Chapter 100: Chapter 100: The First Mission
Chapter 100 let's gooo!
...
"Erza's last mission involved subduing a rampaging demon, so that horn must be her trophy," Mirajane explained to George and Lucy as Erza entered the guild hall, placing the massive horn on the floor. The weight of it made the entire guild tremble slightly.
"Just one horn is that big? How enormous must the demon itself have been? It must have been the size of the guild! Terrifying!" Lucy gasped, covering her mouth in shock. George, too, felt a wave of awe.
He realized the S-Class wizards in this world might be far stronger than he had anticipated. Defeating a demon several meters tall seemed like child's play to someone like Erza. Then again, maybe Erza was exceptional, even among S-Class wizards.
"I've heard a lot of rumors on my way back," Erza began, hands on her hips as she surveyed the guild hall. "People are saying members of Fairy Tail cause trouble all the time. Even if the Master forgives you, I won't.
"Cana, is this how you drink alcohol? Bisca, if you want to dance, take it outside! And Wakaba, Nab, Macao…"
As she listed their names, Erza scolded each of them with authority. The wizards she called out didn't dare to protest.
Even Natsu and Gray, who usually didn't back down from anyone—not even the Master—were suddenly the best of friends, slinging their arms around each other and pretending to be on good terms. Lucy was dumbfounded by their change in demeanor.
'She really is the queen of the guild. 'The Fairy Queen,'' George thought to himself in amazement.
There was certainly truth to her nickname. Having spent some time in the guild, George had come to know the personalities of most members. Fairy Tail wizards were fiercely independent, often clashing over the smallest issues. But Erza's presence silenced even the rowdiest members.
"Are you the new members?"
After finishing her lecture, Erza's eyes fell on George and Lucy. She strode over with purpose.
Lucy, startled, quickly introduced herself. "I'm Lucy! I just joined the guild. Please take care of me!"
Erza placed a firm hand on Lucy's shoulder, her expression serious. "I'm Erza. No need to be so formal. Think of this as your second home. We're all family here."
Then, as if remembering something, her eyes lit up. "Oh, you're Lucy! I heard in town that you defeated the vicious Vulcan gorilla with just one finger. Well done!"
"Wait... what?!" Lucy was stunned.
While she had indeed fought the Vulcan alongside Natsu during her first mission, most of the credit belonged to Natsu. How did the rumor turn into her defeating the monster with a single finger?
"I'm George. I joined the guild the same day as Lucy. Please take care of me as well," George said, extending his paw in greeting.
Erza leaned in to study him, nodding thoughtfully. "Nice to meet you, George. I always thought Happy was one of a kind, but it seems he has a fellow cat now. Your color scheme would pair well with Laxus. Maybe you two should form a team in the future."
"Pair well... with Laxus?" George was momentarily taken aback.
Mirajane laughed. "The Master wouldn't want George teaming up with Laxus. Laxus rarely comes back to the guild, so George wouldn't be able to stay around and help out as he does now."
"Why not?" Erza asked, puzzled. When she learned about George's expertise in restoration magic, her expression brightened. Without warning, she scooped George into a bear hug.
"George, team up with me!"
Erza had always held back in battles to avoid destroying her surroundings. With George's magic, she wouldn't have to restrain herself, allowing her to complete missions more efficiently.
"I'll split the rewards 50-50!"
"Th-thank you, but I'm not looking to form a team right now," George stammered, wriggling free from her armored embrace.
Erza's speed and strength caught him off guard. While being hugged by someone as beautiful and charismatic as Erza might sound appealing, her armor made the experience less than comfortable.
"That's a shame," Erza sighed, visibly disappointed. Turning to Mirajane , she asked, "Where's the Master? I have something important to report, but I don't see him here."
"The Master went to the routine council meeting," Mirajane replied.
Erza frowned, deep in thought, before looking over her shoulder at Natsu and Gray.
The two, who had just been butting heads moments ago, immediately threw their arms around each other again, feigning camaraderie under Erza's gaze.
"Natsu, Gray," she said, "I encountered a troublesome issue during my last mission. I need your help to resolve it. Will you come with me?"
"What?! Erza's asking for help? That's a first!"
"And she's asking Natsu and Gray, no less!"
The guild erupted into whispers. Erza had always taken on S-Class missions from the second floor alone, never needing assistance. This was unprecedented.
"Of course!" Natsu and Gray exclaimed in unison, their excitement barely contained.
Though neither particularly liked the idea of teaming up with the other, an opportunity to work with Erza on a challenging mission was too good to pass up.
"Prepare yourselves. We leave tomorrow," Erza commanded before hefting the demon horn and exiting the guild hall.
As soon as she left, the guild buzzed with speculation about the mission's nature. Some guesses were so outrageous they involved mythical dragons.
"Lucy, George, I'd like to ask for your help with something," Mirajane called out to the pair, interrupting the chatter.
