Chapter 34 - I
Tan Chuyan was alone when he set off, but the horses pulling the supply cart and the soldiers accompanying Feng Chilie needed to stop and rest, so he quickly caught up with the man.
The moon was dark, and the wind was high. Tan Chuyan was fishing in troubled waters, making his way to Feng Chilie’s camp.
Feng Chilie was a martial arts practitioner with excellent ears and eyesight, not to mention alertness, so he didn’t get too close at first and just stood guard in the woods not far from the camp.
Feng Chilie heard the sound of horse hooves from far away, he got a little closer and saw Ji Bei tightening the reins and getting off the horse.
Ji Bei shouted outside the tent: “General, this is subordinate Ji Bei, are you asleep?”
“No, come in.” Feng Chilie lit the oil lamp again, and the simple tent lit up, reflecting him and Ji Bei.
Judging from the figure on the tent, Feng Chilie poured himself a glass of wine, and while tasting it, he said, “When it’s almost dawn, you go and order ten people for me. Tomorrow, these ten people will escort me and leave first, while you stay and bring the Hongying Army to escort the supplies.”
Ji Bei was puzzled: “Why doesn’t the general come with us?”
“The army is moving too slowly,” Feng Chilie said worriedly: “I want to take a look at the situation in the thirty-sixth cities of Pingchuan first.”
Ji Bei: “I understand.”
“By the way,” Feng Chilie asked, “Did you say goodbye to your mother before leaving?”
Ji Bei: “I said goodbye.”
“That’s good, lest mother says I took you out again. People have no rules and regulations.”
Feng Chilie breathed slowly and yawned for a long time: “Go down, I will set off at dawn tomorrow.”
“Yes, sir!” Ji Bei said.
Suddenly he heard a rustling sound outside. He immediately left the tent and threw a dart in the direction of Tan Chuyan.
“Cang!”
The dart settled into the tree, and the tail trembled.
Ji Bei went over to check and saw no one. He only saw a snow fox disappearing deep into the forest.
“Have you caught it?” Feng Chilie asked loudly in the camp: “Who is it?”
“General, I didn’t see anyone.” Ji Bei replied: “It’s a snow fox.”
Snow fox…
Feng Chilie didn’t ask further: “Oh, let’s go and rest.”
After hearing the word rest, Tan Chuyan, who was hiding behind the thick tree trunk, slowly breathed a sigh of relief. His tight thoughts suddenly relaxed, and his five senses receded like a tide.
But he was only half relieved, suddenly he was almost frightened to death by Ji Bei.
He saw the man hanging from the tree: “Caught you…huh? Young Master Yan?!”
Ji Bei performed a top-notch face change in an instant, from baring his big teeth to a face full of shock, switching very freely.
After a while, Tan Chuyan was invited into Feng Chilie’s camp.
The temporary tent was not as comfortable as the general’s residence, and it was so cold that there was no charcoal basin to heat up the place. Tan Chuyan tightened his cloak, and his ten fingers were red from the cold.
Feng Chilie gave him a glass of the wine he brought from the general’s mansion: “Why are you here? Have you completely changed your career from a businessman to a spy?”
Tan Chuyan picked up the wine glass and sipped it in small sips. He didn’t take off his veil, which fluttered slightly with his movements.
“Just doing business.” Tan Chuyan made up nonsense: “There is something urgent right now that I need to personally handle, so I drove all night and happened to see you guys camping here, so I came over to see what was going on.”
“Oh, really?” There was doubt in Feng Chilie’s eyes: “But how did I hear that you rarely take charge of things? Yan Changfeng and Xiao Yutang usually do the errands for you, right?”
But this matter was an internal secret. The only outsider who knew about it was Yan Lie. How did Feng Chilie learn about it?
Suspicious eyes met another suspicious eyes, and Feng Chilie secretly said this was bad. He had always met Young Master Yan as “Yan Lie”, so his speaking habits didn’t change for a while, and he even spilled the beans.
But who was Feng Chilie? There was no panic at all.
He patched himself up without changing his expression: “Don’t look at me like that. This matter was accidentally leaked by Yan Lie when I was chatting. He complained about you. You usually don’t come forward to deal with things and call the old people to manage it.”
Which old people were you talking about? Xiao Yutang and Yan Changfeng were only in their forties and were still in their prime. However, being able to talk like this could fully prove that the relationship between Yan Lie and Feng Chilie was different.
Tan Chuyan chuckled in a breathy voice: “General, you really have a lot of friends, even that evil god, you dares to make friends.”
“Compared to you, Young Master Yan, I’m still far behind.” Feng Chilie smiled with shame. He smiled and said, “You let the Evil God come to visit around your territory.”
