Leo Carter: The Accidental Time Traveler of Ancient Rome

Chapter 29: The Runes of Power

Antony stood nearby, scanning the room for any sign of further ambushes, his sword still in hand.

As the tension began to ease, a faint glow emanated from Leo's hands, drawing his attention.

System Notification:

New Reward Unlocked: Rune-Blade of Vigilance

A finely crafted blade etched with ancient runes. This weapon enhances agility and precision and has a chance to inflict Weaken on enemies.

Leo gazed at the now manifested blade in his hand, it was sleek and elegant, its surface etched with runes that pulsed with a faint bluish light. The craftsmanship was nothing like he had ever seen; it was as if it were from another time, futuristic, and yet somehow, ancient.

Antony drew nearer, looking into the weapon, his brow lowering. "What in Jupiter's name is that?"

"It's.....complicated," Leo muttered, recognizing just how hollow the explanation would sound to a person like Antony. "Let's just say it's...a gift."

Sweeping his hand through the air again, the translucent system panel reappeared, listing his stats and his skills.

Talking to the air once more?" Antony said, grinning.

"Just. strategizing," Leo said with a grin, closing the window. He experimented, lifting the blade; it was lighter than he expected, though sturdy-looking.

Antony whistled low. "If you are going to draw that, draw it like you know how. Rome has too many dukes for amateurs at swords.".

Leo proved more confident. "Don't worry. This thing feels like it was made for me." Antony gestured toward the door. His face was grim.

"Cassius got away, but his plot remains. We have to act before he grows in strength.". Leo nodded, his mind already racing with possibilities.

The blade was now an extension of his will and the skills he unlocked began to form a very cohesive arsenal.

The conspirators played a very dangerous game. Now, armed with the new weapon and growing power, Leo was ready to play too.
