Mastermind Behind The Scenes

Chapter 12: Chapter 12

"I saved you only because I thought Mr. Ethan wouldn't want you to die or be caught by the police." A flash of green light flickered in Gina's pupils as she spoke, opening her eyes to check the situation inside Alex's body.

"Hehe~" Alex smiled faintly and said nothing more. He didn't believe that Mr. Ethan would care if Gina said that. After their last meeting, he had a general sense of what kind of person Mr. Ethan was—or rather, what kind of existence he was. "He shouldn't be human. There's probably nothing in this world that would make him care, not even if I were caught by the police."

"Anyway, I won't give him up." Alex didn't know why he felt this way, but he was certain that no matter what punishment he endured, he would not reveal any information about the man, even if they threatened his wife and daughter. "This is probably the power of God!"

"Oh my God!" Gina's pupils trembled slightly as she observed the situation inside Alex's body, disbelief written across her face. Despite some blood, Alex's body showed no external injuries due to his strong recovery ability and rapid cell division. However, there were countless pieces of iron, gravel, and several bullets embedded in his muscles, especially a long sniper bullet lodged in his heart. Despite all this, he was still alive—what incredible vitality!

"Can you see what's going on in my body? Besides being invisible, do you also have the ability to see through?" Alex asked, noticing Gina's shocked expression.

Gina's expression gradually calmed, though she didn't nod or shake her head. She simply said with concern, "Are the things in your body—especially the bullet in your heart—okay if you don't take them out?" She looked at Alex's sweating forehead. It was impossible for it to be fine.

"Of course it's not fine. It hurts a lot. If it gets infected, I'll die, even with the cell regeneration ability of a lizard." Alex raised one hand and, using his one-inch-long sharp nails, cut open a part of his skin. Then he inserted his thumb and index fingers into the wound and carefully dug out a small stone. The expression on his face, with gritted teeth and veins bulging on his forehead, showed that this was excruciatingly painful.

Alex continued removing the bullets, iron pieces, and small stones from his body, but he dared not touch the sniper bullet lodged in his heart. That one had to be removed with anesthesia and modern surgical techniques. Even with his vitality and regeneration abilities, he would definitely die if he tried to remove it himself.

Seeing Alex trembling in pain and weak, lying on the haystack, Gina thought for a moment and said, "I'll help you remove the bullet."

"Are you a doctor?" Alex asked.

"No."

"Then how will you take it out?"

"I have my own way, and it's definitely less risky than tying up a doctor to perform surgery on you."

"Then go ahead."

"Do you trust me that much?"

"We're barely the same kind. In this world, besides my wife and daughter, there are probably only a few people I can trust. I trust you... maybe more than my wife and daughter. After all, I don't even dare to face them, hehe... And if you wanted me dead, you wouldn't bother saving me."

"What if I'm only saving you because I'm afraid you'll be caught by the police and give Mr. Ethan away, and I don't care whether you live or die?"

"Then I'm unlucky, and death would be a kind of relief for me."

Gina didn't say anything else, simply raised a hand. "I'll start now."

Alex took a deep breath, nodded, and immediately tensed his body.

"Relax a little. My method won't hurt, but if your muscles are too tense, it'll make things more difficult for me." Although Alex didn't know how Gina would remove the sniper bullet, he still tried to relax. It was difficult, but he did his best.

Gina understood that this would be hard, considering it was the heart. Even though Alex's muscles were still somewhat tense, Gina said nothing more. She stretched out her hand toward Alex's left chest. Then, before Alex's wide-open eyes, Gina's hand passed into his body without resistance, and Alex felt nothing unusual.

"You—"

"Don't talk," Gina interrupted. Her mind was fully focused. Before her hand reached the sniper bullet in Alex's heart, she needed to be in complete control. She had to gently touch the bullet's surface with her thumb and index finger, making it intangible. Then she could safely remove it. This required intense concentration. One slip and her hand could become stuck in Alex's heart, which would certainly kill him.

"Huh~" Gina let out a relieved breath when she finally held the long sniper bullet. She wiped the sweat from her forehead and tossed the bullet aside. "It's done."

Alex's eyes widened, his face full of disbelief. "What kind of ability is this… on earth?!"

"Alright, you should be fine now. I'll leave first; I have to hurry to buy vegetables and cook dinner." Gina didn't seem to like explaining her abilities in detail to others, even if they were somewhat of the same kind. She wasn't under Mr. Ethan's control, but that didn't mean they were allies. Besides, even if they were, Gina had no obligation to share her abilities. She stood up, turned, and left.

Alex didn't try to stop her or ask any more questions. The shock in his eyes slowly faded as he guessed Gina's abilities. He felt a growing envy, not just because Gina hadn't turned into a monster, but because of her powerful, almost invincible abilities. The only flaw was that Gina didn't have a body as strong as his own.

"I owe you a favor. I'll definitely repay you when I get the chance."

Gina raised her hand in acknowledgment without turning around. Her figure disappeared around the corner.

After exiting the sewer, Gina hurried to buy vegetables and returned to the tavern. A red Ferrari sports car was parked in front of the door. "What is this…" She quickened her pace, pushed open the tavern's wooden door, and peeked inside. Near the fireplace, a familiar figure was laughing and chatting with Ethan. The atmosphere between them was that of old friends who hadn't seen each other in years.

Seeing the familiar figure, Gina's expression suddenly became stiff. "Sister Chloe!"
