Light Devil Fruit in Tales of Demons and Gods

Chapter 8: 8. Devil Fruit Versatility

Since it was still very early, Ye Xinghan quietly returned to his room and slipped into bed. He took a brief nap to recover his energy after the previous night's hunt.

About three hours later, a knock at the door woke him up.

"Excuse me, young master." A maid entered the room, carrying a full breakfast set.

Ye Xinghan sat up in bed, yawning. Although he wasn't particularly hungry after devouring a large meal the night before, he decided to eat anyway to avoid raising suspicion.

After finishing his meal, he dismissed the maid and resumed studying ancient languages.

Before the Dark Ages, countless human empires and languages existed. However, the ancestors who survived and built Glory City had only managed to preserve a small portion of that knowledge.

Ye Xinghan understood he couldn't change the past. The best he could do was learn as quickly as possible without neglecting his cultivation.

"Wait... learn fast?" He frowned. There was nothing faster than the speed of light—not even gravity (technically it was the same). And Ye Xinghan, as the wielder of ultimate light, controlled that very power.

'If I can make my hands or feet move faster by channeling my devil fruit's ability, can I apply the same principle to my brain?' His eyes widened as the idea struck him. The theory seemed plausible, making him eager to test it.

Sitting in a meditative pose, Ye Xinghan focused on relaxing as much as possible.

This experiment was risky—after all, the brain was a vital organ. One wrong move could leave him dead.

"A normal human's nerve conduction velocity is around 50 to 60 meters per second, with the highest potential being about 20% faster than that. Meanwhile, the speed of light is approximately 300,000 kilometers per second—a staggering difference."

"Electric signals generated by brain cells travel through neural pathways, ultimately reaching other cells or parts of the body. Theoretically, if the speed of these electrochemical signals could be enhanced, the brain's capabilities would also improve," Ye Xinghan mused silently.

"But the gap between a normal human nervous system and the speed of light is over a million times. If I unleash the devil fruit's full power, my brain would likely rupture instantly."

"Alright, let's try this."

Taking a deep breath, Ye Xinghan activated his devil fruit power at the lowest possible level, barely a flicker. He carefully directed the energy toward his brain.

He picked up the ancient language book and skimmed through yesterday's lesson.

"Success!" Ye Xinghan smiled inwardly, not daring to channel more energy than he already had.

The reason he called it a success was simple: he could now understand the words and content of the book more easily.

While it wasn't like having a photographic memory, he could definitely feel smarter than before.

"Just a tiny, tiny bit of energy, and the result is beyond my expectations," Ye Xinghan chuckled softly. If his brain's capabilities had improved, then his reaction speed and instincts had likely improved as well.

Satisfied with the results, Ye Xinghan immersed himself in learning. Time was tight, and he couldn't bet his fate on whether Nie Li would reincarnate or not.

He needed to raise his power as quickly as possible, and the most important step now was mastering ancient languages.

Ye Xinghan understood that a vast amount of knowledge awaited discovery. For instance, the Snow Wind Family possessed countless ancient books and scrolls obtained from explorations. Unfortunately, very few people could understand the ancient empire languages.

If that knowledge were accessible, Glory City might survive the demon beast hordes even without Nie Li's help.

"Sigh, there's no point in complaining about things beyond my control. Let's keep learning…"

After reading and studying five ancient empire books, Ye Xinghan finally felt tired. The human brain had its limits, after all. However, he suspected that higher cultivation would extend those limits.

A seven-year-old finishing five ancient books in just a few hours was already an unprecedented achievement.

Ye Xinghan called for a maid and asked for a glass of cold water.

"Ah, it's good to be a young master. There's always someone ready to serve you," Ye Xinghan thought, sipping the water and feeling refreshed.

"Ah yes, you—Ying'er, right? Could you call Head Servant Feng to come here? Oh, and take this glass as well. Thank you." He handed her the empty glass.

"Understood, young master. Please excuse me," the maid replied, bowing before leaving the room.

Shortly after, Head Servant Feng entered the room and bowed deeply.

"Do you have any requests, young master?"

"Yes, could you arrange for a three-star bronze rank fighter for me?" Ye Xinghan asked, tilting his head slightly.

"Young master, isn't it a bit early for you to spar with a three-star bronze rank fighter?" Head Servant Feng asked cautiously.

"No, I want to test something new." Ye Xinghan hopped off the bed and stretched.

"Alright then."
