Chapter 46: Firebird (1)

SHRRIEK!!!!

A loud noise came from the firebird, Lucas knew that it was a battle roar.

Both he and John were ready with the spears up high and grips tighter.

Before the firebird could come toward them to attack, Lucas went dashing to the left which caught the attention of the firebird as it flapped its wings making waves of heat go everywhere.

John did the same but he went straight so as to not give the bird any chance to go and attack Ella who was waiting in the corridor's exit.

The bird's attention went toward John which made it give yet another loud shriek. John had stopped at this point thinking that Ella was safe in the distance.

The bird flapped its wings and finally came speedy toward him. John hadn't taken it in accord thinking the bird will go for Lucas first. He ran to the left where Lucas was present so that there was a fighting chance.

"What the plan, Lucas?" John asked while moving around, the firebird wasn't flying very fast and had some time to speak, only a few seconds.

"Don't know, just attack when I do!" Lucas said and went near the firebird, he wasn't wearing any protective suit, he wasn't protected by any means but he had no choice but to defeat the creature by any means.

The firebird increased its speed, it was some inches above the ground with its fiery wings flapping horizontally, the wing span wasn't by any means large but Lucas was still a bit scared.

Lucas was running toward the bird while the bird was doing the same. It came to a point when there were only some steps left till Lucas could hit the damn thing.

The atmosphere had become a bit warm, it might have been due to the aggressive fire the bird was made of but it was just that. The warm sensation had not increased even when Lucas was close.

Lucas's mind went on overdrive, he looked at the space between the land and the bird's fire claws, he knew it was going to attack with its claws seeing the posture the bird was in while flying.

He made a split seconds decision and when the bird was very close, to the point the claws were going to hit his chest any minute. Lucas completely fell to the ground in an instant horizontally. The bird went from his above straight and stopped midway.

It was a very risky play that gambled getting a huge hit but there was no other choice, he couldn't have dodged the other side with the wings flapping and taking a large space.

"I didn't feel warm, Uncle John! I will keep dodging, just throw the spear at it!"

John was going to just come toward them and attack head-on but took Lucas's command and started preparing.

The winds around him started generating furiously until they formed around his spear and hand, the winds now became solid looking and covered the whole spear and his hand.

The change in the atmosphere around made the firebird look toward John at its back. It was already making some screeching noise as if annoyed by what Lucas did, but now someone was manipulating winds in its territory.

While the bird changed its direction and was going to dash toward John who was looking at it with Spear ready to launch with a cold expression.

"You can't go there!" A voice came from behind and before the bird could change direction mid-air again, a long spear slashed at it horizontally.

At first, Lucas was going to stab but thought that he would get stuck with the bird for a few extra moments. Even if he was not feeling much heat but touching it was a different thing altogether. he didn't want to damage his spear with a single attack too. It had been with him the whole time, from the start of the first day of the 1st phase.

To Lucas's surprise, the slash of the spear got completed without trouble as if he was attacking the air. The firebird broke into two and Lucas could see John from the space between the two parts of the bird.

In a split second, the fire started spreading and the two split bird became one again. A loud screeching resounded everywhere as if telling that the damn thing was now completely pissed.

It moved up in the air away from the spear's range. Even John was not confident to hit the bird with his extra fast speed.

Lucas ran toward John with his eyes still on the damn bird moving up.

He grumbled while saying, "Can't believe the spear went right past the thing, how can we kill it if we can't even touch it? Is it even solid?"

"I don't think so, Lucas. I think... it's made of fire entirely." John said while looking up, the firebird finally stopped and looked down at the duo mockingly.

Suddenly, it made a screeching sound, the wings started moving faster and before they could react. Two balls made of fire materialized near each wing, they hovered near the wings that made the duo get pale with every second.

"S-Shit! This is a ranged attack! Run!" Lucas exclaimed with panic, he didn't want to become a roast from such a big ball of fire. It was double the size of what Sarah could make.

"You both come here! It's covered!" Ella said from inside the corridor. Lucas was tempted by the offer and was going to move there but a shout made him stop.

"NO! We can't risk her! Keep running and keep your eyes on them!" John said, he was running to the other side of the corridor exit where Ella was. In his mind, keeping her safe was greater than anything.

Lucas stopped and looked at the bird who was still at the same distance, the bird was very close to the tip of the dome. It may have been very far but if the bird's accuracy and perception's good then they may actually become a roast today. Lucas thought.

The bird looked at Lucas who was just standing and looking at it, a sense of arrogance filled it and Lucas didn't know why but he could feel it from those emerald colored eyes.

SWOOSH!

It shot one of the fireballs to the right toward Lucas who looked at the ball with calm.

'Little more...'

"Dodge, Lucas!" John shouted from the side.

'A little more...'

When the ball was roughly 10 feet away and was moving very fast, Lucas finally started moving to the left and out of the trajectory.

The fireball was big, the size of two basketballs together, even the gravity was moving against Lucas, making the speed even more with each second.

BANG!!

When the fireball fell to the ground, a loud sound resounded everywhere and the air bursts made Lucas fly toward the ground.

BANG!

He landed on his knees which made a huge impact on them, the knees even made a pop sound as if they were not moved for a long time.

"Ughhh... Fuck!" Lucas was getting pissed, he had no way of attacking the thing that was so far in the air and the only choice was to just run till it get down again.

The bird had no calm after making eye contact with Lucas and just threw the other one at him.

Lucas this time started moving when the fireball started moving toward him. He went to the side and Looked up seeing that the fireball was now falling at the same location only this time he was nowhere near.

All this was happening in a matter of seconds, Lucas had already been hit with 2 fireballs and more were being generated by the bird again. Another two were near the wings yet this time around, it threw the both of them together toward Lucas.

Both of them were moving at the same pace and direction. Lucas didn't have much of a choice but to run but something told him that he was not going to get out of this one.

"1!... 2!... 3!" A voice came from afar. Lucas didn't have anytime to look so he just gave a glance to the fireballs and kept running.

'Thank the gods this area is so big...'

Lucas stopped to take a breather, he looked again and saw that he was still close, the surface area had increased on which the blast would happen. The last one had left a big dark spot and the airwaves had made Luca literally fly for a few seconds.

The pressure on his knees was immense and he did not want to try it again or else he was confident that this time he would fall on his face battering it to a pulp in the process.

SHOOMM!!

A shrill voice resounded, the dome structure was making sounds echo inside the big chamber.

Lucas looked at it, his eyes widened after seeing a speedy silhouette making its way toward the fireball.

The attack looked so calculated that the silhouette was already at the place where the fireball was going to be in the next few seconds.

BHUP!

A pop sound came to everyone's ears and Lucas couldn't believe what he saw with his dear eyes.
