Chapter 9: Chapter 9
"What!" Roared the gold-teeth man angrily. "Are you not being ridiculous?"
"How?" Benji asked the man, unfazed by his outburst. "I am doing this for your own good and you call it ridiculous? Do you value your money more than your life?"
"You—" The man clenched his fists and decided not to say another word. It was the plump lady that took over.
"If really you are a hunter, please save us and we will pay you nicely," she said to Benji. Glancing at the gold-teeth man who was still angry, she whispered. "As long as we are alive, we can make back the money but if we die here, this boy would probably take all the money and live unharmed."
For a moment, the gold-teeth man seemed to reason with the lady. She was definitely right.
"Fine! Do what you can," he said to Benji who nodded with a smirk and then left the vehicle.
"No matter what, no one should step out of the bus or I won't bother saving your ass!" He warned them before walking towards the group of shadow dogs
'The system didn't tell me to defeat them but for money, I will do it.' He thought and held firmly his dagger.
Benji approached the pack of shadow dogs, his dagger at the ready. The dogs, sensing his confidence, growled and bared their teeth. But Benji was unfazed.
With a swift motion, he activated his Dash skill, increasing his speed by 25 percent. He darted towards the largest dog, his dagger flashing in the sunlight.
The dog lunged at him, its jaws wide open. But Benji was too fast. He dodged to the side, avoiding the dog's attack by mere inches. With a swift counterattack, he struck the dog's exposed flank, his dagger biting deep into its flesh.
The dog yelped in pain, stumbling backward as its pack mates closed in. But Benji was relentless. He weaved between the dogs, his dagger striking through and through.
The battle was intense but short-lived. Benji's superior speed and agility allowed him to dodge the dogs' attacks with ease, and his dagger struck true with deadly precision.
One by one, the shadow dogs fell to the ground, their bodies motionless. Benji stood victorious, his chest heaving with exertion.
The passengers watched in awe as Benji returned to the bus, his dagger still dripping with the dogs' blood.
The gold-teeth man nodded in respect, his earlier anger forgotten. "Well done, kid. I didn't know you would be this good."
The plump lady smiled, relief written all over her face. "Thank you, young man. We owe you one."
Benji smirked, sheathing his dagger. "Just pay me, and we're square."
The passengers laughed, and the tension was broken.
"Don't worry about that, we will definitely pay you," the gold-teeth man joyfully said. "But we don't have money with us, but rare items would do, isn't it?"
Benji frowned, he needed raw money more than those rare items but then, he had no other choice. Since he was heading to the black market, he could as well sell everything at once.
Seeing how silent he was, the passengers feared that he wouldn't accept their offers and it won't look good.
"It's fine that way, give them to me," he said and they sighed in relief.
"Very well then, I have here a teleportation stone," the plump lady said and brought a purple stone from who-knows-where and handed it to him. The purple stone is a rounded, oval-shaped object with a smooth, polished surface. The dominant color is a deep, rich purple, almost velvety in appearance.
'This is a rune stone,' Benji thought while observing the stone with keen eyes.
"I have a more rare item," the gold-teeth man proudly said and brought out a black cloak. "This is a mystical cloak woven from the silk of moonlight spiders." The fabric while staring at it, shimmers with a soft lunar light. "It's power is said to be able to grant its wearer the ability to move unseen and unheard."
Benji's eyes glittered, this item was rare and too good. With this cloak on, he would become invisible. He collected with a smile on his face. Even the gold-teeth man, seeing how happy Benji was felt satisfied and happy as well.
The other passengers soon offered their gifts to Benji and before they got to the town, he was already loaded.
When they finally arrived at the town, he waited for the passengers to leave and when they were all gone, he thought of how to hide all the items he was carrying.
"I can't possibly be carrying them like this," he thought aloud. "It was undoubtedly attract unwanted eyes."
[You can store them in your inventory]
"Really? Then do it!" Benji said and all the items with him vanished, only to be displayed by the system.
There, he saw all the items given to him by the passengers but what surprised him the most was the fact that there were other items there as well. A bottle of poison, a protection bangle, and a few mana crystals he got from defeating the goblins.
"Hmmm, I still have one hundred and eighty boxes to fill up, okay then."
There were a total of two hundred boxes in the inventory slot with twenty boxes already filled up.
"Hey kid," the driver of the vehicle called out to Benji from the outside.
Benji glanced at him and then got down from the vehicle. "Is there a problem, sir?" He asked the man.
"Not at all," the man waved his hands. "I am only a poor driver but I still want to appreciate you for how you saved us back there. If you hadn't done anything, I'd probably be dead and my daughter will be left to suffer alone."
Benji frowned slightly, he didn't feel there was any need for the man to say all these things... Besides, he didn't do it for free.
Seeing that Benji had gotten upset, the old man felt sad and worried. "I do not mean to get you upset," he said. "I don't have enough but take this." He brought out some money to give Benji but the latter refused instantly.
"Keep your money, I don't need it," he said and began to leave. "It may come in handy soon."
"Thank you, kid!" The man yelled as he watched him leave.
Benji as he walked around the busy town soon saw a shop selling items and went over to the place.
Inside was a young girl with orange hair and round glasses.
"Hello, cus, what can I help you with?" The girl asked as he entered into the store.
The store was pretty large with all sorts of items, weapons, and odd-looking crafts.
"I want to sell some stuffs," Benji replied. He was quite taken aback by how young the girl is and still was able to manage a place like that.
"Well, go ahead," she gestured him and he nodded and brought out all the items in his inventory except for the cloak, the poison, the teleportation stone, and protection bangle.
Seeing all the items, the girl's eyes widened behind her glasses.
"Wow, it seems you are a hunter," she whispered.
"Yeah," Benji replied and the girl nodded thoughtfully.
"I see, you've got a lot of rare items," she said and began to check them all out. After studying them, she began to place them one after the other on a weighing device. When she was through with the measurements, she adjusted her glasses and turned to him. "They cost about twenty billion."
Hearing twenty billion, Benji's eyes lit up but he forced himself to behave well so as to not make the girl see him as someone who hasn't seen that amount of money before. To put his pretense on max, he cleared his throat and frowned slightly.
"Twenty billion is too small. These items are rare and hard to come by, if you are not going to pay fifty billion for them, I might as well carry them and leave. There are other places I haven't visited yet."
'You greedy bastard!' The girl cursed inwardly. Though she was wearing a smiling face, her insides were burning. These items were rare and she had to be honest, they cost that much but she thought she could deceive him because he was a kid. If she gave him just twenty billion, the remaining thirty would be hers... Her plans had utterly failed. She didn't know that there would someone out there who is as greedy as she was.
"You are wasting my time, mam. I don't have all the day to waste," Benji told her.
The girl was reluctant but she knew that her reluctance could cause her to loose greatly because, if she buys these rare items from him, she could actually auction them at even a higher price. There was no time to think about the thirty billion she had lost whereas she could actually gain a larger amount of money.
"Fine, let's have it your way," she said and went inside the store. Later, she came out carrying a two office boxes. "Here you go, don't forget to patronize me, alright?"
"Noted," Benji replied as he opened the boxes to check the contents. "Bye then," he said and carried the boxes, hurrying out of the store like his life depended on it. Meanwhile, the girl watched him leave, an unknown expression written on her face.
He was unaware of what was about to happen as he was too focused on his newly acquired wealth.
'Fifty billion, hah. It's enough to cover all my debts now.' He smiled inwardly. Finally, he could rest from all the troubles and focus on improving his sister's health.
As he walked down the street, he noticed that people were staring at him the unusual way and he didn't like it. It crossed his mind that was because of the boxes he was carrying. Then he thought about his system's inventory.
"System, is it possible to store all my money in the inventory?"
[It is possible]
The reply made Benji beam. At last, his money would be safe.
"Store them away then."
The boxes in his hand vanished and a message with a some figures displayed before his face.
[50,000, 000, 000 coins]
"That's more like it," he said and continued his journey. Now, he didn't care much if people glared or watched him.
----
Now, it was night already and Benji was yet to travel. He didn't want to journey at night so he decided to lodge in a hotel room.
The one closest to the black market was still open so he went in to check it out.
As soon as he entered, the attenders approached him.
"Hello, sir, what can we do for you?" The young boy asked him.
Benji glanced around the room, the people there were mostly rich people dressed in fine clothes. They were all minding their businesses, either eating or drinking while watching the young women that were dancing. No one had time for anyone.
Benji kinda liked it.
"I need a room, how much does it cost?" He asked the boy.
After studying Benji from his head to the toe, the boy replied. "With all due respect, I do not think you will be able to pay that amount."
"And what is that supposed to mean?" Benji asked him.
"From the way you are dressed, you look like someone who can barely buy a day's meal."
