Chapter 26 Protection Secret Technique_2
"This is the first time Agnes has let the Fire Phantasm Mouse enter the fray, huh? It hasn't appeared in the previous two battles. It seems quite formidable."
"Yes, if one faces an animal that's strong in attack but weak in defense, they can only gamble, betting on picking the right Fire Phantasm Mouse. Otherwise, one mistake and being ganged up on will most likely lead to defeat." Experience new tales on empire
"The second of the top eight has appeared. I wonder who will be next."
As everyone was discussing, Hexia heard the teacher call her name; it was her turn to enter the arena.
"Good luck, Hexia," Mel cheered, holding her cat in her arms to encourage the young girl.
"No problem," the girl smiled and then entered the stage.
To be honest, she wasn't confident about winning. After all, as a mere commander, there were too many uncontrollable factors. However, in such a competition, winning or losing didn't matter that much; enjoying the fun was more important. The students also discussed their tactics and the characteristics of the various Transcendent animals, without directly linking the students' abilities to their competition results.
Happiness is also a very important thing.
"First round, Hexia's Electro Fluff Sheep against Besimor's Redback Canine."
Having said this, a girl wearing a light blue dress, with a fierce-looking large dog, stepped forward. The Redback Canine had glossy black fur and several stripes on its back, a breed that had been improved from a traditional herding dog and one of the working dog breeds. Many large ranches would breed them.
"This is a disadvantageous match-up. The Electro Fluff Sheep doesn't stand much of a chance against a Redback Canine."
"The Redback Canine has thick skin and flesh, and as a large working dog, it has a natural intimidating effect on cattle and sheep, which is indeed a big advantage."
Nevertheless, both parties in the arena didn't hesitate too much and began the battle directly.
"Charge, attack," Besimor issued a straightforward command from the start.
"Awooo—" Filled with affection for its comrades and fervor, the large dog howled and charged forward, its fur shimmering in the wind with extra gloss.
Faced with such an attack, Hexia wasn't surprised.
"Lower your head, start charging up."
"Baa baa~" The Electro Fluff Sheep on the field started to panic, wanting to run and avoid the Redback Canine, but under Hexia's calming voice, it settled down, lowered its head, put its horns forward, and began scraping its hooves on the side of the dirt, with sparks of electricity starting to flicker among its fluffy fur.
In just a few seconds, the Redback Canine had rushed up to the Electro Fluff Sheep. It didn't try any feints, but directly lunged at it. In response, the Electro Fluff Sheep lifted its head sharply, lifting the opponent, but the Redback Canine wasn't thrown off. Instead, it used its weight and tearing motion to grab the sheep's horns and kept climbing up, biting into the sheep's neck.
Unfortunately, the thick fur of the Electro Fluff Sheep wasn't easy for the Redback Canine to penetrate, and then a surge of sparks started, the electric shock causing the Redback Canine to tremble.
Everyone thought the battle would end there, but to their surprise, the Redback Canine still didn't fall. It stubbornly clung to the Electro Fluff Sheep's back, biting fiercely. Seeing its opponent so ferocious, the Electro Fluff Sheep began to panic, trying to throw it off and run away, and the force of its electric shocks weakened a lot. After struggling for a while, with fur flying about, the Redback Canine finally got a grip on the Electro Fluff Sheep's neck, and at that moment the teacher judged the Redback Canine as the winner.
"Well, the result is acceptable, I guess. It's a Redback Canine used for herding after all; it's famous for its thick skin and meat. You'd hardly hurt them even if you hit them with a stone." Unlike other Transcendent animals that manifest some special abilities, the Redback Canine exhibits a relatively plain defensive ability. They are very tough and sturdy. While this might not make them seem impressive, their survival rate greatly increases in the wild.
"I lost," said Hexia calmly. After the Electro Fluff Sheep returned, she still comforted it for a while, sprayed some medicine on it, fed it an orange, patted it, and then set it aside.
"Second round, begin."
This time, the opponent brought out a golden Ocelot, its body fur glittering like gold, very luxurious, and its eyes as dazzling as gems.
"Wow, it's actually a golden Ocelot; that's considered quite an expensive pet. I didn't expect the Academy to let us command it in battle," said the students.
"It's probably bred by the Academy itself, maybe they want to give it some training, increase its guts?" the students speculated.
No matter what the Academy's intentions were, the second battle began. Hexia sent out the Wind Conch, a creature wider than the girl's shoulders. Stationed amidst the grass, the white conch shimmered in the sunshine, showcasing delicate patterns, very pleasing to the eye. Had it been in water, it would have an advantage, but here it was on grass, and some abilities weren't so convenient to use.
"Go, golden Ocelot." Just like before, Besimor let the golden Ocelot act on its own, without too much interference, believing it was better to allow the animals to perform fully rather than command them clumsily.
The golden Ocelot trembled its fur slightly in the sunshine, then like spikes, its fur stood up one by one. These spikes resembled the back quills of a porcupine—if other animals tried to get close for an attack, they would suffer greatly.
However, Hexia's choice of the Wind Conch also wouldn't employ that kind of close-combat attack method, so it wasn't concerned.
The sound of the wind started murmuring through the woods, and a glow flowed over the back shell of the Wind Conch, controlling the wind as it circulated, shaking the leaves in the trees and making a rustling noise.
