Chapter 201: The Seven Deadly Sins and the Lullaby of Rest
"After all this time, my ancient god bloodline is still a fake..."
Rosen's mouth twitched.
While complaining, he began to think about how to resolve the conflict between the two bloodlines in his body.
Literally speaking, the fake ancient god blood created from the incomplete primitive human blood should be inferior to the pure primitive human blood. After all, this is an extraordinary bloodline that can only be nurtured by the power of the World Tree.
But in fact, after careful comparison, Rosen found that the blood of the fake ancient gods was not inferior to the blood of primitive humans.
The reason is simple. Many things are not inherently more powerful just because they are older, unless a supernatural system is in decline.
The ancient god civilization wasn't weak. They dared to name their engineered bloodline after ancient gods because their creation surpassed the original. Therefore, the ancient god bloodline is not inferior to the primitive human bloodline at all.
It was precisely because both bloodlines were too powerful and neither could suppress the other that they constantly clashed in his body.
Faced with this dilemma, Rosen could think of only one solution.
The blood of the ancient gods that originally flowed in his veins needed to be drained, leaving space for the blood of primitive humans.
As for the ancient god bloodline, it would be transferred into the extraordinary source of the aristocratic sequence, devouring the demon god bloodline that was originally attached to that source. In this way, Rosen could have two separate bloodlines: one integrated into his body, and one residing in the extraordinary source.
As Rosen made this decision, the two extraordinary bloodlines in his body began to separate.
The ancient god bloodline, now fused with the extraordinary source, launched an all-out assault on the demon god bloodline.
Originally, it would have taken years for the ancient god bloodline to completely devour the demon god bloodline, but the primitive human bloodline aided in the process. It was now estimated that the demon god bloodline would be eradicated in two years at most.
Time passed swiftly—two weeks, in which Rosen painted two more ancient war tree pictures.
Amy already had her share of war tree power, and now it was Alicia's turn. The more he painted, the greater the number of war treemen under his command.
At the end of these two weeks, the ancient god bloodline had fully occupied the noble extraordinary source essence previously inhabited by the demon god bloodline.
Furthermore, the noble extraordinary source essence, which had once been dispersed into countless tiny particles throughout Rosen's body, condensed into a single marble-sized heart core located in his heart.
The Hunter's Extraordinary Essence, previously represented as a heart-shaped card, now orbited this core.
Rosen carefully examined the heart core and discovered that the awakening level of his ancient god bloodline had reached one percent.
Although there was no fundamental change to the world gene bank, the ancient god bloodline, after devouring the demon god bloodline, retained the Seven Deadly Sins powers and even activated them fully.
[Seven Deadly Sins: The Authority of True God]
[Attributes: The Seven Deadly Sins can transform the soul, generating seven soul organs: Gluttonous Stomach, Greedy Hands, Lazy Feet, Seductive Tongue, Wrathful Eyes, Envious Heart, and Prideful Soul, each mastering corresponding authority rules.]
Rosen could feel that his soul had undergone a complete transformation.
In this era, both the body and soul had been studied extensively.
Flesh-and-blood beings often focused on spirituality, supplementing it with physical studies. Non-flesh-and-blood beings prioritized spirituality and supplemented it with soul studies.
Before the birth of the spiritual system, the soul held an equal status to spirituality.
But with the arrival of spirituality—a power derived from the soul, life, and consciousness—it became the superior essence for intelligent life. Since then, the soul's importance diminished, primarily serving to protect spirituality.
However, the Seven Deadly Sins were still derived from Sequence 0 demons.
As such, the transformation of Rosen's soul was incredibly potent, and his soul strength had increased many times over.
The four soul organs—Gluttonous Stomach, Greedy Hands, Lazy Feet, and Seductive Tongue—remained mostly unchanged, still limited to affecting Sequence 2 and below.
The real changes lay in the three new soul organs.
First was the Wrathful Eyes, which could provoke uncontrollable anger in those who met his gaze. This ability was both powerful and dangerous—provoking the wrong enemy without sufficient strength would be suicidal. But if used effectively, it could drive even the strongest minds to madness.
Next was the Envious Heart. With it, Rosen could sense envy in others, force envy upon them, or even erase envy altogether.
Lastly, the Prideful Soul—the core of the Seven Deadly Sins. It had transformed Rosen's entire soul structure.
The Prideful Soul was simple yet powerful: the more arrogant Rosen felt, the stronger his soul became. Additionally, it allowed him to mix the powers of the Seven Deadly Sins together.
For example, combining Wrathful Eyes with Envious Heart would provoke both rage and envy simultaneously.
Or combining Gluttonous Stomach with Greedy Hands would allow Rosen not only to consume but also to refine and control what he devoured.
This was the true essence of the Seven Deadly Sins—only when their powers worked in harmony could they reach their full potential.
As the ancient god bloodline continued to awaken, the power of the Seven Deadly Sins would grow in tandem.
Rosen familiarized himself with these changes before turning his attention to the primitive human bloodline.
The primitive human bloodline's key trait was compatibility. While the ancient god bloodline focused on devouring and fusion, the primitive human bloodline focused on inclusiveness.
The two bloodlines clashed simply because they were too similar in nature.
But the compatibility of the primitive human bloodline extended beyond blood—it could also integrate laws and authority.
Any authority Rosen possessed could be infused into the primitive human bloodline and driven directly by his vitality.
This meant that, theoretically, he could fuse the Seven Deadly Sins with his primitive human bloodline, integrating their seven powers into his very life force.
After reaching Sequence 5 in the Hunter Sequence, Rosen had not yet further developed his Nen ability.
This presented an excellent opportunity to integrate the power of the Seven Deadly Sins into his Nen abilities.
The integration process went smoothly, and Rosen naturally developed new mental abilities:
[Thought Ability LV7]: Able to manipulate one's own life force (qi), combining spiritual generation and control of thought energy.
[Divine Power Characteristics]: Grants the mind the ability to integrate the authority of various laws.
[Divine Power Characteristics]: Ability to permanently consume mental energy to strengthen one's soul and body.
[Theocratic Characteristics]: Creation, Seven Deadly Sins.
[Divine Power Products]: God-Slaying Crossbow, Gluttonous Beast, God-Hunting Magic Eye, Golden Apple, Devil Seed.
Spiritual energy rose in Rosen's hand, condensing into a seed the size of a grain of rice.
This was the Gluttonous Demon Seed, containing the power of Gluttony. The seed pulsed faintly with dark energy, and Rosen could feel the primal hunger sealed within. This was not merely a tool but a fragment of raw, chaotic authority, a spark of something ancient and insatiable.
The Island of Greed, where Rosen now stood, was home to millions of prisoners. These individuals were politicians, former leaders, and rebels who had opposed the Lord God Church's iron-fisted rule over humanity. Cast away to this isolated landmass, they were forced to fend for themselves in a harsh, resource-starved environment. The island, once a prosperous and thriving hub, had been reduced to a chaotic wasteland where survival of the fittest reigned supreme.
Rosen's eyes scanned the scattered groups of people fighting over scraps of food and water. His attention settled on a middle-aged man with a large belly. The man's clothes were once luxurious but now hung loosely on his frail frame, stained with dirt and sweat. Rosen inspected his details:
Age: 45
Position: Mayor of a small city in a small country.
Background: Known for his obsession with gourmet food, he inadvertently boosted the city's culinary industry, making it a hotspot for travelers seeking fine dining.
Downfall: As his obsession grew darker, his palate turned depraved. His desires crossed the final taboo—human flesh. When his secret was discovered, he was tried and exiled to the Island of Greed.
The mayor now sat slumped against a boulder, his once-gleaming eyes now dull and sunken. He was weak and malnourished, his large belly hollow and deflated. In this overpopulated wasteland, even finding stale bread was a luxury. The man, who had once gorged on delicacies, was now on the verge of death from hunger.
Without hesitation, Rosen flicked his finger, and the Gluttonous Demon Seed shot forward, embedding itself into the mayor's chest. The man convulsed violently, clutching at his heart as the seed fused with his body. His eyes turned bloodshot, and his stomach let out a deep, guttural growl. Hunger consumed every fiber of his being.
In a frenzied state, the mayor fell to his knees and began shoveling dirt into his mouth. He chewed and swallowed the soil with desperate fervor. Shockingly, his body digested the dirt. The Gluttonous Demon Seed in his stomach processed it, extracting every trace of energy and converting it into raw vitality. Slowly, the man's gaunt face regained some color, and his frail limbs became sturdier.
Rosen observed calmly as the mayor's vitality surged, and a faint glow of Nen energy surrounded his body. Awakening Nen was an arduous process, yet under the influence of the Gluttonous Demon Seed, the mayor had crossed that threshold in mere moments.
Satisfied with the result, Rosen activated the seed once again. The mayor's hunger intensified. His body trembled violently, and his eyes rolled back into his skull as primal instinct overwhelmed reason. Finding no nutritious food nearby, the mayor turned to his own flesh. His trembling hands grasped his arm, and without hesitation, he bit down. Blood sprayed across his chest as he gnawed through sinew and bone, chewing and swallowing his own flesh.
His Nen aura flared violently as his mental ability developed in response to his sheer survival instinct. Yet the hunger only grew stronger. His body began consuming itself at an accelerated rate until, finally, only his head remained. Below his neck, there was nothing but a writhing black stomach sac, pulsating with dark energy.
Driven by insatiable hunger, the head detached from the writhing sack and began floating through the air, its hollow eyes fixed on the nearest human settlement.
But Rosen had seen enough. With a wave of his hand, he forcibly extracted the Gluttonous Demon Seed from the mayor's remains. As the seed left his body, it absorbed every last drop of the mayor's spiritual energy, including his soul. The floating head turned gray, brittle, and finally crumbled into dust.
The Gluttonous Demon Seed in Rosen's hand now throbbed with far more power than before. Its energy had doubled, and its insatiable hunger seemed even more palpable.
This was just one experiment, yet the results were undeniable.
If Rosen were to plant the Gluttonous Demon Seeds in billions of people, each individual could awaken their Nen abilities through consumption alone. Their abilities would grow, and in doing so, they would feed the seeds, which Rosen could later harvest.
The cycle would be endless. When someone died naturally, their Gluttonous Demon Seed could be reclaimed, further amplifying Rosen's power.
But Rosen was no fool. He understood that raw power was only one side of the equation. The Seven Deadly Sins were not purely negative forces—they had nuances, dualities that could bring balance if wielded correctly.
Gluttony could drive people to ruin, but it could also cure anorexia and nourish the weak.
Greed could inspire theft and corruption, but it could also push people to strive for success and wealth.
Laziness could lead to stagnation, yet it could also drive innovation, motivating humanity to create tools that eased labor.
Rosen's role was not merely to spread the Seven Deadly Sins, but to balance and regulate them.
For those consumed by greed, he would grant humility.
For the cowardly, he would instill courage.
For the arrogant, he would bring humility.
In doing so, Rosen envisioned a harmonious world, not one devoid of sin, but one where sin and virtue coexisted in balance.
However, creating billions of Seven Deadly Sins Seeds would require immense time, energy, and resources. It was a monumental task, but one that Rosen was determined to undertake.
For the next five years, Rosen devoted himself entirely to this cause, perfecting the seeds within the Main Holy City.
But there were consequences he hadn't foreseen. Over time, he noticed that the seeds distorted spirituality. Generations raised under the influence of the seeds could become spiritually hollow—automatons devoid of emotion or creativity.
To prevent this, Rosen implemented strict criteria. Only those who met specific requirements could fuse with a Seven Deadly Sins Seed. Additionally, once someone developed their Nen ability, they could fuse it with the seed, reducing its harmful effects on their soul.
Gradually, the seeds became known not as Demon Seeds, but as Holy Seeds—divine gifts that purified sin.
Faith in Rosen grew exponentially. The elderly, the sick, and the weak flocked to the Holy City, hoping to receive a seed and restore their strength.
With humanity finally stabilized, Rosen turned his gaze outward—to the Dark Continent.
The human world of the Ancient God Realm is back on track, and Rosen is prepared to deal with the alien races in the Dark Continent.
These alien races are not completely adversarial.
Some of these races possess the flames of civilization, and these flames have been nurtured by the Flames of Miracles.
Though it is impossible to fully control these alien races, Rosen could manage them indirectly by leveraging the torch of civilization.
Only those alien races without a civilization inheritance need to be conquered outright.
However, before launching a crusade, Rosen plans to refine the Flame of Miracles.
To refine the Flame of Miracles, the bare minimum is the spiritual strength of Sequence 3, plus an immense amount of luck.
After mastering the ancient god's true world, Rosen clearly felt his luck had multiplied many times over.
Thus, luck was no longer an issue—what he lacked was spiritual strength.
The Seven Deadly Sins transformed his soul, naturally increasing his spiritual strength from 56 points to 57 points.
In addition to the nine-point increase in power from the ancient god's sacrificial vessel, his spiritual strength now stood at no less than 66 points.
Normal nobles possess 11 points of spiritual strength per sequence. This amount marks the peak of Sequence 4, and can break through to Demigod at any time.
Therefore, Rosen was only a small boost away from reaching the minimum required spiritual strength for Sequence 3.
Thus, the next priority was to find a way to increase his spiritual strength as quickly as possible.
Rosen searched the deep web of the spiritual world for a long time before finding a shortcut that would allow a Sequence 5 to rapidly enhance their spiritual power.
The hereditary Duke of Favalli from the Shenmu Empire had a unique ritual formation mastered by his family.
This ritual formation could increase the spiritual power of Sequence 5 by one point, without any hidden risks.
The Favalli family had made this ritual formation publicly available long ago, with a cost of 100 million spiritual crystals for a single use.
However, the core materials required for the ritual had to be prepared personally, and a Sequence 6 soul gem was necessary.
A Sequence 6 soul gem was worth 1.5 billion spiritual crystals, with the cost for using the ritual formation totaling 1.6 billion spiritual crystals.
As such, although the Favalli family had control over this ritual formation, it didn't provoke envy from others.
Even a normal Sequence 5 would struggle to exchange 1.6 billion spiritual crystals for a single point of spiritual strength.
Unless one's family was extraordinarily powerful, or one was extremely favored with poor aptitude, and had stagnated at the peak of Sequence 5, unable to make progress, only then would someone use this ritual formation to break through to Sequence 4 and extend their lifespan by at least a thousand years.
However, such cases were rare, meaning the Favalli family earned little from this offering.
Rosen thought for a moment and decided to visit the Favalli family.
It wasn't that he had an excess of spiritual crystals with nowhere to use them, but he was deeply intrigued by the ritual formation. Since it had the ability to alter the use of soul gems meant for extraordinary buildings and apply them to humans, the ritual formation must be special.
After several transfers via the wizard tower in the Sky Garden, Rosen quickly arrived at the City of Rest, controlled by the Favalli family.
This city was unique in that all the buildings were constructed from bamboo.
Moreover, the bamboo had been pre-made into musical instruments. As the wind passed through the city, different melodies naturally emerged. Such places were often tempting for those of the spirit world.
Yet, upon arrival, Rosen found Rest City to be as intact as the Sky Garden.
This indicated that the Favalli family's foundation surpassed even that of the Wood Elves' royal family.
Before arriving, Rosen had already sent a letter to Duke Favalli through the deep web of the spiritual world.
The moment he left the wizard tower made of magical bamboo joints, he saw the alchemical carriage by the roadside.
"Greetings, Your Excellency Duke Howard."
The middle-aged man, dressed as a butler beside the alchemical carriage, stepped forward and said respectfully, "I am Hodi, the butler of the Favalli family. I will be in charge of escorting you to the Favalli family's castle. If you have any requests while in Rest City, please do not hesitate to let me know."
"Take me directly to the castle."
Rosen said, climbing into the alchemical carriage.
The moving alchemical carriage produced music. As it passed different buildings, the music created by the wind flowing through the carriage harmonized perfectly with the melodies created by the wind passing through the roadside buildings. The craftsmanship and technology behind it were hard to fathom.
Rosen couldn't help but think that the Music City of the Empire of Stars might not surpass this City of Rest.
He wondered why this place had never become a holy site for musicians.
The speed of the alchemical carriage was not fast. As Rosen listened to the music, a drowsiness began to take hold. However, the power of his Arrogant Soul activated automatically, waking him from his sleepiness.
At that moment, Rosen suddenly realized why Rest City was called the City of Rest.
His luck was at its peak after mastering the Ancient God Realm, and he knew he would never fall into a trap under such circumstances. However, his instincts told him that something was off about Rest City. Why else would they be using music to make him fall asleep?
Realizing this, Rosen pretended to sleep. He wanted to observe what the Favalli family had planned.
The butler lifted the curtain of the alchemical carriage and smiled sympathetically at Rosen, who appeared to be asleep on the seat.
Another fool walking straight into the lion's den. The Favalli family would only grow stronger because of this.
The butler already thought about how much reward he would receive.
"So this is what's happening!"
Rosen, using his sixth sense of mind reading, quickly understood the butler's thoughts.
It turned out that the Favalli family used a special Resting Lullaby to make all outsiders fall asleep when they entered the City of Rest. While the outsiders slept, the family drained their wealth in dreams, before erasing and altering their memories and sending them back out of the city.
The Favalli family cared little for life but sought only wealth. If an outsider had no wealth, they were kept in Parthia City, where they lived under the Favalli family's mental control, producing wealth for the family from birth to death, across generations.
It was this model that had allowed the Favalli family, a hereditary ducal family, to grow stronger than the Wood Elf Kingdom.
Rosen sat up, stretched out his finger, and silently tapped the back of the butler's head. With the help of his Hunter Sequence 6 mind control, he injected his divinity into the butler's sea of consciousness.
Sensing something was wrong, the butler tried to resist, but he was already immobilized by the human model and could not fight back.
