Chapter 6: Less Than Six Months
Anna's face was pale.
Her body has become even weaker, and frail. However, the consistent coughing and bleeding seem to have stopped.
Doctor Siya said: "I already contacted your family and they are on their way."
Anna nodded gently careful that nodding the more might cause another damage to her.
Two hours after, Anna's mother, Lilian Liam. Her grand parents, Joseph and Jean walked in, concern in their eyes as they saw Anna strapped to the bed in medical conduits for example, a drip connecting to her hand, and an oxygen mask on her face.
In truth, if Anna had wasted even if it was a little bit of time, she would have not been able to breath. And it was almost reaching the level where, she would cough and her lungs begins to contract. Luckily, she had moved in time when she saw the reaction of her ailment.
Lilian wept sadly and scolded. "This is the reason why I was unwilling to let you live on your own. You must have been busy working your ass out and forgot to check yourself."
Anna coughed, but this one was deliberate, knowing fully well that, she hasn't been doing any work.
"You know what," Lilian continues.
"We have to go back home. I need to spend some time with my daughter, even if I know that she has less than six months left to live..." She burst into tears but Anna stood up and peeled off her oxygen mask, "mom I know I forgot. But working is also one of the wishes I have before I die. If I'm not able to do it happily and I die, I would not rest well. And, Trisha is really taking good care of me, you do not have to worry too much. My wishes are filled in this city and leaving them behind would trigger it's own consequences, mom..."
Lillian shook her head, tears streaming down her eyes, trying to dissuade it but Anna was stubborn.
"Mom, mom! Don't you want my happiness?"
Lilian nodded, and Anna wiped the tears off her mother's face with her free hand and smiled.
"Mom, I'd be fine! I'll be fine. Please make me a happy daughter before I die."
Lilian could not reject, how can she ever refuse the wishes of someone who doesn't have much time to live?
Lilian immediately cupped her cheeks. "How about we try another surgery to see if you can live for much longer?"
Anna shook her head, "mom you should know that a second surgery is not certain to make me live longer. It might even take my life faster than it is supposed to sustain me. Remember that the second surgery killed father, it is fine to die, but let me live well so that I can also die well."
Lilian cried the more. In fact, a dying person's wishes is the greatest wish of all time. She could not refuse. "Alright then, you should promise to take good care of yourself! Do not forget the day you should visit the hospital, very important. Also, eat very well."
With that, Lilian wiped her tears and offered Anna a gentle smile.
"My dear," her grandmother Jean started, "I know that hormones is in you. It surges wildly and screams of freedom to explore the vestiges of life, however you should know something, life is actually unpredictable so you must be careful. We are giving you the freedom does not mean you should die very early." She laughed small and did not say anything more. Anna was touched, this little advise actually moved her spirit and her mind wandered.
Live a good life, become Carlos girlfriend, eventually marry him if it would ever come true. However, I will only love him, and he won't love me back, that's more than enough to live happily.
Anna stared at her family. "You all should not worry or trouble yourselves over me, I'll be fine."
Another two hours passed, and Anna was discharged. Her body system seem to have calmed a bit, but visible signs of weakness and paleness was exhibited. However, she looked forward to meeting Carlos in LeSnore's 7 Star hotel.
When she went back to Trisha's house, on a whim, she realized that something was wrong and asked. Even Trisha's parents were concerned, but Anna did not want to burden this kind family.
"I'm alright. I just had a reaction from eating stale food. Food poisoning."
Anna's mother, Mrs Valerie scolded; "that's why I've always warned everyone about eating out. From now on, you kids must eat before leaving the house, am I understood?"
Trisha and Anna laughed nodding.
Although it seemed funny to laugh at a time like this, but they were still overly concerned and that's all which matters.
Trisha and Anna walked to their room and after they locked the door, Trisha glared at her suspiciously.
"I know you Anna, you're not careless to have eaten stale food. You can even smell it from a mile away and avoid it. What's going on with you?"
Her hands on her waist akimbo.
Anna's eyes widened, face pale. Should I tell her? No! She'll spend her days only thinking about it. I can't do that!
Anna forced a smile, but Trisha wasn't going to take that smile.
"Anna, don't you think I know you too well by now? I know when your smile is genuine and when it is forced or fake. Stop pretending, I know."
Anna's face paled. But with the way her face lost color, it was all easy for Trisha to guess the overall picture.
"Anna are you fine? Is there something I should know?"
Anna smiled. "I think you should not worry. And yes, indeed there's something that you are supposed to know, however I cannot tell you now. It all depends on how well you want to take it or not. It's not that I purposely want to keep it away from you."
Trisha's eyes was suddenly wary.
"Tell me. It's fine, I'll be able to take the news."
Anna was calm, strangely calm that it was terrifying. Trisha suddenly panicked, realizing that something is horribly wrong!
Anna opened her mouth and threw the bombshell:
"I have less than six months left to live."
