Kurapika's POV

- Kurapika, you've changed a lot,' Gon said, looking up at the stars in the sky, 'And not just outwardly, but inwardly as well.

- In a good way, I hope? - Kurapika asked with a little irony.

- Well... How to say... I think that such external changes can hardly be called good. After all, you've lost an eye and you look... Older...?

- You've become more brutal, not only in appearance but also in character. You've become more rugged and masculine. I'm inclined to think that it's the interaction with Risotto and his friends that has affected you so much, and they're certainly a bunch of scumbags, aren't they?

- Oh, come on. They're normal guys with their own crazy ideas. And you're right to point out that they've influenced me, and I'm happy with that influence. Thanks to them, I've been able to change for the better and grow on myself.

- Well, you know them better than I do, so I believe you. Although that bespectacled guy is kind of annoying. For some reason I think he's a real badass.

- Ha-ha-ha-ha... You're pretty close to the truth there! - Killua's words made Kurapika laugh a little, because he knew Gyacho's character and abilities well, which made Killua's words even more ironic.

Kurapika, Gon, and Killua wandered leisurely through the canyon. They had no business, errands, or other concerns. They were just chatting, and generally just having a nice time together.

And what was remarkable was that it was almost nightfall. It was still quite bright, though, thanks in large part to the bright moon and the stars that decorated the sky beautifully.

- Of course, it was a little unexpected that you invited me out at this time of day. How did your mentor feel about it? Or should I say, my mentor.

- We managed to persuade her, Killua replied, 'It's a bit surprising. I'm going to take the Hunter's exam in a couple of days, and I didn't pass the last one. And yet she let us go. She must have been in a good mood. You know, we're going through a tough time, too... Although it's probably a mess compared to us. It's a good thing we didn't tell Bisky the truth about what happened.

- You mean what happened the other day?

- Yeah. You're being hunted by some unreal mercenaries.

- Yeah. Mercenaries. That's really fucked up.

***

Masador City.

Gon and Killua had just met Kurapika along with Risotto, and they were shocked by Kurapika's appearance.

- Don't say too much,' Risotto said to Kurapika, 'You can walk with them for now. I'll go for a walk on my own and scout the area.

- I understand. - Kurapika answered him.

Risotto turned around and headed out of town, leaving Gon and Killua even more puzzled.

- You... He... Where did he go...? - Gon asked a little confused, -I... I... I don't understand what's going on at all!...

- You don't have to understand,' Kurapika reassured him, 'Let's go. Let's walk around the city and talk.

After listening to Kurapika, they went with him for a leisurely walk around the city.

''I understood your words perfectly Risotto. I can share the bare minimum of information with them, but there's no way they need to know what we're doing here, what our true goals are, what Stand users are after us, and they don't need to know about the Stands themselves.'

- So what happened after all, Kurapika? - Gon asked again, 'Who or what brought you to this state?

- You make it sound as if I were an invalid,' Kurapika was slightly offended, 'I'll tell you. You know about such a criminal organisation as Genei Ryodan, don't you?

- Who doesn't know about them! - Killua was a little surprised by this question, -What kind of questions?...? It's the most famous criminal organisation in the world! Oh yes... I thought you said you were fighting them back in Yorkshin.

- That's right. Well, they don't exist any more. We have destroyed them.

Such a statement made Gon and Killua's mouths water.

- What do you mean destroyed?! You really destroyed them? - Gon asked, 'Holy shit! They're the most notorious and dangerous criminals in the world! You're really cool in that case!

- Yeah. And in the final battle, I fought their leader.

- The leader of the Spiders?! - Killua was surprised. He did that to you. Holy shit! Now I see why you lost your eye and got that scar,' Killua pointed to the scar peeking out from under Kurapiki's bandage, 'And what happened in the end? Did you defeat him? If you said that the Spiders were destroyed, then it means that their leader is gone, right?

- Well... Yes... Their leader really doesn't exist anymore.

Suddenly, Kurapika noticed Gon looking at something in his map book. It piqued his interest a bit.

- What are you doing there Gon?

- Oh, this? Oh, just going through my contact list. Now you're on it too.

- Can I see it?

- No problem! Here, take a look.

Kurapika looked in Gon's card book. It displayed a list of all the people Gon had ever met who could now be contacted using a special map.

- So... Nothing out of the ordinary,' Kurapika commented aloud, 'Seems like the most common players. Gentsuru, Binolt, Bisky, Solido Naso, Killua... Nothing unusual.

- Should there be anything unusual?

- No... That's just me... Just saying.

They continued their leisurely wanderings through the city. Gon and Killua kept asking Kurapika uncomfortable questions about what else had happened to make him look like that. However, Kurapika deftly avoided them, and often just made things up.

At one point, Kurapika felt something unusual.

'That feeling... Oh shit..... It's that aura again! There's a Stand user somewhere nearby!'

- I feel something unusual,' Said Gon, who had probably sensed this aura as well, 'It looks like someone decided to release their Nan.

- And judging from this aura, it's not with good intentions. - Killua remarked.

''Thank goodness they think it's Nan's aura. It's better to let them think that. Though it would be better if they didn't feel it at all.'

- Finally found it. - Suddenly, a voice came from behind Kurapiki and the others.

'Oh shit...'

Kurapika, Gon, and Killua turned around at the same time and saw a man twenty metres away from them with the same aura emanating from him.

It was a young man of slightly below average height and a slim medium build. He had blond hair that came down a little below his shoulders. He was dressed in a green turtleneck with diagonal mesh patterns, light gloves that reached to the middle of his forearms, wide breeches and tall dark riding boots. But what stood out more was the equestrian helmet he wore on his head, which bore the letters 'DIO' loosely attached to bending pins coming out of a small ribbon tied in the front.

'This guy... It looks like his name is DIO. And he's definitely our enemy!'

- Is that you? I can't understand... Am I mistaken or something...? No, it's definitely one of you!

- Hey uncle, what do you want from us? - Killua asked threateningly.

- What do I want? I want your lives!

Dio rushed at them at a great speed, which was not only abnormal for a human, but his running style was also unusual.

- Scatter! - Kurapika shouted.

Everyone immediately rushed in different directions. Killua to the left, Gon to the right, but Kurapika stayed where he was. He launched three chains at his opponent at once, but he dodged all of them with deft movements like an acrobat.

'What?! He's just inhumanly fast!'

The enemy had already run up close to Kurapika, causing him to have to engage in close combat. With great difficulty, he dodged several blows that would have probably finished him off. The enemy was about to deliver another blow to Kurapika's throat that would have been fatal, but at the last moment Gon and Killua were behind him, ready to attack. This caused Dio to slow down a bit, which Kurapika took advantage of by dodging the blow at the last moment. Kurapika, Gon and Killua were about to attack simultaneously from all sides, but at the last moment Dio executed an unusual circular attack that scattered them in all directions.

Kurapika lay on the ground and tried to realise what had happened.

'What was that just now...? He attacked us with a circular attack, but it wasn't fists or feet. It was something else.'

Quickly getting to his feet, he managed to realise what it was when he saw what had become of Dio. He had developed a long tail, like some kind of lizard, that had patterns on it that formed the repeated word 'DIO'. Also, sharp claws began to emerge from his gloves, and his mouth turned into an actual wide mouth full of sharp teeth.

'Come on!... Is that... A dinosaur!!! A stand that allows you to transform into a dinosaur!!!! Now it's clear what kind of attack it was. It scattered us with its tail!'

Meanwhile, Gon and Killua once again tried to attack Dio, but the latter launched several kicks and tail blows with incredibly fast movements. Fortunately these blows didn't kill them, but they flew half a hundred metres to the other end of the street.

After that, Dio instantly ran up to Kurapika, so that he barely noticed it, and engaged him in hand-to-hand combat.

- WRYYYYYY!!! - Shouted Dio as he threw a hail of punches.

Kurapika was able to dodge his opponent's attacks, but eventually he was hit with a powerful tail kick that sent him flying backwards. Unlike Gon and Killua, Kurapika flew straight into the wall of the card shop behind him. He punched through it and flew into it, and then he was covered in debris from that very wall, only his face was not covered, so he could see his enemy approaching.

'Here... Shit... This strength, agility, skill... He's superior to me in every way. I'm nothing compared to him. Am I really finished?'

Dio slowly approached Kurapika. He had a satisfied and wide smile on his face. Meanwhile, Gon and Killua were just starting to come round at this time.

It seemed that Kurapika was finished, however, suddenly, some person began to walk past Dio, which was very strange. While the other people were either scattering or watching from a distance, this man was calmly walking past Dio as if he didn't give a damn. He was wearing a dark, closed cloak with a hood pulled over his head, making it impossible to see his appearance.

As he passed by Dio, he accidentally hit him with his shoulder.

- Hey you! You want to die too?! - Shouted the angry Dio to him, 'Wait a minute... You...

The man stopped and-

-behind Dio's back and delivered one powerful punch that cut him through. The last thing Dio saw was a crimson-coloured bloody hand coming out of his stomach. After the unknown man pulled the arm out, Dio collapsed into a pool of his own blood and died.

Kurapika had been watching the whole time. He was terrified. His heart was pounding at a tremendous speed.

'It can't be... This feeling... It's not what I usually feel from Stand users who are after us. No... It's the same feeling as last time... It's like a knife has been held to my heart... This horror... It's him...!'

The cloaked man apparently didn't know that Kurapika was lying in the rubble. He shook off his hand and went on his way. At the last moment, however, Kurapika managed to see a strand of hair emerge from under his hood. It was long enough to fall just below his shoulders, and the colour was half black and half pink.

Not only did Kurapika not move, he tried not to even breathe so as not to draw any attention to himself. When the man finally moved away Kurapika began to crawl out from under the rubble.

'No doubt about it, it was him... Diavolo! He's on Greed Island too! And I'm incredibly lucky he didn't notice me.'

At this time, Gon and Killua ran up to Kurapika and began to help him out of the rubble.

- Jesus, Kurapika,' Gon said excitedly, 'Are you all right? You're a little pale. Did you realise what happened? We were attacked by some bloke who has an unusual Nan that allows him to turn into a dinosaur!

- He scattered us like little children,' Killua went on to say, 'And then some man in a cloak came along and killed the dinosaur! Although I didn't quite understand how it happened, it was quick and brutal.

- Holy... Shit...!!! - Kurapika grunted as he crawled out from under the rubble. We'll talk about what happened later.

***

- This is really fucked up,' Kurapika muttered to himself.

- Hey look! - Said Killua pointing to the sky.

- Wow, storm clouds! - Gon was surprised, 'As far as I know, the climate of Greedy Island is not very rainy. It's really unusual.

Kurapika looked thoughtfully at the dark thunderclouds that were rapidly approaching them, covering the stars. It didn't seem to be getting any darker.

- Thunderclouds...? Rain...?

The clouds were rapidly approaching. And they were approaching at such a speed that Kurapika calculated that they should have been above them in a couple of minutes.

'Strange... It seems like normal thunderclouds, it seems like it's going to start raining soon... But for some reason, I'm a little uneasy. I wonder why. Maybe it's because you can catch a cold in the rain. I don't know, but there's something I don't like about them. Although...'

- Shall we get out of here? - Gong suggested it.

- Come on, it's just clouds,' Killua was more optimistic, 'It's just a little rain. I think it's fun to walk in the rain. Well, let's get out of here.

They quickened their steps and headed swiftly towards the town, which was no more than an hour's walk away. They could have used the map to move quickly, but they didn't want to waste it on such a small thing, and everyone realised that.

Meanwhile, the clouds had already caught up with them and it started to rain immediately afterwards.

- Shit, now we're going to get wet. - Gon complained.

The rain gradually intensified, eventually turning into a torrential downpour.

Kurapika and the other boys had been walking towards the town for almost ten minutes now, and they were soaking wet. Kurapika was still a bit restless.

'Damn why am I so uneasy? Could it be... Come on....? Could it be...'

Despite the sound of the rain, he managed to hear someone's voice behind him:

- There you are. Finally found it.

What surprised not only Kurapika, but all the other boys as well, was that the voice came not just from behind them, but above them.

As they slowly turned around and looked up, they saw that almost three metres above their heads was a man with an umbrella to cover himself from the rain. He was of medium height and medium build. He was wearing a black hooded poncho with a small hole in it from which a lock of long blond hair protruded. There were ring-shaped buttons all over his clothes, except for the arms of his trousers and shoes. There were also sand-coloured patterns on his trousers that looked like fat commas.

But what caught Kurapika's attention the most was the mask this man wore. The mask itself completely covered the face, had black cutouts for the eyes and five lines at the bottom with the same number of dots above each of the straight lines. Across the entire distance from the eyes to the chin stretched a rainbow of three colours: blue, green and red.

Naturally, everyone was surprised by the fact that this man was standing in the air, as it seemed to them at first. But upon closer inspection, Kurapika noticed that he was actually standing on raindrops.

- Holy shit!' Gon exclaimed, 'This guy is standing on raindrops! What on earth has he got Nan?

- You two,' The man pointed at Gon and Killua, 'I don't need you two, I'm letting you go. All I want is that one-eyed blond.

- Why don't you fuck off, uncle? - Killua sent him away, - If you offend our friend, you won't live long.

- Hey you,' The man turned his attention to Kurapika, "Your look... You're staring at me..." He reached down and bent down so that his face was almost point-blank to Kurapika's face, 'My mask... Can you see my mask? You can see it, right? If you're staring like that, you can see it.

- What mask, what's he talking about? - Gong asked in confusion.

''Can't they see her! But why? Wait... Could that mask be... His booth?!'

Killua got tired of waiting, and decided to attack first. He turned the nails on his hand into claws and tried to strike, however, when he started the move his hand was immediately shredded.

- What...? - Killua was surprised and immediately stopped his attack.

'Raindrops... They froze!'

Taking a closer look, Kurapika, followed by Gon and Killua, noticed that the raindrops around them were frozen in the air. Touching the drops Kurapika noticed that they were as sharp as shards of glass.

- I get it, he can control the rain! - Shouted to the others Kurapika, -Killua, do you understand what I want to do?

- I understand you.

Kurapika concentrated Nan all over his body, but on his feet and palms a little more. Next, he grabbed hold of the fixed drops and made a leap and jumped on top of them. Killua followed suit, and after a bit of thought, Gon did too.

- Good idea Kurapika! Now we can catch him! - Said Gon.

Now they were on a bit more equal footing with their opponents.

''Gon and Killua are far less experienced in using Nan than I am. They won't last this long. We need to finish him off quickly.'

Kurapika started first. He launched one of his chains at his opponent, but the latter simply repelled it with raindrops. Killua at the same time created a bolt of lightning in his palm, which was apparently his Nan ability, and attempted a strike, which was more successful this time as his lightning vaporised the raindrops in its path. However, barely had his strike reached its target as the man instantly evaded the attack, splitting his body into many small pieces and moving them across the raindrops.

'Damn, he can even do that! He's moving his body across raindrops!'

After evading the attack, the man began to run away from them into the sky, jumping on the drops.

- Hurry up and get after him! - Shouted Kurapika to everyone.

They immediately rushed after him just as he did, jumping on the drops and climbing higher and higher. Gon was the quickest to catch up with the man. He tried to hit him, but the man simply dodged the blow by shifting his body, then immediately moved his arm and hit Gon right in the jaw, so that he almost fell down from a height of almost a hundred metres.

'How is it even possible to touch him? If we attack, he moves his body. And the raindrops just reflect our attacks.'

Kurapika tried to attack next. He attempted a series of blows with several chains at once, but his attacks were either reflected by the raindrops or the enemy simply moved his body to the side.

Soon Kurapika didn't even notice that the man's jaw was near his face, digging into his cheek.

- Whoa! Get off me, you bastard!

Kurapika punched the jaw and then it returned to its place, but immediately after that a man's hand was caught in his throat and began to choke Kurapika with a dead grip.

- It's no use,' the man said calmly, but at the same time menacingly, 'As long as it's raining, you can't do anything to me.

Kurapika tried to unhook the hand that was strangling him, but it was useless. The grip was truly ironclad.

He was starting to run out of oxygen. Kurapika began to feel himself slowly losing consciousness.

- W... Damn you!!! - Desperately he shouted out.

Suddenly, the hand that was clutching Kurapika's throat, and which Kurapika himself was clutching, unhooked from him and returned to its place.

- Waaaah! What did you just do!!! - Suddenly, the man shouted while holding onto his arm.

At this time Killua, taking advantage of his opponent's disorientation, went behind his back and created a lightning bolt in his hand and struck him in the back with all his might.

After that, the drops stopped locking in the air and the man flew down, with Kurapika, Gon, and Killua falling with him. Unlike the man, the boys managed to coordinate their movements properly and landed on the ground more or less unaffected.
