Chapter 160: War!
At the same time,
"General Fang... They have rejected our offer, it seems the sect master doesn't know what is good for him," A humble servant reported back to the general.
"Oh!? It seems ancestors were correct, crows really turn blind when they are about to die," General Fang uttered, but was it actually correct remains a mystery.
"Since they have rejected the emperor's degree... It seems they have chosen war," General Fang said while he clashed his fists menacingly.
He was waiting for this.
He was born for this very moment.
His eyes gleamed with menacing light as he stood in the grand hall, a strong bloody aura around his body.
Gulp!
His burly figure casts a long shadow over the messenger, as the messenger gulps hard.
General Fang had always believed that the path to true power lay in conquest, and now, Xian Tian's defiance was the spark he needed to ignite a long-desired conflict.
He believed in that saying, I came, I saw, I conquered.
Sadly he wasn't the emperors and just merely a general.
"Prepare the battalions," he barked to his subordinates.
"If the Flower blooms Sect thinks they can defy us, they will soon learn the folly of their arrogance... Even heavens can't save them anymore,"
The servants and soldiers scattered, fearfully obeying their general. They were like ants, already moving.
Fang was known not only for his ruthlessness on the battlefield but also for his cunning strategies.
He wouldn't underestimate the Flower Blooms Sect, especially not with Xian Tian at the helm.
Yet, he felt certain that, once weakened by relentless assault even the mightiest of mightiest would fall.
However, the reason he even thought of this was because of the minister, hmph! Maybe the minister was mentally ill.
No way, a bronze-level sect would be that powerful, they were only lucky and unlucky at the same time for obtaining that array.
'Yes! That must be it... The only one, who I should be way of is the Array master,' General Fang believed.
And what he believed is a up to him.
Back in the beautiful mountain, Xian Tian leaned against the tree branch, overlooking the courtyard where his disciple was training the Peirce the sky technique.
Then suddenly the sect jade in his waist began to glow.
"Sect Master... Huge trouble, the imperial army is in the mountains of our sect, the emperor wasn't lying when he said about the destruction of the array," the old voice came from the other side.
"Eh!?" Xian Tian wondered what the actual fuck was going on.
He didn't expect the emperor to send the entire army after the assassins were dead.
He still believes that assassins were sent by the emperor thus he expected the emperor to use his mind and attack after a careful consideration.
Then again, the imperial army was no problem.
"Great Elder... Don't act so afraid, just activate the bell formation defensive array, that I have created, and those rats from the empire won't be able to enter the sect," Xian Tian responded.
The bell formation defensive array is one of powerful defensive formations with a bell shape.
Not only does this formation have defensive property but it also reflects the attack back to the attacker.
"The bell formation defensive array!?" The great elder repeated as if he heard something magical.
"Hmmm! Hmm! I will activate it instantly, but I don't think it can handle for a long time," The Great Elder raised a valid point.
"Don't worry... They aren't capable enough the break the formation, it is enchanted by 23 Dragon runes, there is merely 1 or 2 Expert who can break this formation,"
Was it arrogance? Not really, Xian Tian was brutally honest.
There maybe be hardly anyone who could break this formation.
The bell formation array created from 45 Buddhist jade is already highly tough and not to mention, it is enchanted by 23 dragon runes. Explore stories at empire
"O-Ok!" Poor elder could only believe in Xian Tian's words at such dire situation.
---
Dum! Dum! Dum!
The rumble of drums echoed across the valley as General Fang's battalions assembled at the border of the Flower blooms Sect's territory.
The imperial army was vast, stretching as far as the eye could see, with banners of the emperor's insignia fluttering like ominous shadows under the rising sun at early afternoon.
Shits are going crazy.
The scent of iron filled the air, and the tension was thick, palpable even among seasoned soldiers.
General Fang stood at the front, his armor gleaming, his gaze cold and unyielding as he surveyed the enemy's domain.
"On my command!" he roared, his voice booming across the ranks.
"We march forward! Today, we remind the Flower Blooms Sect of their pathetic little place!"
The higher you jump, the harder you fall and this bitch was gonna learn this valuable lesson very soon.
With a resounding cheer, the imperial army surged forward, a tidal wave of steel and fury.
Drrr!
The ground trembled beneath the stampede of thousands of boots, the air reverberating with the clamor of weapons and battle cries.
General Fang rode at the vanguard, his steed black as night, eyes ablaze with the hunger for conquest.
His hand tightened on the hilt of his blade, the anticipation of bloodshed singing in his veins.
For him, The Flower Blooms Sect would pay dearly for their defiance.
Their arrogance would be crushed underfoot, their walls breached, their people brought to heel.
This was the natural order, the way of the strong.
As the army crested the hill overlooking the sect, the sight that greeted them was one of tranquil beauty - serene gardens, elegant pagodas, the gentle murmur of a brook winding through lush greenery.
An oasis of peace soon to be shattered by the storm of war.
General: "..."
Fang's lip curled in disdain. Such pretty facades meant nothing in the face of cold steel.
He would grind this sanctuary to dust, salt the earth so nothing would grow.
A shout rang out from the front line. "The defensive array! It's activated!"
Fang's eyes narrowed.
"So, the sect master thought to hide behind the magic... How unmanly,'
'Hmmm... A clever trick, but one that would not save them,'
"Archers!" he barked. "Bring down that array! Let nothing stand in our way.
Swoosh!
Swish!
Swoosh!
A volley of arrows arced into the sky, raining down upon the shimmering barrier.
It held fast, deflecting each missile back towards its source.
Fang growled in frustration.
All those magical flashy, fiery, icy, electric arrows but nothing?
Like NOTHING?
No matter what, He had come prepared.
From within the ranks, a contingent of mages stepped forward, hands glowing with eldritch energy.
They began to chant, weaving threads of power to unravel the array's defenses.
Fang watched, arms crossed, as the mages worked.
They were skilled, some of the best in the empire. If anyone could break the sect's magic, it was them.
And yet...
A strange thing began to happen.
The defensive array, which moments before had seemed impregnable, began to waver.
Cracks spread along its surface, growing wider with each passing second.
Fang's eyes widened in surprise.
Such a powerful array, brought low by mere mages?
It seemed the sect master's confidence had been misplaced.
With a final, resonant crack, the array shattered, collapsing in on itself in a shower of glowing shards.
Hehehahahaha!
General laughed like a menace but he wasn't the last person to laugh.
Pfft!
Pfft!
All the mages Instantly fell to the ground and died.
Among those 23 enchantments, one of the enchantment was auto repair.
General Fang's face sank while one by one even the archers began to fall.
---
His laughter ceased as quickly as it had started, his smug expression fading into one of bewildered rage.
He hadn't anticipated this; a defense that struck back with such force, causing his elite mages and archers to collapse before they could even celebrate their supposed victory.
Nah! He refused to believe it.
It must be cowardly demonic technique.
It was a dirty fighting.
"What... What trickery is this?" he spat, eyes darting between his fallen soldiers and the still-glowing remnants of the array.
Each second that passed only fueled his frustration, and the bloody aura around him seemed to intensify, sending a chill down the spine of even his bravest officers.
"My General," stammered one of the captains, "the array... it seems it's enchanted with a... a curse! One that retaliates against any direct assault!"
Fang glowered at the captain, his fists tightening until his knuckles turned white.
He had heard tales of cursed formations, but he had dismissed them as mere myths or exaggerations.
He wasn't about to admit defeat, not here, not now.
A formation that throws all the damage to attacker.
"Enough of your excuses!" he snarled.
"If that array strikes back, then find another way to dismantle it. We have the numbers, we have the resources! I will not be humiliated by some cowards hiding behind their walls!"
The captains exchanged uneasy glances, clearly apprehensive about pushing forward after witnessing the array's deadly reprisal.
But General Fang's glare left no room for argument.
