Chapter 3
Trust and Family:
Zyan is invited to the dining room as Grand Nana is serving dinner. She sits down as the room becomes quiet.
Grand Nana: Sally my dear; will you be so kind to lead us in prayers?
Sally: Sure Nana. God almighty, we thank you for this sumptuous meal you have provided for us, we thank you for keeping our Nana strong and healthy to be able to continue to take care of us, and showing us love. I pray that you'll bless her abundantly. I also thank you for keeping us alive and as a family. Thank you for the troublesome brothers you have given to me, and for my mother who loves us so much, I hope that one day my brothers and I will make her very proud. But most importantly, I thank you for Zyan. I always wanted a sister and you have answered my prayers. So, lord, I just want to say thank you, in Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
(And everyone says amen except Zyan, they begin to eat).
Camilla: So Zyan how's the food? Is it delicious?
Zyan: Yes, hmm. It's very delicious, thank you so much Camilla and you too Nana.
Nana: Oh, you're very welcome, dear. So dear, my Camilla told me you're from space.
Zyan: Yes, hmm. Yes, I'm from space.
Nana: Oh, that's lovely dear, where in space do you live? Is it Mars? Are you a Martian?
Zyan: No, my home world is Calvia.
Gabriel: Where is that exactly? Because we have only nine Planets, oh sorry actually we have eight, since Pluto isn't actually considered a planet.
Zyan: Umm... I don't really know how to explain it.
Camilla: Try us.
Zyan: Okay then, to put it simply, Calvia is located in the center of creation, a realm known as Yolvox, a place beyond time, all celestial beings, such as my people and other races of gods are found there. My people are unaffected by Aging. We are immortal, but we can die, if we're killed. My people are also the overseer of other gods; it was a duty that was placed on us by the Almighty.
Ben: The Almighty? You mean God with a capital G.
Zyan: Yes.
Gabriel: Are all women in Calvia as beautiful as you are?
Ben: Dude!
Gabriel: What? Come on, am I the only one who thinks this way about her? Huh I didn't think so. So Zyan, is there by any chance I can have a shot at being with a Calvian, you know someone of my age?
(Zyan chocks on her drink)
Camilla: Gabriel! Your sister is present.
Nana: What has come over you Boy?
(Ben slaps him on his Head).
Gabriel: Aw!
Ben: Dude that's not something you should be saying, you're still too young for that.
Zyan: No. it's okay, I'm flattered but. I wouldn't know because, my father never allowed me to mingle with people or to have friends.
Sally: Why's that Zyan?
Zyan: Because he wanted me to walk in his footsteps, and that meant having me train day and night to be the fiercest warrior to ever live.
Gabriel: Wow, I get it now! That's why you don't trust people.
Ben: Dude seriously, you need to stop talking.
Zyan: He's right, I was raised not to trust anyone, because I was born in a time when my people were at war, and my father needed me to always trust my instinct. He always used to say that "trust shouldn't be given, it should be earned, one's greatest enemy isn't the ones we don't trust but the one we do, the ones closest to us, because trusting people is a weakness".
Sally: That's not true, I mean he's right about earning trust and not giving it freely, but it's the people closest to us that help us reach our destiny. That's why friendship is an asset. Where there's true friendship, there'll automatically be trust, love and unity.
Gabriel: Wow sally.
Nana: That's well said my dear, well said.
(Camilla smiles at her daughter)
Nana: Zyan, what of your mother, how's she?
Zyan: My mother is dead. Hmm. she died protecting me against enemies of my people, she died right in front of me.
Ben: I'm so sorry to hear that.
Gabriel: Sorry Zyan.
Nana: I'm so sorry dear.
Zyan: Thank you.
Nana: Hm... I've been meaning to ask; do you have a husband?
(Zyan chocks on her drink)
Nana: Do you have a love interest?
Zyan: No, I'm neither married nor in any relationship, Hm... I'm still too young for that.
Nana: Oh, nonsense dear, sure you're young, but you have to meet someone, or you'll get dry down there.
Camilla: Mother!
Ben: Grand Nana, her people don't age.
Nana: Oh child, I'm 77 years old, I've lived longer than any of you on this table, and I can definitely say everybody grows old someday.
(Zyan smile, because Nana thinks she's older than she is)
Gabriel: Grand Nana, she's a god, her people are practically immortal beings.
Nana: Seems you know everything. Okay, Zyan dear, how old are you?
Zyan: I'm twenty-five thousand years old.
(Everyone stops in shock looking at Zyan).
After dinner, Camilla helps Grand Nana do the dishes, while Ben and Gabriel ensure that the farm animals are kept in their houses. Sally's sitting outside alone and Zyan joins her.
Zyan: Hey.
Sally: Hi Zyan.
Zyan: What are you doing out here all alone?
Sally: Nothing, I'm just thinking.
Zyan: Would you care to tell what's bothering you?
Sally: Sure, I'll love too. I'm just casting my mind back to the horrible scene. As we travelled down the road leading to our Grand nana's house, I saw a lot of poor people, kids like me, their living conditions made me sad. They live in slums; they have nothing, they can't even afford food and clothing, so tattered, dirty and hungry.
Zyan: Can I ask you a personal question?
Sally: Of course, Zyan.
Zyan: Why do you care so much about poor people?
Sally: Well, because, I can't imagine what they're going through, my family isn't rich, and life's kinda difficult in the big city, but we are surviving because my mother is very hard working, yet we have lots of challenges, I just can't sleep well at night knowing that although, sometimes what we eat isn't enough, there are some people that can't even afford what we have, and when I think about it makes me very sad. I wish I was rich. I mean, I want to work hard to get rich to alleviate their living conditions.
Zyan: I understand. You want to be rich so you can dedicate your wealth to poor people.
Sally: What! No, that's silly. Life has thought me that only a foolish person spends and gives all he has.
Zyan: What have you learnt about life? You're so young.
Sally: Zyan, one doesn't need to be elderly before being experienced in life; it only takes somebody who is humble and willing to learn. I want to be rich in order to inspire people, to let them know that I have their back, and help them stand on their own two feet, so that even if I'm not around, they can still survive without my help, because that's what makes a real hero.
Zyan: You are very wise Sally, really you are.
Sally: Thanks.
Zyan: If it makes you feel better Calvia isn't so different from Earth, we also have the very fortunate and the less fortunate.
Sally: But why has it always been like that? Why can't everyone be able to afford the things they want and desire?
Zyan: It is because, if everyone is equal then nobody is special, if everyone is equal, even in terms of resources, then no one is rich. I truly believe not everyone has the ability to earn or utilize resources given to them, because some people are just smarter than others, and all resources in the universe is Finite, and because it is finite, not everyone will have the opportunity to utilize it, only the strong and wise survive.
Sally: Oh, I understand now. But in the end, it's all vanity.
Zyan: How so?
Sally: I mean, the rich have everything but for a while, but when they die, they can't utilize their resources any longer. Okay for example, when a bird is alive it eats ants, but when the bird dies, ants eat the bird. No matter how powerful a person is, time is his master. Time and circumstances can change, nobody truly lives forever. That's why I don't devalue or hurt anyone. Time humbles everyone, and circumstances can change a person situation. One tree can make a million match sticks, but it takes only one match stick to burn down a million trees.
Zyan: How old are you again?
Sally: I'm eight, but I'll be Nine in two days.
Zyan: You are the wisest eight years old I've ever met and will ever meet in my life time.
(Ben and Gabriel return).
Ben: Hey guys, what are the two of you talking about?
Sally: Nothing, its girl talk, and unfortunately doesn't involve cars, or games and martial art.
Gabriel: Owe Kay?
Ben: Sally, it's late, you should definitely be in bed by now.
Sally: Okay.
(Ben carries his sister and Gabriel takes the wheelchair).
Sally: Good night Zyan.
Zyan: Good night, Sally, Ben, Gabriel.
Ben: Good night.
Gabriel: Good night my Goddess.
Zyan walks through the corn field and removes a metal disk, places it on her destroyed spaceship and starts repairing it.
