Chapter 11: Blue-Haired
Rising, her blue hair fell down her shoulders and back like a waterfall. Moving away from the bed, she walked silently into the bathroom, towards the sink, and stood face down in front of the mirror, staring at the sink.
The tears that fell into the sink were flushed away by the opened tap, the sound of the rushing water overshadowing her sobbing. Looking up at her reflection in the mirror, the intense eye-catching color of her hair elicited an intense gaze of hatred from her.
Hardening her mind, she picked up a knife from the edge of the sink along with a bundle of her hair, preparing to cut it. At the most critical moment, she hesitated, memories she had buried deep within resurfacing.
BAM! BAM!
A knock resounded on her door, saving her from her conflict. Looking at the knife, she dropped it reluctantly back at the edge of the sink. Staring at the mirror once more, she sighed wearily and hardened her face, determination could be seen brimming from the eyes of her reflection in the mirror.
"I'm tired, but what must be done, must be done!" she said, the fire in her eyes increasing in intensity.
BAM! BAM!
The knock was heard once more, and she relaxed her expression, washed her face, went back into the room, and opened the doors, not even inquiring who was behind it. There were only two people who could be there and true to her thoughts, two young men were standing behind the door. If Kieran were here, he would have identified them as the two bodyguards he had sat with at the table during the orientation program.
"Hey Sabrina, you busy? We were about to go get breakfast, do you want to tag along?" the first guy asked in an overly friendly manner.
Sabrina looked at the two boys standing in front of her. Despite having spent some time together, this was the first time she was paying attention to them. The first guy, Ethan, was a strikingly handsome teenager, around the age of seventeen, with an athletic build. He stood at about 6'0'' with broad shoulders and a confident posture. He had green eyes and sandy brown hair which added a wild feel to him.
The second boy, Liam, also around seventeen years old, had a more refined and classic style that set him apart. He stood at a slightly shorter height of 5'9'', with a lean proportioned physique. He had blue eyes similar to Sabrina's and grey hair reminiscent of scattered ash across a snowy field, and it also added to his calm and composed aura, giving him an air of mystery around him.
"Hmmm, sure! I'll be done in a few minutes though." Sabrina replied in a tone devoid of much emotion. Closing the door behind her, Liam spoke up,
"What you're doing is useless. Her disinterest is obvious; you should give up, Ethan."
"I could say the same to you, Liam; the fact that you both belong to the same family doesn't change anything. I don't need to remind you of the fact that you are only from a branch family. Just because he turned a blind eye doesn't mean he approves of you!"
A slight frown finally appeared on his previously calm face,
'He always manages to get under my skin', but before he could say or do anything, the door opened up, and a stunning Sabrina appeared, capturing their attention once again.
"I'm done, shall we?" she said, moving past them and taking the lead. Liam looked at Ethan and sneered in disgust before following after Selena while Ethan just smiled and followed in their footsteps.
Entering the cafeteria, she noticed the slight commotion, everyone murmuring to each other, discussing something so fervently, nobody even noticed her when she stepped in, which was new, as she always stood out like a sore thumb, not that she didn't appreciate being ignored, it felt nice. At least she could relax on her constant act a little bit.
Walking up to a random table, Ethan stepped up and the people at the table left upon noticing them.
"You don't have to do that, you know?" she said in a sour tone,
"I know, but people like that do not deserve to be in your presence" he replied with a tone that gave no room for disagreement.
A slight frown, which could elicit the urge to protect a man, appeared on her face, and she took a seat. Although she didn't like that attitude one bit, she couldn't refute him all the time, she knew he was sent by her father to protect her.
Playing with her hair to distract her from her frustration, Liam came over with some trays of food.
It had always been like this with these two surrounding her; she never had to do any of those normal things like queuing for food and similar things; they tagged it as 'below her.'
Looking at the tray in front of her, she also noticed how different the food was compared to the one served to the other recruits, filled with some rather exotic meals, although it wasn't as good as the ones she had at home, it was still far better than the regular meal served here.
'The work of father and these two' she guessed. Her background even followed her into this camp, which was even feared among the noble houses and clans due to their reputation and the rumors of their lack of concern for the status of the recruits.
The other recruits had also noticed the preferential treatment she was receiving, causing most of them to further distance themselves from her for fear of angering her, while some thought of getting close to her due to the benefits they could reap but were scared off by the aura of the two young men beside her.
Thinking of that, she remembered a black-haired boy around her age with cold eyes who looked at anybody with suspicion. Back at the orientation program, she had a feeling he picked the same spot as her just because it happened to be the most isolated; his face didn't even change when he noticed her blue hair.
A slight smile bloomed on her beautiful face, remembering someone who had zero interest in her. Every other person regardless of whether they knew about her or not, always had an attitude change when they saw her blue hair.
"What's got you smiling? It's been a while since I saw the expression that's been torturing my dreams"
The smile vanished at Ethan's comment, replaced with her usual cold expression.
"It's none of your business", she answered in a frigid tone matching her face. Ethan smiled,
"You shouldn't be so cold with me; after all, I will most probably end up as your man; we should take this time to get to know each other", she glared at him, icily dropping her fork, suddenly losing any little appetite she had.
"Do you know what they're discussing about?" She changed the topic, turning to face Liam.
"Well, earlier today, someone ordered a rather enormous and unreasonable amount of food, if I were to add, and finished it in a record time of 35 minutes. It's the first time in thirty years that something like this has ever happened. He just happened to set a record."
Selena stared blankly at the news, it was rather surprising to her that someone would even do that.
Ethan, hearing this, sneered, "It's probably some poor person; you shouldn't concern yourself with things like that."
Ignoring him once more, she questioned further, "Do you know who it is?"
Taking a moment to remember what he had gathered, he replied…
"Hmm, this the first time he's been noticed, seems he keeps a low profile and has no friends since he was seen coming here alone, but they did mention that he had black hair and that had a rather lean build"
Selena frowned upon hearing this…
'Hmm, could it be him?' Thinking it through, 'if it were…, he didn't seem like the type to do anything that'd attract attention to him.' With this, she dispersed the possibility of it being him.
"Hmm, I would have liked to watch the show; it must have been nice," she said, removing her thoughts from the incident.
"Watching someone eat is nice?" Liam asked in confusion, before giving up and focusing on his meal.
The subject of the commotion had just woken up feeling better than ever, an even sharper look in his eyes
'I should plan the rest of the week, starting with how to gain some contribution points. Things like this shouldn't be quite hard, that soldier from earlier looked like a student, most likely from a higher year. Which means there should be some tasks available in exchange for contribution points.' He thought while stroking his chin.
"Since everything here runs on CP, that shouldn't be the only way. Transaction between students is also a method…which means one can also the extorted." His gaze darkened on getting to this point.
"I should visit the library; there should be some information there; I can also scavenge for information if need be. Those nobles couldn't be so ignorant about this place."
With that in mind, he prepared to leave immediately but remembered his situation: he had no clothes.
They got burnt in the fire, and the detective had only stopped by to get one more pair on their way, and they were all dirty now. Thinking back, he remembered that there was a tracksuit along with the uniforms that had been delivered; walking to the side of the room where he dropped the clothes and picked them up. Putting them on he walked out of the room using his navigator to get to the library.
