Marvel: Death Knight

Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Death

Watching his girlfriend float down from the sky, Reed let out a sigh of relief. That guy was terrifying, and they had only recently gained their powers.

He had wanted to ask Susan to refuse, but to his surprise, she had agreed without hesitation.

The man extended his hand and said, "Thank you. My name is Garus."

"Reed Richards."

"Susan Storm."

"Logan."

Kindred spirits often find common ground. Susan and Reed, having only recently acquired their powers, never imagined there were others like them in this world.

"We have something to take care of today, so we'll have to cut this short," Reed said cordially. "Let's meet up at our place sometime and chat."

As their car drove away, Garus activated the Death Gate.

"Logan, come over to my place tonight. Let's relax and have some fun."

"Sure. But first, I'll need a change of clothes," Logan replied, casually tearing off his tattered suit to reveal a muscular physique that made Garus envious.

The next morning, Logan woke up with a groggy head. As he stumbled into the yard, he saw Garus already awake and engaged in his daily training.

"Garus, why do you always end up carrying me back after drinking? No one's ever been able to outdrink me before."

As a semi-undead, drinking for Garus was like drinking water. Logan had no chance of keeping up with him.

"Logan, I'm heading back to the company. What about you?"

"I need to get back to the school. If I'm not there, those kids might burn the place down."

"Alright, then." Placing a hand on Logan's shoulder, Garus said, "Logan, I'm going to free all mutants. I've already begun tracking Hydra's movements."

"Thanks, Garus. Now, open the portal for me."

Through the Death Gate, Garus arrived in the underground chamber of Azeroth Technologies' skyscraper. The expansive space was divided into multiple rooms, which he planned to turn into his personal vault. After all, his spatial pouch had limited capacity and couldn't hold everything.

In one corner of the chamber lay the corpse of Abomination—a trophy he had brought back the previous day.

He already had a large vial of Hulk's blood, so the Abomination's body was of limited use. Yet, on instinct, he had brought it along, feeling it might be valuable.

My Four Horsemen of Death!

Though Abomination was inferior to the Hulk, he was still a formidable force in the Marvel Universe. Turning him into a Death Knight could prove useful.

Carefully, Garus drew Frostmourne, silencing the blade's whispering voice in his mind. Death's power flowed like a stream into the body of Emil Blonsky.

Time passed. By all accounts, the transformation should have been complete, yet Blonsky remained motionless on the ground.

What's going on?

"Stranger from another world," a childlike voice suddenly echoed in his mind, startling him into halting the Death Knight's transformation.

"Who are you?"

Garus realized he was no longer in Azeroth Technologies' underground chamber. Darkness surrounded him, the ground beneath him seemingly void, yet it felt solid.

"I am Death. This is my domain," the voice said, resonating from every direction.

"Show yourself. Talking like this feels strange." Being suddenly transported to such a place left him uneasy.

Death?

In the Marvel Universe, three beings bore the name "Death": Hela, Thor's sister; Lady Death, a mutant; and the cosmic entity known as Death.

As Garus pondered, a gray mist materialized before him. From it emerged a small, cloaked figure.

"I'm not Hela, nor that mutant experiment of the Celestials," she said, her tone tinged with disdain.

Not Hela, not Lady Death… Could it be…?

Garus' heart raced. Was he truly face-to-face with one of the five primordial cosmic entities?

"You seem nervous," Death said, removing her hood to reveal a skull. After a moment, she shifted her appearance to that of an adorable young girl.

"Why seek me out?" Garus asked cautiously. A being of her stature visiting him, a mere mortal, seemed unreal.

"Because of the death energy within you. It doesn't belong to this universe." Her gaze bore into him. "I noticed you the first time you used it. You're not a native of this multiverse."

"You're right. I'm not from this world. My presence here was an accident." There was no point in lying to a cosmic being.

"I'm curious about how you arrived. Will you tell me?"

Her voice was alluring, tempting him to answer.

"Detected mental interference. Activating psychic defenses."

The system's voice in his mind jolted Garus. Had she just attacked him mentally?

"Oh?" Death's tone shifted, intrigued. "You interest me. Come to my realm. I'll grant you command over the Legion of the Dead."

"No, thank you," Garus declined. Spending eternity surrounded by skeletons wasn't appealing.

Death didn't press him but remarked wistfully, "Very well."

After a pause, she added, "I see your weapon is nurturing a consciousness. It seems rather savage."

Glancing at Frostmourne, Garus admitted, "Yes, I can't control it."

"I've sealed the nascent spirit within your blade. When you're ready to control it, the seal will lift. Consider this a gift."

Garus couldn't fathom why she favored him but expressed his gratitude. "Thank you, Death."

"Farewell," she said. "Life withers; only death is eternal. I'll await your arrival in the realm of Death." With that, she vanished, leaving Garus relieved.

He examined Frostmourne, elated. At last, the legendary weapon was usable.

The surroundings shifted, returning him to the underground chamber.

"Master."

A deep voice startled Garus. Looking up, he saw Blonsky, now revived.

Standing nearly five meters tall, Blonsky's imposing figure towered over Garus, who immediately gave instructions.

"Blonsky, can you return to your original form?"

"Yes, Master." In an instant, Blonsky shrank to his pre-Hulk state.

"Head to Xavier's School. Watch over it and ensure no one escapes. Bring anyone you find there to me."

"As you command, Master."

Blonsky stepped through the Death Gate, vanishing to carry out his mission.
