Chapter 89: Detectives
The following morning.
Bang!
The car door slammed shut as two people stepped out of their car in front of Hunter's residence.
"This is the next house?" Felix, dressed in a long coat, looked at the two-story building.
"Yes…" Ravella, a chirpy-sounding woman, looked at the address on her phone. "Kiernan Hunter, and his father is living here."
"Let's knock then." Felix walked over to the door and knocked twice.
A short moment later, a tired-looking man opened the door and raised an eyebrow at the two unfamiliar individuals.
"Who are you two?" Karma asked and covered the entrance of the house with his body.
"My name is Felix," he said, and showed his badge. "I am a detective from the World Detective Association."
"And I am Ravella!" The chirpy-sounding woman showed her badge. "I am his assistant!"
"World Detective Association?" Karma raised an eyebrow. "And why would such high-ranked individuals be on my doorstep? You're not here to investigate me, are you?"
"Haha, no." Felix shook his head.
"My assistant, Ravella, is very new, and before she can become a full-fledged detective, she must solve 100 crimes.
"Thus, we've been traveling around the world for a minute, and we came across an incident here in Irio. A murder."
"A murder?" Karma looked surprised. "That's rare around these parts."
"Yes, it was quite brutal one. Killed with bare hands." Felix said. "We have some leads. We know the culprit should be around lower stages of Martial Soldier, sixteen years old, and have particular taste in their blood."
"Uh, and how would you guys know that?" Karma asked.
"Let me explain!" Ravella excitedly continued. "I have Animalistic Instinct that allows me to know some things about a person whose blood I've tasted. There was a blood sample at the crime scene, so I was able to taste it."
"So you are here for my son." Karma's expression became serious.
"He fits the sixteen-year-old category, but that's a stretch and a half. Are you here to investigate everyone who is sixteen years old?"
"Yes, we've been through quite a few already." Felix said, "It will only take a moment. Once we clear him from his suspicions, we can move on to the next person on our list."
"Who is it?" Kiernan walked down from the stairs and saw the two people outside their house.
With a glance, he saw the detective badge.
'A detective?' Kiernan raised an eyebrow. "Were you guys talking about me?"
"Oh, hello, my name is Felix, and this here is Ravella." Felix said. "We're here to investigate a murder that happened a couple of weeks ago. Would you mind being questioned?"
"Enough of this." Karma said sharply. "My son has been suffering quite a bit lately, and I want him to rest without any unnecessary disturbances."
"I am fine with it, father." Kiernan said. "Would you two like coffee?"
"I would love to." Felix smiled, then nodded at Ravella and entered the house.
With Karma, they sat in the living room, a growing tension between them.
However, Ravella didn't seem to notice it as she looked around the living room with a smile on her face. It looked like she was quite interested in human living places.
"So, what do you want from me?" Kiernan asked as he started brewing coffee.
"A taste of your blood, if that's not too much to ask." Felix said. "My partner here has a thing called Animalistic Instinct that allows her to know things about a person when she tastes their blood.
"There was some blood found on the crime scene, which we believe belongs to the culprit."
"I see." Kiernan nodded, but inside his mind, he thought. 'Fuck, fuck, fuck. What kind of shit is that? Animalistic Instinct? How much does she know? Must be enough to put me as a suspect.'
"Since it sounds like I am suspect, what does the blood show her actually?"
Kiernan asked, sounding nonchalant as if he didn't really care.
"I am only a young one still, so I only know the culprit's age, the martial arts rank, and the taste of their blood. The taste of the blood is different with every person, so that is one of the best ways I have of identifying them."
"Oh, sounds interesting." Kiernan said aloud.
'Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.
'Alright, let's calm down. The only thing they have currently on me is my age. That matches with the culprit. However, my martial arts rank is way above what I had when I killed that bastard. Experience more tales on empire
'But the taste of the blood. Will it always stay the same, or will the taste change? I have physically undergone a massive change, but has the taste of my blood changed?
'If I let her taste my blood, it might be over for me.
'Haha, I've done over a hundred assassinations, but this is how I am caught? With some idiotic Animalistic Instinct.
'Is that thing rare? It sounds rare. However, this city is supposed to be some small city in some backwater country.
'How come there is someone like that here? It's stupid and makes no sense.
'No, calm down, Kiernan. If push comes to shove, I must run away, but fuck, I don't want to abandon my father and everyone else.'
The coffee finished brewing, and he poured everyone a drink, then went to the living room and handed everyone a cup.
Kiernan glanced at Ravella and watched as she drank the coffee.
'I hope your taste buds will turn numb. I made the coffee extra strong today!'
"Alright." Felix finished sipping on the coffee and placed the cup down on the table. "Mind making a small cut on your finger and letting Ravella have a taste?"
Kiernan placed his thumb against his index finger and sliced through the skin with his nail.
"Oh…" Felix was about to pull out his switchblade to have him use it. "Interesting technique you used."
"Well, have a taste." Kiernan showed his bleeding finger to Ravella.
"Alright…" Ravella took a deep breath, still sickened about the thought of tasting blood, but she then took her napkin, took a sample of the blood, and licked it off the napkin.
As soon as she got a taste of it, her pupils widened, and as if she was under some sort of trance, she grabbed Kiernan's finger and sucked it into her mouth.
"R-Ravella?" Felix whispered, shocked at what he was witnessing. "What're you doing? Behave yourself!"
However, she was clearly not in a correct state of mind, ignoring Felix's words and continuing to suck on Kiernan's finger with a glazed look in her eyes.
