Light Devil Fruit in Tales of Demons and Gods

Chapter 4: 4. Plans

-Snow Wind Family's Training Ground-

A 7-year-old boy sat cross-legged on the ground, his eyes closed as he focused on every movement around him. He had been sitting there for over an hour without moving an inch. Finally, after another hour, he opened his eyes.

"I thought it would be easier to reawaken Observation Haki," Ye Xinghan muttered, furrowing his brows. Back in the world of One Piece, Observation Haki had been like a sixth sense to him—something he could use effortlessly.

But now, it felt dull, like a blunt knife waiting to be sharpened. And the best whetstone for honing it was a near-death experience. Without such an extreme trigger, it would take a long time to fully reawaken his Haki.

From his understanding, Ye Xinghan hypothesized that all forms of Haki were directly tied to the soul. Any disturbance in the soul would significantly affect the state of one's Haki. This explained why, after transmigrating, he had lost all the progress he had made with Haki in the One Piece world.

He guessed that the stronger the soul, the faster one could relearn Haki. Of course, a strong body was still necessary for Armament Haki, but a powerful soul would allow it to last longer, recover faster, and greatly enhance its offensive and defensive capabilities.

Fortunately, this new world he had been transmigrated into was one of cultivation, where strengthening the soul was common practice. In the world of Tales of Demons and Gods (TDG), cultivating one's soul was essential, especially for those who aspired to become powerful demon spiritualists.

Ye Xinghan pulled out a scroll and a porcelain bottle, both gifts from Ye Xiao after he had recovered fully. Remarkably, it had taken him only two days to recover completely after transmigrating.

The scroll contained a cultivation technique called Divine Yang Power, which utilized excess Yang energy to nourish muscles, tendons, and bone marrow, making the practitioner an exceptional body cultivator while simultaneously cultivating their soul realm. Though the technique was decent for his current state, it was nothing compared to the techniques introduced by Nie Li. Still, it was better than having nothing.

The porcelain bottle contained Soul Assembling Pills, which were designed to enhance the efficiency of cultivation for a set period. However, ordinary people could only absorb about a tenth of the pill's potential.

"Let's see how well these work together," Ye Xinghan murmured, reading the cultivation chant on the scroll before swallowing one of the pills. He closed his eyes and began greedily absorbing the surrounding spiritual energy.

After about 30 minutes, he opened his eyes and frowned.

"I kind of expected not to see any improvement in soul force on the first day of practicing this technique, but the pill's effect only lasted 30 minutes before wearing off? That's completely different from what I remember," Ye Xinghan muttered. The pill's effects were supposed to last for hours, even if only a small fraction of its power was absorbed.

But it was unthinkable that the Alchemist Guild would send a counterfeit pill—especially one they had personally delivered to the Snow Wind Family's doorstep.

It was hardly worth the exorbitant price of 6,000 Demon Spirit Coins (DSC). For context, the annual income of an average commoner's family was around 3,000 DSC. Only slightly wealthier commoners or families with a bronze-rank fighter could manage an annual income of 6,000 DSC.

Ye Xinghan, or rather the body's original owner, didn't have that kind of money either. Coming from a branch family, most of the income was funneled toward the family's main branch. This dynamic often led to disputes when the main family wasn't strong enough to assert its authority and protect its resources.

Ye Xinghan felt a headache brewing. He had assumed that being transmigrated into a top-tier family meant he wouldn't have to work hard for resources. But with the results he had seen in his cultivation so far, it was clear the main family wouldn't support him if he didn't turn out to be a genius. Supporting him would feel like throwing money into a failed investment.

He couldn't entirely blame them, though. They didn't know what he did—that the color of the soul realm had no relation on real potential. Since Ye Xinghan hadn't yet tested the color of his soul realm, there was a looming risk that, if he turned out to have a red soul (the worst possible result), the main family would have wasted their resources and could only lament their loss.

"Sigh. No matter what world you live in, power comes first, and money second," Ye Xinghan muttered to himself as various money-making ideas started brewing in his mind. Thankfully, he was from Earth, and Earth's unique culture could easily be monetized in this world.

Food.

During the few days since his transmigration, Ye Xinghan had learned that the city's food wasn't particularly good. To most people, food was merely a necessity, not something worth spending much money on. However, there were surely many ingredients that were underutilized, especially given that Glory City was situated atop a mountain.

This was his opportunity.

The problem, however, was that he couldn't focus on cultivation if all his time was spent managing a business. Ye Xinghan fell into deep thought. Based on the future events described in the novel, the best course of action for now would be to find an ally to help him execute his plans.

"An ally, huh?" Ye Xinghan murmured, his thoughts sharpening. "I think they'll do for now… the Winged Dragon Xiao Family."
