Marvel: Sin Lord

Chapter 13: The Frosted Offer

The sun was beginning to set, casting long shadows over the decaying walls of the abandoned house. Inarius sat cross-legged on the floor, his father's ring in his hand, the soft glow of his sword fading in and out of existence beside him. The silence was oppressive, broken only by the faint creak of shifting wood above him.

"You've been through quite a lot for someone so young."

The voice was smooth, confident, and unmistakably unfamiliar. Inarius snapped to attention, the purple blade flaring to life in his hand as he stood in a defensive stance. A woman stepped into the room, her white suit gleaming even in the dim light, her piercing blue eyes fixed on him.

"Who are you?" Inarius demanded, his voice sharp but weary.

"Emma Frost," she replied casually, brushing invisible dust from her sleeve. "And you must be Inarius Morningstar."

Inarius narrowed his eyes. "What do you want?"

Emma tilted her head, a faint smirk on her lips. "I'm here to offer you an opportunity. One that doesn't involve hiding in abandoned buildings or running from the authorities."

He didn't lower his blade. "How do you know about me?"

"I make it my business to know about exceptional young mutants," Emma said, stepping closer. "Your... abilities are quite unique, even among our kind. The ability to sense and absorb sin, memories, and powers? That's a rare gift."

"It's a curse," Inarius muttered, the glow of his sword dimming.

Emma's gaze softened, just slightly. "Perhaps. But it's also a strength, one that can be honed and controlled. You don't have to let it control you."

Inarius frowned, his grip tightening on the hilt of his sword. "Why would you care?"

Emma smiled, a glint of amusement in her eyes. "Because I see potential in you. And because I know what it's like to feel like an outcast. To feel like the world is against you."

He didn't respond, the weight of her words hanging in the air.

"There's a place for you, Inarius," Emma continued. "At the Massachusetts Academy. With my Hellions. You'll have a chance to train, to learn, and to find others like you. People who understand what it means to be different."

Inarius hesitated, his thoughts racing. Could he trust her? Was this a trap? Or was it the escape he desperately needed?

"What's the catch?" he asked finally.

"No catch," Emma said, her tone firm. "But there is a condition. You'll have to work with others, follow my guidance, and commit to becoming more than what the world sees you as now."

He stared at her, his instincts warring with his desire for something more than this life of hiding and fear. Slowly, he let the purple sword dissolve into the air.

"I'll go," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Emma smiled, satisfied. "Good choice."

The Academy was nothing like what Inarius had imagined. The sprawling campus was pristine, the architecture a blend of elegance and modernity. Students walked the grounds, their conversations light and carefree.

As they stepped out of the sleek car that had brought them there, Inarius felt a pang of self-consciousness. His worn clothes and guarded posture stood in stark contrast to the polished confidence of the other students.

"Don't let appearances fool you," Emma said, noticing his hesitation. "Many of these students came here just as lost as you are now."

She led him through the halls, her heels clicking sharply against the marble floors. They passed classrooms filled with students practicing their abilities, from telekinesis to energy projection.

"This is where you'll train," Emma said, stopping in front of a large oak door. "Your powers are raw, but with the right guidance, you'll be unstoppable."

She pushed the door open, revealing a room filled with a group of young mutants. They turned to look at him, their expressions ranging from curiosity to indifference.

"Everyone," Emma announced, her tone commanding, "this is Inarius Morningstar. He'll be joining us."

One of the students, a girl with fiery red hair and a mischievous grin, stepped forward. "Another new recruit? Guess we'll see if he can keep up."

Inarius met her gaze, his grey eyes unwavering. "I'll manage," he said coolly.

Emma smirked. "I have no doubt you will."

As she left the room, Inarius stood among his new teammates, the weight of uncertainty and possibility pressing down on him. For the first time in years, he wasn't alone. And though he didn't trust them yet, he knew this was the beginning of something new. Something that might finally give him purpose.
