Chapter 26: Chapter 20: The New Colleague, Explosion! (Two in One)
"Guys," Brian began, "this is the first meeting of our sixth reserve unit."
As soon as Team Leader Susan started the meeting, she immediately displayed a sharpness different from before: "My name is Susan. You can call me team leader, 'big sister,' or just by my name—that's all fine. Now, I need you all to introduce yourselves."
After finishing, she glanced at Brian.
Brian was no rookie to the workplace and caught on immediately, standing up to address everyone: "Hello, everyone. My name is Brian. I was formerly a forensic assistant at the Forensic Bureau, skilled in body examination and crime scene investigation. I should be able to offer some help in the upcoming assessments."
Clap clap clap~
Susan led the applause.
The other three clapped along.
The most enthusiastic among them was the strong man who had given Brian a bear hug before.
This guy, while clapping, turned towards Brian with a smile, looking very warm and approachable.
The second to introduce himself was the older black man among them.
He looked to be in his sixties, slightly shorter in stature, with a tattoo from the side of his ear to his neck—a portrait of a woman, likely someone important to the old man.
What drew the most attention was the old man's attire.
He was wearing a pilot's leather jacket, deep blue jeans, and what seemed like a pair of signature brand high-top basketball shoes on his feet.
Besides that,
A metal dog tag hung from the black man's chest.
Brian recognized that dog tag.
Because it was the 'King of Glory' game's top player honor medal.
King of Glory, that was the game his former colleague Tom at the Forensic Bureau played.
Somewhat similar to Warcraft from his previous life, it was the most popular computer game of the moment, without question.
Brian didn't think much of it.
That medal was probably just a replica made by game enthusiasts.
After all, he couldn't imagine a game that demanded extremely fast hand speed would have a yearly top player who was a man in his sixties or seventies.
The old man stood up, coughed twice, and then slowly said, "You can call me Old Hardenn. I'm a long-time cop, although I spent most of my time in logistics. I know a little about everything and am quite familiar with some of the unspoken rules within the government and police departments."
On hearing this, Susan happily clapped her hands: "Very impressive. I believe your experience will help us avoid many detours in the future."
Everyone else clapped along in response.
Next,
The robust man who had warmly hugged Brian stood up.
"Fellas, hello, my name is Ivan, I'm 29 years old. Before coming here, I was a detective at the Detective Bureau. Moreover, I'm proficient in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, and I'm quite competent in handling the usual fugitive cases!"
Ivan was a tall white man, nearly one meter ninety in height, with bulging muscles all over, long blond hair, and a slightly unkempt beard, exuding a thoroughly masculine and charismatic aura.
Such an evidently tough guy could really give his teammates a sense of security.
Thinking he may need to rely on Ivan to take bullets for him in the future, Brian immediately cast a friendly gaze his way.
It was Old Hardenn sitting next to Brian who widened his eyes in surprise.
Licking his dry, thick lips, his voice trembling slightly, he said, "You're Ivan, the Ivan from the Teddy detective duo?"
"The Teddy duo?"
Team Leader Susan at the other end of the meeting table voiced her confusion.
Noticing Ivan looking at him with a 'friendly' gaze from across the table, the savvy older man immediately responded vaguely: "Somewhat famous. They're very good at solving cases."
Hearing this, pleasure rose in Susan's heart.
She truly had a good eye!
She smiled warmly at the last person: "I've looked over the files and know that you were Ivan's colleague, so are you also a member of the Teddy duo, Lo?"
The remaining young white man stood up and nodded: "Yes, Team Leader Susan, my name is Glenn, Glenn Michael. I used to work with Ivan. I'm not great at close combat, but my gun skills are decent."
He emphasized his words when he mentioned gun skills, revealing a sense of self-assurance.
Brian silently assessed Glenn.
Glenn was about the same height as Old Hardenn, around one meter seventy-five, white, slim, with a respectable face and a righteous demeanor—someone who looked reliable.
As for this, Brian nodded silently.
It was apparent.
The colleagues this time were all very skilled.
Maybe.
He was the only husky muddling his way into this group.
He had to work hard!
...
With the introductions complete,
Susan began the true content of the meeting: "You've all seen the email and should know that we only temporarily hold NW's law enforcement authority; in fact, in this batch of assessments for NW, there are six reserve units like ours, and all of us are auxiliary groups."
"Are there official groups, too?"
Brian asked curiously.
He thought of his Forensic Bureau colleagues who hadn't appeared at Ace Base.
Susan nodded: "Yes, those people are professionals from various industries who have replaced the previous Detective Bureau's Robbery and Homicide Division (major cases team). As for us, if we complete the coming assessments, we'll also move from reserve to regular status, divide our territorial responsibilities, and will be provided with an official office location."
When she mentioned replacing the 'Robbery and Homicide Division,'
She looked at Ivan and Glenn curiously.
Their files were truly outstanding.
She didn't understand why such excellent people hadn't received notice of direct transfers, but instead ended up at Ace Base.
