Chapter 25 Battle Classroom
```
As Hexia immersed herself in learning various subjects at school, she suddenly realized how quickly time had passed; it was already mid-October.
After getting up, the air felt a bit chilly, so she searched for and put on a pair of thick socks before changing into the Yuanting Academy's student uniform, which featured a light coffee color with white as the primary scheme, simple yet soft in its color combination.
Once dressed and having finished washing up, Hexia went out to the balcony, where she could hear a chorus of chirping. In a spacious cage, three yellow ducklings were quacking joyfully, circled by an indigo snake watching over the little ones in its midst.
"Morning~" Hexia greeted, then started changing the paper lining in the cage and laid out fresh ones, adding water and food into the little bowls.
The three ducklings, hatched almost two weeks ago, would soon be ready for the water, her teacher had said, but for now, they'd be kept on the balcony.
After completing these tasks, Hexia stroked the three adorable and fluffy ducklings which gently pecked at her hand, recognizing the young woman.
She then gave some instructions to the indigo snake before heading out the door.
After leaving the dormitory, the young girl jumped down from the floor's flight platform, descending lightly. Midway, she saw Mel waiting for her and waved before continuing her descent.
Soon, she landed softly on the ground, then watched as Mel also jumped down and caught him with ease; the two then walked out of the tall tower together.
On the hillside path, one could occasionally see older students leading red-footed falcons flying directly to their respective classrooms and destinations, while some first-year students expressed their envy.
However, it would be a while before they could manage to handle these falcons themselves, probably not until their second year.
First-years could only walk by themselves or rent some of the more docile rideable animals, like big mountain pigs, for instance.
After arriving at today's class location with Mel, Hexia noticed that many classmates were already there.
"Hexia's here too." A girl with slightly curled blond hair waved at her. This girl, who looked like an older sister, was actually the class president, Agnes; she was 17 years old, a year older than many of her classmates.
Today, they were going to have a battle class. However, they wouldn't be fighting themselves. Instead, they would command transcendent animals drawn by lot to fight, which was also a training for their ability to adapt on the spot and to coordinate quickly.
"Is everyone here?" Standing on a tree stump among the trees, the teacher suddenly stood up from a crouching position, startling many students, then began to take attendance and explain the day's lesson.
"In other words, each person will draw lots three times, essentially making good use of three companions to battle against the opponent until all three of the opponent's companions are defeated."
"Just a reminder, each companion has different strengths in terms of skills and abilities. They have their advantages and disadvantages against various enemies. How you choose your tactics and how you conserve your energy for subsequent battles will depend on your decisions."
"The final eight in this class will receive a bag of T4-grade food, which you can give to your beloved pet to enjoy, and the first-place student will be rewarded with a T3-grade food by the school."
"That's all I've got to say, let's start drawing lots now." After speaking, he waved his hand, and hundreds of bamboo sticks flew up behind him, then all fell into a metal cylinder in front of him. He then covered the top, leaving only a small hole for the students to shake out their lots one by one.
"Agnes, Primordial Sequence 3·White Stone Monkey."
"Doge, Dragon Sequence 3·Spiny Crocodile."
...
The students each drew various companions, some greeted with cheers, while others were met with a tinge of sadness.
"Doge drew the Dragon Sequence's Spiny Crocodile, I'm so envious."
Among the different sequences, the Dragon Sequence may be challenging to advance, but it's often more powerful within the same sequence level, inducing envy among many students.
```
"Linke, Slashing Blade Sequence 3·Rustling Bird."
"Mel, Tidal Sequence 3·Spiral Shell Turtle."
...
"Hexia, Radiant Feather Sequence 3·Light Cotton Bird."
After each student had drawn their first companion in turn, it was time for the second, then the third, with a class total of 31 people, resulting in 93 different Sequence 3 transcendent animals being drawn. This certainly showcased the Yuanting Academy's advantage in fostering; in other schools under the Jade Skirt, it might be impossible to gather such a diverse range of transcendent animals.
"Why did it have to be a big black turtle..." Mel squatted down, looking at the Spiral Shell Turtle she had drawn. This terrestrial turtle seemed to weigh more than 100 pounds and was not small.
"It's okay, Mel, don't you have other companions?" Hexia comforted her with a few words, then looked at the other two companions beside Mel. One, a Blood Pupil Sequence 3·Cold Blooded Swallow, perched on a nearby tree branch, and the other was a Slashing Blade Sequence 3·Sword Thistle Dog, circling around Mel.
As for Hexia, aside from her first Light Cotton Bird, the remaining two were a Tidal Sequence 3·Wind Sea Snail and a Primordial Sequence 3·Electric Wool Sheep.
The students at the scene were getting to know their newly-acquainted companions, and some were using personal terminals to quickly search the Academy's library for the skills and abilities of their three great generals, then beginning to contemplate tactics.
Half an hour later, the teacher began to announce.
"Alright, familiarization time is over. Now, following the order of the chart I just created through the draw, let's begin the battles!"
"Don't worry if you lose; there's still a chance in the second Resurrection match. Today, make sure to fully utilize each of your potentials. Use this opportunity well, even if you're not the one fighting, you can learn from how others achieve victory, drawing lessons from their experience. I believe that in a few years, each of you will become a master in training and nurturing~"
"Now, the first round begins, Doge versus Kim Kelly."
As the words were spoken, two excited students stepped into the clearing within the woods, each summoning their three companions to start the first round of battle.
First to enter was Doge's drawn Spiked Tail Crocodile, a growing crocodile weighing around 100 pounds, covered in green-brown scale armor, with dangerous-looking barbed spines on its long tail.
On the other side, a short-haired girl with burgundy hair made her entrance with a large bird decked in deep red feathers, its appearance fierce and its call shrill.
"This doesn't look good, I didn't expect that girl was so prepared. The first to enter is the flight-capable Blood Feather Bird, which puts the Spiked Tail Crocodile at a huge disadvantage since it can't fly."
"However, the Spiked Tail Crocodile's scale armor is very thick, so that Blood Feather Bird might not be able to handle it."
"Let's see how Kim Kelly figures it out." While the classmates whispered amongst themselves, Hexia held her Light Cotton Bird, stroking it while watching the battle unfold in the woods.
The moment the battle started, the Blood Feather Bird took to the air and a few dark-red radiant feathers swooped down, scratching the back of the Spiked Tail Crocodile, leaving some fissures. But such pain was not enough to defeat the Spiked Tail Crocodile; it shook its head and continued to lie low on the ground, patiently waiting for an opportunity.
The Blood Feather Bird made several probing attempts but failed to cause effective damage. After all, this Dragon Sequence 3 Spiked Tail Crocodile was indeed a bit stronger than other animals of its batch.
Kim Kelly commanded with patience, constantly ordering the Blood Feather Bird to harass and probe.
Finally, the Blood Feather Bird carefully circled around, attempting to attack the Spiked Tail Crocodile's blind spot from the rear and flip it over, then target the weaker defense of its underbelly.
But such an attack was ineffective. The Spiked Tail Crocodile reacted and swung its tail at the approaching foe, sending the Blood Feather Bird flying into a tree trunk.
Stunned and losing power from the impact, the Blood Feather Bird hadn't the chance to take to the air again before the Spiked Tail Crocodile bit down on it. This first match ended with the victory of the Spiked Tail Crocodile.
