Chapter 9: Dungeon Dive
.
996 GBC, Tower of Babel, First Floor~
.
"So this is the first floor, huh?" Kal muttered, standing on the so-called beginning road. The walls of the floor were light blue in colour, the ground was uneven, and the whole pathway was dimly lit.
The sounds of goblins and kobolds from some distance can be heard by Kal.
The existence of this dungeon was special as it wasn't created naturally. Akashic Record built this dungeon at the idea of a very enthusiastic otherworlder.
Looking at the layout of the dungeon Kal knew where that idea came from.
He shook his head amusedly.
"Let's check out the first few floors and then head to the enchanted forest, I still need to complete those E-rank missions I have taken." Kal muttered. He had taken on 3 missions which is the maximum mission he could take on his Rank.
He plans to head to the enchanted forest because of their content. He needs to collect a batch of herbs and some monster's body parts to complete the quest. Nothing too difficult or time-taxing so he decided to check out the most important dungeon of this world.
The dungeon which can produce an almost unlimited number of monsters that generate a continuous flow of mana stones, unlike many natural dungeons that gets exhausted after some time.
Akashic Records has given this dungeon a special skill that can instantly create monsters with Magicules, unlike other dungeons that has to naturally breed them which takes years to do so.
However, such a method comes with its own problem. The monsters created with the Magicules don't leave behind any corpses to pillage. They instantly turn back to Magicules and disperse in the air leaving behind only a mana stone. In some rare cases a skill stone.
'Though I wonder if it's a fault or if the Akashic Record did it voluntarily to minimise the consumption of Magicules. Maybe even dispersed Magicules return back to the Dungeon Core.' Kal thought, approaching the location he sensed a group of goblins.
It didn't take him long to find them.
Kal unsheathed the swords Princess granted him and silently walked towards the group of five goblins that were screeching at each other.
When he reached a few meters distance from the goblins, he used one of the basic footwork he learned to accelerate towards the goblins.
Kal's figure blurred and then appeared directly behind the goblins. He sheathed his sword, just as the goblins exploded.
"Phew! That was an overkill, I shouldn't have used battle technique." Kal muttered. "I only intended to cut them in half but it seems I underestimated my strength again." He sighed.
'Forget it, let's just find another target. One of the reasons I came here is to get a better grip on my strength to begin with.' Kal thought while picking up the mana stones and moving to the next group.
And so two hours passed as he continued to kill goblins and kobolds to improve his control. It was a hard process as when you have the strength to bend metal mistakenly then handling something fragile than that can be tricky. Especially if you had an above average body for 35 years straight.
Well at least in these two hours, he managed to reach a point where he doesn't just explode those goblin's body to oblivion.
"I should probably get going," Kal said as he tossed another mana stone on a massive pile he gathered in his huge portor bag.
'I'll probably get enough money to last me a year of lodging and accommodation from selling all these stones.' Kal thought as he easily picked up a few tons heavy bag and carried it on his back.
Just as he was planning to move he heard a scream.
Kal's head snapped towards that direction. His eyes narrowed in focus and despite not awakening his supervision, he was able to pierce through the dense fog and saw the scrawny teenager being surrounded by an Adventurer party.
"Don't Kal, it's not your problem." Kal reminded himself as he felt compelled to help the teen.
"You're not really Superman. No need to play hero. You're just a bystander. You don't know the boy." He continued but his resolve weakened as he saw the bastards stab the teen's thigh and laugh at his pain and despair.
The last push was when thought of his sister flashed who was the same age as the scrawny teen.
'What if it was her…?' He thought.
"Agh! Let's just help this one time." Kal said with frustration before running towards the group.
He quickly arrived there and back-slapped the guy stabbing the teen. The slap had the guy hurl towards one of the guys despite Kal massively suppressing his strength.
Kal quickly took out the dagger from the teen's thigh and tossed him a healing potion.
"Chug it down kid." He said and spun on his heels, facing the party who looked ready to attack.
"Listen, we don't have to do this, just walk away and pretend it never happened," Kal said, raising his arms in a palacting manner.
The party of four looked at each other before they burst into laughter.
"I thought it was some high Ranker with a hero complex, but this is just a coward and a stupid one at that." One of the party members said. An average-looking girl in a rather revealing ranger clothing.
Kal ignored her as he looked at the knight who looked like the leader of the party.
"Please back away that way I don't have to necessarily hurt you guys."
"Haha! For a coward, your words are quite arrogant." The party leader. A middle-aged man covered from head to toe in full plated body armour said. His eyes, the only unarmoured part of his body dripped with contempt and mockery.
"Well, I warned," Kal whispered to himself before he disappeared and appeared before the leader. His right arm stretched out with his middle finger rolling back, held by his thumb.
The party leader's eyes widened, he tried to slash Kal with his sword but before he could Kal let go of his middle finger, flicking the party leader's forehead.
*Boom!!!*
The leader was sent flying and only stopped when half of his body was embedded in the wall.
The other party members couldn't react. They just stared at Kal before slowly turning their head to their leader.
The sight left them dumbfounded. Their mighty leader was buried in the wall, with his helmet sunken and eyes rolled over. His life and death being unknown.
"He's alive." They heard the culprit's voice filled with reassurance. Though unknown to them, the reassurance was more towards himself than them.
"You guys still wanna go, or wanna back away now," Kal asked popping his knuckles.
The party members didn't even reply, they quickly started running away from him, carrying their knocked-out members on their shoulders.
"Thought so." Kal said before turning to the healing teen.
