Chapter 18: Alcohol is deadly for health
.
996 GBC, Jura Tempest, Rimuru City~
.
Kal's POV~
.
By the time we reached the Jura Tempest Federation, it was already nighttime. The people of Jura Tempest were already notified of their ruler's arrival.
And to celebrate his return they threw a massive party.
To say, I was amazed by the festive mood was an understatement. It was one thing to see these colourful people laughing, dancing and interacting through the screen. And another through my eyes.
I can practically see their excitement and happiness explode as they welcomed Rimuru. And that excitement was extended to us just because we arrived with him.
The people of Jura Tempest welcomed us with open arms. They didn't question our identity or motive. Arriving with Rimuru was enough for them to see us as friends and allies. And before we know it we were ushered by them to the celebration.
And after a long round of dancing with beautiful female hobgoblins and having dick measuring contests with male hobgoblins and orcs(not literally.), I found myself sitting amidst the children, hearing an old hobgoblin recite a story from the era before the GBC, better known as the God Banishment Calendar.
"The gods became unruly, their unmatched divine powers blinding them to the misery of us mortals." The old man said, his face marred with a grim as if he lived through those times.
He looked at me, nodding, before continuing. "Then it happened, the Dragonlord Veldanava couldn't see our misery anymore and took action. He warned the gods to stop their folly, stop their petty games and their so called divine wars. But the gods in their eternal stupidity not only ignored the mightiest being to grace the Akashic World but also openly mocked him. One particular god called the Drowned God flayed many newborn dragons in mockery of the mighty Dragonlord." At that point, the old man dramatically stopped, his wizened eyes roaming the excited faces of the children listening.
"Ne~ Gramps what happened next?"
"Did the Dragonlord kill the evil god?"
"Quickly tell us!"
Seeing the old man not continuing, the children protested which caused him to laugh.
"Wahaha! Fine you brats! After Veldanava found the foolery of the drowned god, his fury knew no bounds. He flew straight to the Iron Islands, his Draconic Haki engulfing the whole world, making the gods tremble in fright.
When he reached Pyke, his massive form shadowed the whole island. The masses couldn't react when his massive arm fell from the sky, splitting the clouds in two and trapping the drowned god in his massive claws. The gods watched in bathed breath as the wrathful Dragonlord flew towards the sun, scaling the distance in mere minutes. Then they saw a cruelty that made them not go against Veldanava for the next thousand years.
They saw him drown the drowned god in the sun's core for 99 days and 99 nights. And for all those nights and days the gods heard the screams and screeches of the drowned god. Once Veldava stopped and threw the drowned in the void, a husk of a god he once was, his wild draconic eyes fell on other gods, the massive distance separating them irrelevant before his primeval gaze.
From that day onwards the gods reeled their arrogance and operated in an orderly manner until the day Veldanava fell."
The old man finished, his face grimacing in pain once he mentioned Veldanava's death.
"Now scoot away, you brats! Tomorrow I'll tell you the story of how the legendary sun warrior, Demi-god Radahn, and Demon lord Guy Crimson stood against the tyranny of gods again and forced the Akashic Record to banish them."
At those words I found myself protesting with the children to continue the story, but the old man harshly chased us away.
I sighed and moved to get a skewer from the barbecue.
While I was enjoying the specially underseasoned meat and juice watching the beautiful hobgoblins dance, I was approached by one of the dwarfs working for Rimuru.
"Yo! You are the one Rimuru-danna brought with him this time." I recognised him immediately, Kaijin Rimuru's chief weapon-crafting artisan.
"Yep! Names Kal!"
"I'm Kaijin! Tempest's weapon crafting Smith."
"Nice to meet Mr Kaijin."
"What Mr? Call me Kaijin." The buffed dwarf waved to me before raising one of the alcohol cups towards me.
"Here take this, real men should be drinking this, not juice." He continued, handing me the wooden cup while taking my juice.
"Really?" I questioned, my mind forming a plan to prank him. "So if I drink more than you, I'll be twice the man you are?" I continued, challenging the hulking not-so-dwarf man.
"Hahaha! That was a nice try, if I was younger I would have hotheadedly fallen for your taunt." The old dwarf laughed, before calling one of the other dwarfs.
"How about this, you out drink Myrd and I'll make a weapon for you."
"Bring it on!" I immediately accepted the challenge, already feeling the weight of the newly forged sword in my arms.
Losing didn't even cross my mind with Kryptonian endurance. I can probably dry a pond of alcohol and not feel a burn in my throat.
Oh! How wrong I was.
I remember the start of the competition or more precisely the third cup of the Magicule rich ale. After that everything went hazy, I vaguely remember flirting with a cute girl and even taking part in some race. And then asking a pipsqueak to share her food. After that, I remembered the moon suddenly becoming bigger and being surrounded by cotton and then… and then everything went black.
.
Third POV~
.
Rimuru and Benimaru were conversing, talking about the recent developments in Rimuru's absence when they heard a commotion.
The loud noise attracted their attention making them walk towards the gathering crowd.
"What's happening Shuna-chan," Rimuru questioned, pointing at Kal and Ranga standing at some distance.
"Shuna-chan?" Rimuru shook her shoulders seeing her not answering and frozen in a daze.
But the ogre princess didn't reply, seeing her like that worried Rimuru and Benimaru.
"It's that bastard, he whispered something in her ear and kissed her forehead."
""What?!"" Both Rimuru and Benimaru exclaimed at Gobta's words, their heads snapping in Kal's direction.
Kal feeling their intense gaze turned to look at them. None the wiser he gave them a mock salute before looking back to Ranga in competitive eyes.
"This bastard!" Rimuru shouted slowly walking towards the drunk teen, rolling up his sleeves.
"Rimuru-sama wait!" Rimuru stopped at Shuna's cry. "Don't punish him, it's alright!"
Rimuru's face turned dark at those words. He looked back at her and replied with a sweet smile.
"Don't worry Shuna-chan, I won't hurt him much, probably."
"Rimuru-sama he didn't do any harm. He was rizzing me?"
"Rizzing you? What the hell does that even mean?"
"It seems to be a modern word for courting," Shuna replied.
"If he wants to court you he needs my permission first!" Benimaru said as a red aura exploded from his body.
"Right right." Rimuru agreed.
"Stop it two! You guys are making Shuna-sama nervous, and the guy's action doesn't count he's too drunk. I'm sure he won't remember his action by tomorrow." Suddenly Shion appeared and boinked both Rimuru and Benimaru's heads making them stop bothering Shuna.
""Fine"" they relented.
After that they silently watched Ranga and Kal prepared to take off as Kaijin stood before them with a flintlock in his arm.
"On your marks, Go!" He fired the pistol, starting the race.
"Woah! Ranga-sama so fast!"
"So cool!"
"As expected of the star wolf!"
Countless cheers broke as Ranga blur forward, his figure barely visible to the naked eye.
"But where is his opponent!" After Ranga disappeared into the forest someone finally notice Kal's absence on the track.
"Look he's sitting on that rock." A hobgoblin pointed on top of a huge boulder where Kal can be seen sitting casually with his head resting on his knuckle and legs dangling.
"Oye otherworlder! Run! I betted Shuna-sama's personally embroidered handkerchief on you!!!"
"Yeah yeah, I also betted the broken shard of Souie-sama's sword."
"That's it?! I betted the wore off pants of Rimuru-sama"
The crowd became silent at the last remark, their collective heads snapped towards the speaker.
"Gobta, come here please," Rimuru called out the said speaker with a sweet smile.
"What is it, Rimuru-sama"
*Boom* Rimuru punched the short hobgoblin off the city before turning towards the race.
The race continued without a hitch, people with Magic Perception could already feel Ranga returning while Kal was still lying on the boulder.
Only when the Star Wolf was a few dozen kilometres away did Kal rose from the boulder.
"Yawn~" Stretching his body, Kal finally took a running position.
He launched towards the forest, immediately disappearing from the crowd's view.
*Boom* *Boom* *Boom*
Multiple sonic booms followed Kal's disappearance, making the nearby people fall on their backs.
""Woah!!!"" The people betted on Kal cheered only to stop when saw Ranga closing in to the starting line.
Both Kal's supporters and Ranga'a supporters looked in anticipation as the star wolf inched closer towards the victory.
Just as they thought Ranga won the race, familiar booms sound started reaching them again.
Ranga also heard the sound of Kal approaching, he in one last effort pushed the Black Thunder in his body, increasing his speed several fold.
*BOOM* An explosion of dust formed near the starting line.
"Who won?!"
"Its Ranga-sama!" Someone pointed at the majestic wolf standing at the starting line.
"No look! The otherworlder is also there." And True enough Kal was also standing with his hand waving towards the crowd.
"Did that mean, it's a tie?" People discussed who won. And just as their discussion started becoming rowdier Rumuru announced Kal as the winner.
"Woohoo!!!" Kal cheered coming towards Rimuru and Benimaru.
"Oh, nice! I was just getting hungry" he said seeing a small girl eating seekh kebab from her right hand while holding a plate of them on the other.
Kal took a skewer from her plate and rubbed her head under the shocked gaze of every person watching. "Thanks, pipsqueak" he said to the cute pinkhead
The whole party died with that single word, making the drunk Kal question. "What?! Why the party stopped!!!"
"Oh! He's dead." Rimuru muttered as a scene of Kal crossing the river flashed in his mind. "You'll be missed, dear Kal."
Rimuru wiped the imaginary tears as one very angry Milim Nava looked at Kal.
"What did you call me?" She asked looking at the guy who not only stole her food but also called her names.
The whole gathered crowd looked in bathed breath as the drunk Kal tilted his head in confusion.
He opened his mouth to reply but Rimuru suddenly came before him, answering Milim before he could say something.
Rimuru's reply calmed the destroyer to an extent.
But Kal was not having it, he had probably woken up today deciding he'd dug his grave the very day.
"I can answer for myself, Rimuru. And short stuff you need to tell your parents to have your ears chec-"
"Alee~ why did the moon become so big? And why am I surrounded by so much cotton." Kal muttered feeling weightless.
Before he could realise what was happening, the gravity started pulling him back.
"Ahhh!!!" Adrenalin rushed through his brain, clearing his drunken head slightly.
Kal started flailing his arms and legs trying to kick in his flight. Luckily he managed to activate it right before he collided. Though before he could celebrate a small first enter in his vision and everything went dark for him.
And this way Kal's first night in Tempest ended with a bang, quite literally. Next day waking up promising to never touch alcohol again.
