's attention is drawn to the television in the café as a news anchor's urgent voice fills the air.
"We're following a developing story - a commercial airliner is in distress and rapidly descending over National City. Air traffic control is in contact, but the situation is dire. The plane could crash within the city limits if they can't regain control."
Haruka's eyes were glued to the television as the news broadcast showed the commercial airliner, its engines spewing smoke and flames as it rapidly descended. He grimaced, the gravity of the situation sinking in.
"That's not good." Haruka was about to rush out the door when a blur suddenly appeared on the screen, streaking towards the imperiled aircraft.
"What is that?" he murmured, his brow furrowing as he leaned in to get a better look.
…
Kara stands in front of her mirror, surveying herself in a vibrant red dress. She frowns, shaking her head.
"No, too bold. I want something more casual, but still nice."
She moves to her closet, rummaging through her options. Pulling out a pale blue sundress, she holds it up, tilting her head.
"Hmm, this could work, but it feels a little too...girly." Kara sighs, tossing the dress onto her bed.
Kara then selects a sleek black skirt and a white blouse, quickly trying them on. She scrutinizes her reflection, biting her lip.
"Too formal. I want to look put-together, but not like I'm trying too hard."
Frustrated, Kara flops down on her bed, staring up at the ceiling. After a moment, her eyes light up as an idea strikes her. She rushes to her closet, emerging with a green dress and a black jacket.
"This is it!" Kara exclaims, holding the outfit up triumphantly. "Casual, but still cute. Perfect for lunch with Haruka."
She quickly changes into the dress, smoothing her hands over the fabric. Kara studies herself in the mirror, nodding in satisfaction.
"Yeah, this is the one."
Kara looked at the time and saw it was time to meet. "Oh no! Got to hurry."
She quickly got dressed, putting on a touch of makeup, and headed to the cafe. As she approached, the news of a plane crashing in National City caught her eye. Kara looked up and, with her superhuman vision, spotted the plane. Its engines were burning, and it was circling the city. Without hesitation, Kara ducked into an alley and spun into her Supergirl costume. With a burst of speed, she took to the skies, zeroing in on the imperiled aircraft.
Kara raced through the sky, the wind whipping through her hair. Her heart pounded with determination as she closed the distance to the distressed aircraft. Below, she could see the terrified passengers, their faces etched with fear.
Pushing herself to go even faster, Kara positioned herself directly beneath the rapidly descending plane. With her incredible strength, she gently tilted the aircraft, guiding it towards the river. But as she steered, Kara spotted a bridge looming in their path.
"Oh, come on!" Kara exclaimed, her brow furrowing in concentration.
Without hesitation, she tilted the plane even more, narrowly guiding it under the bridge. The landing was rough, but Kara managed to submerge the plane in the water, cushioning the impact. Once it had settled, she quickly flew out of the water, surveying the scene from above.
Kara let out a sigh of relief as she saw that none of the passengers appeared to be critically injured. The plane had landed safely on the river, and the passengers were beginning to exit the aircraft. Kara hovered in the air, watching as news choppers and emergency vehicles swarmed the area, drawn by the dramatic landing.
Knowing that her presence would only invite more questions and attention, Kara decided it was best to leave. With a final glance at the scene below, she turned and flew away, disappearing from view. Her heart was still racing from the adrenaline of the rescue, but she was grateful that she had been able to save the plane and its passengers.
As Kara soared through the sky, she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in her actions. Being Supergirl allowed her to use her powers to help others in their time of need, and that was something she took great satisfaction in.
Kara hurries back to the alley, spinning out of her Supergirl costume. She quickly dries herself off, her hair and clothes returning to their previous state. With a few adjustments, she is back in her green dress and ready to meet Haruka.
She glances at the time and realizes she's running late. She rushes out of the alley, smoothing down her dress as she heads to the cafe.
Kara rushes to the café, her heart still pounding from the plane rescue. As she approaches, she sees Haruka sitting at a table, looking at the TV. Taking a deep breath, Kara puts on a warm smile and walks over to him.
"Haruka, hi!" Kara greets him, her voice slightly breathless from her quick change. "I'm so sorry I'm a little late. There was a, um, situation that I had to take care of."
Haruka looks up from his phone, his expression shifting to one of concern. "Kara, are you alright? You look a bit flustered."
Kara nods quickly. "Yes, yes, I'm fine. Just a little...distracted, that's all." She smooths down her dress, hoping Haruka doesn't notice the lingering dampness.
Haruka asks if she saw the news of the plane crash. "Did you see the news about the plane crash?"
Kara nods, her expression carefully neutral. "Yeah, I saw the news on my way here. It looked like quite a scary situation."
Haruka leans forward, his eyes alight with fascination. "It was incredible. The news reports say a woman in a red and blue costume swooped in and saved the plane. Landed it right in the river without a single casualty." He shakes his head in wonder. "I can't even imagine how someone could have that kind of power."
Kara blushes hearing Haruka praise her even though he did not know it. "Yeah, I guess she was cool." Kara can't help but feel a sense of pride at Haruka's admiration for Supergirl's heroics, even if he doesn't realize she is the one behind the mask.
"So, how have you been?" Kara asks, changing the subject. "I heard you've been traveling to different cities. Anything exciting happen on your trips?"
Haruka's face lights up as he recounts his adventures. "Actually, yes! I've been all over - Star City, Fawcett City, even Amnesty Bay. Met some interesting people along the way."
Kara leans in, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Oh? Like who?"
"Well, in Star City, I met with two cool dudes and a girl with family problems," Haruka explains. "And in Fawcett City, I met with the foster children of the Vasquez family."
Haruka's face lit up as he continued, "And in Amnesty Bay, I met a girl who lived in royalty. Her name was Hila."
Kara leaned in, her eyes sparkling with intrigue. "Royalty, huh? That sounds fascinating. What was she like?"
Haruka chuckled, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. "Well, she was certainly a unique individual." He leaned back in his chair, his gaze turning inward as he reminisced. "Hila had this air of elegance about her, but she was also incredibly down-to-earth. We had some really interesting conversations about her life in the royal family and the challenges she faced."
Kara listened intently, her curiosity piqued. "That must have been quite an experience. I can only imagine what it's like to live that kind of lifestyle."
Haruka nodded, his expression thoughtful. "It was definitely eye-opening. Hila had a lot of wisdom to share, despite her young age. I'm grateful I had the chance to meet her."
Haruka and Kara continue to chat, and Kara shares her experience in Metropolis.
