Minecrafting in the world of Terraria as the Beheaded (Rewrite)

Chapter 3: Awakening on an island

An island in the middle of the sea.

This island had one much smaller island besides it, an ancient castle standing on its mountain only matched by the golden palace built on the mountain of the much bigger island.

On each of these islands, vast swaths of forest extended from the centre as structures of all types pointed at the sky with their roofs, unique buildings peaking out of the ground, overcome with plant growth.

On the larger island.

A tall Lighthouse stood at the edges of a cliff, the light in its tower snuffed long ago as a Clocktower standing in the middle of a dilapidated town bordering a series of floating fragments of islands, tolling as the two hands struck eleven.

Thunder crackling in the air, the black clouds gathered above the smaller island, a nest, an abandoned city and a black bridge being the only things connecting the island to the much bigger one.

Rain fell onto the forest expanding from the large square like structure built into the earth, the mushrooms unfurling their caps as the black clouds swirled above this black structure.

What made this structure so important one would ask, as it stood in the middle of the impending storm that seemed ready to swallow the island whole with the waves.

The clock tolled twelve.

Thunder crackling in the sky, lightning flashed.

Striking at the box like structure, the thunderous yellow arc slipped into the metal bars of a particular window, striking the body that laid within.

And with it, a man awoke.

That man was I.

"Ugh..."

Clutching my head, a painful headache clutched at my mind as I rubbed my head.

And accompanying this killer headache that seemed to have split my head into two, my neck felt incredibly parched for water.

Opening my pained eyes, sunlight leaked into my eyes, piercing their lids as calm winds blew through the open window.

The glare of the window preventing me from completely seeing my situation, I covered my eyes and recalled the moments before... whatever Fun had just done to me.

[He sent you to a particular world without thinking about the consequences as usual.]

A deep baritone voice.

"Death?"

[In the bone.]

"...Yeah, you're definitely death."

Knowing that there wasn't anyone dad enough to make dad jokes while masquerading as death, a skull popped in front of me wearing a pair of glasses.

[Flattering.]

Opening and closing their jaws, they looked around before speaking lightly. [I'll be honest Mr. Slade, your situation isn't the greatest.]

"What do you mean?" Finally deigning to open my eyes to stare at the skull floating in the air, I looked around and paused when I saw metal cages hanging in the air, bones galore within.

Moving past the stone walls, I looked upwards, a fearful premonition beating against my chest as my heart feared the next thing I should see.

And seeing the thing that set all of it straight into my heart, I couldn't help but laugh.

"God damnit."

[Curse Fun, not I.]

"Fun damnit."

[Much Better.]

Staring at the gigantic skeleton resting behind me missing more than a few teeth, the titan of a skeleton was stabbed in the chest with a spear that was of perfect size for the being I turned my head to the side in hopes of seeing something that would dissuade all of my fears.

But in doing so, all of my fears were instead set in stone.

Laughing softly to myself, I lay against the cold stone ground all of my energy leaving my body.

Why you may ask?

Well that would be because of the log with a large axe embedded into it smeared in congealed blood.

I was in Dead Cells, and more specifically I was in the starting room where the beheaded began it all.

"Fun damnit."

Cursing loudly, I chuckled depreciatingly.

If one didn't know the story behind this island then one would be asking why was I so withdrawn when I was currently inside a video game.

That had to do with what type of fucking video game it was.

To put things simply, Dead Cells was a roguelite , metroidvania inspired, action-platformer

In other words, stupid difficult.

Groaning into the crook of my elbows, I stared at the skull genially floating in the air.

"...At the least tell me I can escape before time loops once again."

[You do have a chance of escaping]

"Yes!"

[The problem is that you have to fight against basically everyone guarding the Boss cells in hopes of sealing the malaise that currently effects everything on the island.]

"No!"

[All is not lost however as you have all the perks bestowed upon you by Fun.]

"Damn him!"

[I agree.]

Nodding their head despite not even having a neck to do so in the first place, the skull like incarnation of death stared at me.

[Now then, I trust you have knowledge on the various systems belonging to... Dead Cells, Terraria and Minecraft?]

Pausing for a moment, memories related to all of these games came to mind if not most of the techs that they had, then most definitely all of the more memorable portions of it all.

And seeing the relative confidence emanating from me, the skull nodded [Good, because I don't]

Pausing, I stared at a literal God who chuckled.

[Just because I'm the God of Death doesn't mean I have a lot of time to play video games, I much prefer games that involve actual death than metaphysical.]

'...That honestly makes sense.'

[Do not worry your little skull however, just because I don't know how your specific powers work doesn't mean I don't know how to operate them, open your hands.]

Obeying the literal god of Death.

[Just call me Death.]

I opened both of my hands.

[Make them face upwards.]

Following further, a pair of pale grey screens appeared atop both hands.

Eyes widening as nostalgia came running with the drop kick of a lifetime, I instinctively moved my hands to touch the screens only to see them disappear instantly.

[It's because you're not focusing it into existence.]

"What?"

Turning to look at the skull, he let out what could be called a sigh and gestured to my hands.

[Until you can learn to focus the personal space into existence, you'll be stuck having to flip your hand everytime you want to access it.]

"Ah." Blinking, the brief memory of the inventory screens lingered in front of me before appearing like magic, but unlike previously, these ones were a tad more blurred than before.

Another thing to note was that although I was considerably blurred out, I still looked the same on the Inventory screen that belonged to the game known as Minecraft.

Black hair, tanned skin, extremely handsome and tall.

Well I would like to say I was extremely handsome but I knew that I was just not my own type.

Maybe I was handsome and maybe I was ugly, it was extremely subjective.

[If it makes yourself feel better, you are one of the better looking mortal souls I've seen.]

"When averaged out in the millions I definitely am not."

[When you put it that way, then yet, nothing can compare to the beauty of my wife Life.]

"...Well anyways"

Loosing my concentration, the two screens blinked out of existence, only called back to the forefront when I faced my left palm upwards and looked at myself through the screens of a minecraftian.

Observing my miniature self that was mirroring my every move I chuckled lightly before noticing two things.

A miniature copy of my head equipped in the helmet slot and one black slot separate from the larger grey panel.

"..." But ignoring the fact that there was an additional slot besides the Minecraftian Inventory which I confirmed was also underneath the Terrarian one, I stared at the head located in the helmet slot and prayed to all that was holy.

[Thank you for considering me as holy.]

Ignoring Death, I moved my hand to the helmet slot and... unequipped it.

'Oh Fun Damnit...'

[I am sorry Slade, I can't help you here.]

Groaning loudly, I attempted to hold my head and groan into the crooks of my palms if not for one. Big. Problem.

I literally had no head

So instead of putting my hands on my head and groaning into it, instead, my hands literally went through my head and all I got was a burn for my efforts.

"Ack!"

It didn't make it easier that the moment I did I accidentally accessed a new menu.

[A cosmetic menu hm?]

Staring at the screen that basically meant I could change my head to whatever I liked, I felt suddenly at peace as the last piece holding me together snapped.

'Why am I even struggling at this point, I should just make do with the fact that I now have more than one head on my shoulder.'

[At some points you could say you're headless]

Even the poor puns of the old father death doesn't shake me anymore.

[Oh... Well that isn't not good]

Scratch that.

"What the fuck do you mean."

Looking at the metal window I grabbed the floating skull and screamed into it. "What the fuck do you mean!?"

[It just means that unless you escape this island you'll die.]

"..." Blinking, I stared at Death as if they were stupid.

"At this point, I don't care, I don't mind being revived, but definitely not in this hellhole, I may have enjoyed the games but that doesn't mean I wanted to personally experience the many deaths that the beheaded goes through."

[it isn't that simple.]

"Oh yeah? Hit me."

[If you say so.]

Being knocked flat on the ground due to the fact that the skull had hit me at mach 3 speeds, I saw stars manifest above me.

Wait, not the stars one sees when the brain suddenly receives less oxygen, actual fiery stars burning in the vast cosmos of space.

Admiring the several stars, my vision suddenly shifted before being brought to a certain solar system with a certain planet located on the third ring closest to the sun.

This planet was covered in blue and green with white clouds as it peacefully hung in the cosmos of space, spinning gently as it did so causing me to catch my non existent breath.

But just as it finished an entire cycle on its axis, the planet itself seemed to stutter for a moment before continuing to spin.

Then everything began to speed up.

The sun continued to burn, the many other planets in the solar system continued to orbit the sun, but just the third planet continued to stay in place.

Stuttering every single day, returning to the place it previously was on the orbital belt.

Every day.

Every time.

It spun

And stuttered.

It Returned

And Stuttered.

And stuttered

And stuttered

And stuttered

And stuttered.

It continued to stutter on and on, without an end in sight.

And eventually...

It shattered into something that I was incredibly familiar with.

How did I know what it was?

Well, I was previously in it.

Watching in horror as time itself broke all over the place, the planet instantly suffered the results of continuous stutters, turning into constantly colliding geometric shapes that in the end.

Just popped.

As if it never existed in the first place.

But as someone who understood what it was to have a disturbed soul going before it's time, I knew for a fact.

The inhabitants of the third planet suffered.

Staring at the empty spot in space where the planet initially was, the moon which served as the only reminder that it even existed flew off into the sun, burnt into a crips and fueling the ever hungry burning gas giant.

And as abruptly as it had appeared before me, it all disappeared and was replaced with the visage of a floating skull with glasses staring at me while framed by the various skeletons who seemed to be grinning at the newbie.

"What. Was. That." Demanding the skull of Death, he calmly replied all the while I grasped the grinning skull.

[That my beheaded friend, is the future if you don't act to fix it.]

"..."

"I hate Fun."

[The feeling is mutual.]
