Chapter 19: Chapter 15 Olfactory Enhancement and Uncle's Summoning (Request for Follow-up Read)
"Is this it big time?"
Brian scratched his head, trying to connect with the light point in his mind.
The light point flickered in his consciousness and vanished in an instant.
The next moment,
Brian went completely black and collapsed stiffly onto the sofa, unconscious...
Just as Brian passed out,
In a basement warehouse in an Italian neighborhood,
Brian's uncle, Billy, knelt on the ground, the foul-smelling blood slowly sliding down his grotesque muscles, gathering into a spotted circle beneath him.
Around the circle were scattered fragments of flesh and bones.
"Huff~"
Billy spat out the remnants of flesh and blood in his mouth, exhaling a long breath of stench.
He twisted his neck, causing a cracking sound, before comfortably waving at the surveillance camera above.
After a moment's wait,
A series of sounds from metal scraping against metal could be heard.
An unkempt old man with white hair, pushing a small cart, came up to Billy's side and threw him a clean towel, "Billy, congratulations on staying conscious through this ordeal."
Hearing this, a trace of fear flashed through Billy's eyes.
Without the old man's help, he would likely have lost his sanity and truly become a beast of desire.
Just,
He made it through this time.
But what about next time?
Sometimes, he couldn't understand whether the changes occurring to him were a gift or a curse.
Billy silently wiped off the clinging chunks of flesh and blood from his body and spoke in a low voice, "When is the next Mutation likely to happen to me?"
The old man shook his head, "It's different for everyone, it could be six months, a few years, even more than a decade. Your condition will stay stable, so you must take this rare opportunity to capture enough subjects."
Billy nodded, "Understood."
Leaving the modified underground warehouse,
Billy, now dressed in a clean suit, called out to his son, "How is Brian doing?"
Billy had two sons and one daughter.
His eldest son had died early in New York.
His daughter, currently developing a career in Hollywood, was a minor eighteen-line star.
The one before him was Billy's second son—Fooly Kamor.
Fooly was twenty-two this year, 1.8 meters tall, bald, with fierce eyes and a skull earring in his left ear; his exposed skin was covered in tattoos, nearly having the words "bad guy" engraved on his face.
Standing in front of his father, who was a head taller than him,
Fooly lowered his head and whispered, "Father, Brian hasn't shown any abnormalities since that night. His daily routine is very regular. He even stopped his part-time job. He looks much healthier than before."
"Any changes at all?"
Billy furrowed his brows deeply upon hearing this.
That can't be!
Could all those unfortunate people who took in Brian more than a decade ago and died horribly just have experienced accidents?
After some thought,
Billy then said to his son, "Understood. Have Brian come home tonight, I need to speak to him. Also, tell the cook to prepare more meat for me every day."
"Alright, Father."
Fooly nodded and left as if fleeing.
He couldn't tell if it was an illusion,
but he felt that his father, who had been absent for many days, seemed much more oppressive upon his return.
...
The next day,
Brian climbed groggily off the couch.
After drinking a few cups of hot water,
he finally felt much better.
Brian washed his face with cold water. Seeing that it was still early, he sat back down on the sofa to ponder everything that had happened last night.
Yesterday,
He understood the meaning represented by the Light Ball as soon as his consciousness touched those two light points.
One was called Olfactory Enhancement.
The other was called Concentration.
Both were talent-based Gifts.
However, Brian could only choose one.
Besides,
There were no death memories like before.
It was Brian's first time encountering a talent-based Gift.
Thus, he felt conflicted.
The first talent was easy to understand; it was likely that choosing it would grant him the sense of smell of a dog.
As for the second talent,
Brian was somewhat baffled.
Concentration?
He had never heard of a dog being able to concentrate light.
For safety's sake,
Brian ultimately chose Olfactory Enhancement.
The subsequent unconsciousness was due to the talent merging with his body and modifying it.
"Holy shit!"
"Enhancement!"
Brian suddenly remembered this and hurriedly rushed into the bathroom.
He frantically examined his nose in the mirror until he was sure there were no abnormalities and then he breathed a sigh of relief.
That's a relief!
His appearance hadn't changed!
Otherwise, just imagine, having a dog's nose on his face...
Even thinking about it was frightening.
Wouldn't he become a poor version of a kobold?
Just...
Just as Brian started to relax, he slightly furrowed his brows.
What about the Gift of talent?
He couldn't tell any difference in his sense of smell from before.
Just as this thought arose in Brian,
he felt a slight itch in his nose, and then, various smells hidden in the bathroom were captured by his olfactory organs and rushed into his mind.
"Holy shit!"
Brian covered his mouth and started retching.
He had never imagined that his seemingly clean bathroom hid so many odors: the smell of urine, the smell of excrement, seven or eight different types of women's perfume, over a dozen different body odors...
It took several minutes,
Before Brian began to gradually adapt to this incredible sense of smell.
